Should I upgrade to XP when I get my new HDD? I'm fairly
happy with ME but XP is much more colorful... but is it
better? I hear that there are more virus' and attacks
made against XP, is this true? If so, should I be worried
about it?

Thanks for any help

By the end of Dec 2004 WinME will be a DEAD product thus bring a close to the Win9x/ME
family.

Go with Win2K or WinXP.

This depends on your hardware compatibility and how comfortable you are
around NT based operating systems. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Is WinXP
better? yes, it's light years ahead but the hardware recommended is not the
same as WinME.

Not really, i virus writter will always target a current OS in order to
infect by volume. In the case of WinXP, using the OS with an account other
than the local administrator will both prevent the virus infection issue in
most cases and present a whole new way to operate the OS.

The admin account is any account in WinME, not so with XP. This may be an
environment in which you might not be comfortable with. Then there is XP Pro
and XP Home difference to consider.

Bottom line is try it before using it, research the differences. Basing that
decision on a bunch of colours won't make you more productive. If you do
decide to change, don't upgrade, backup + perform a clean install.

Thanks Salty (and others). So let me get this straight...
I can run XP in 2 ways... as an Admin, where my system is
safe from virus' and such as long as I'm using it as an
end user as well. If my system became infected I could
log on as an Admin and use my safe environment to
uninstall the virus...? I like the sounds of that.
Thanks

Running the system as admin is dangerous. Since the admin is the interactive
login, any application that runs with the interactive logon's elevated
privileges places the system in danger. You missunderstood what i was trying
to say.

Operate system as an ordinary user, use "run as..." to execute only the
specified application with the alternative admin credentials.
