    - no dial tone I just signed up w/a new ISP. I've tried to connect and I keep getting no dial tone. Is it my modem or ISP. Tag: url Tag: 217500

    - Automatically attempting to dial connection Somewhat recently, I keep getting prompted to connect to the internet. This usually happens when I use Windows explorer and click on a folder. Each time I click on another folder, I am prompted. It also happens when I go into the Control Panel. It appears as though when a new window is opened, it attempts to connect. I have installed spy-bot, Ad-Aware and a firewall. The only think that the firewall seems to be picking up that is trying to connect is LOADQM.EXE and QMGR.DLL (I'm assuming part of Windows Update). Windows update in the control panel is set to manually check. I do not like having control over whatever this is and am quite concerned with what it is trying to do, even if it is the update process. Any suggestions as to what it is and/or how I can disable it or find out what it is would be greatly appreciated. -Paul Tag: url Tag: 217495

    - windows98 to ME I created a zip disk on a windows 98 machine and now I'm trying to read it on a ME machine which won't work.     - Any way I can download WinME updates separately? I have recently upgraded a Win98 computer to WinME. That machine does not have an Internet connection and I really don't expect to use it that way. Mostly it will just be used for games, graphics editing, digital printing etc. Therefore I do not need the latest virus definitions or security patches. But I would like to get all the WinME updates that pertain to performance and stability. This should be just a one-time thing, as I don't imagine Microsoft is continuing to produce new performance updates for this ageing OS. My question is, Is there any way I can download any such existing ME updates via the WinXP computer I do use for the Internet (which has a DSL connection so should make short work of it)?     - rundll32 error at startup When I start up my computer, I get an error that says " Rundll32 has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Rundll32 will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer. " My mouse doesn't work now, it doesn't show up on the screen at all.     - downloaded critical patch . . I downloaded Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack and at 76% of install, it crashes. Evertime I reboot and try again, same thing.     - event /activity logs I am running Windows Millenium on a single desktop PC and I want to determine when my applications have been used. Is there and way to determine when a paticuliar application on my PC has been used (date)? For example, MS Word was last used on 10/31/03 0r Excel on 10/29/03.     - Infected Files in C:\_restore\archive Recently scanned my computer and found two worms, Worm Hybrid.B and Hawawi.F which have infected 15 files within C:\_restore\archive .The files are in a compressed winzip file, FS102.CAB FS157.CAB and more.     - problems When I start up the computer, an Enter Network Password window always comes up that asks for a user name and password. Does anyone know how to stop this window from coming up every time I start up the computer? Also, after I click OK on the Enter Network Password window, another window comes up that is titled System Configuration Utility and says "You are using the selective startup for troubleshooting your system" and I have to click OK.     - Microsoft Word I have Microsoft ME, and word 2000 SR1. Every time I try to start word, it freezes on me. This started last week. I have plenty of memory, I have also cleaned out the system, I have removed and reinstalled word. I can use any other software without any problem.     - Cmdinst has caused an error in USER.EXE Hi, I am trying to install an ADSL 500 modem from BINATONE (USB 1.1). I get through part of the installation with the install program and I am prompted: "the DSL installer is searching for installed hardware. If your modem is not yet plugged into your computer, plug it in now" I plug the modem in and then get the following error message: "Cmdinst Cmdinst has caused an error in USER.EXE. Cmdinst will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try to restart your computer." The only option after that is to press OK. I then get the message: "The DSL Modem Setup Wizard is now installing the drivers needed by Windows to operate the modem" The computer then continues to install the drivers. This goes on for about 3-4 minutes, which seems excessively long... I then get: "Error There is a problem installing the drivers for your modem. The operating system could not install the driver properly. Please call technical support for assistance" Only option is to press finish. The files are then uninstalled before I am prompted to restart my PC. I also try to plug the modem in before installing any drivers...I then get the same error message. I am running Windows ME. I have no previous ADSL modems or drivers installed. I have tried to install the modem 3 times now and always get the same errors. I have also contacted Binatone who sent me updated drivers. No luck!     - Please help!!! It appears as though there may have been some important files deleted from my computer recently. I am having many problems running updates, set-ups and downloading new features. I am so bad with computers that I really have no idea what is going on. I just tried installing the new browser for internet 6 and it would not complete...it didn't say why, it just told me to try again (which I did) and then I was offered the option to contact you. Please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong section, as I said, I'm not the best with computers. So yes, I tried downloading this: 'Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1' but it wouldn't complete. I also tried running a live update for Norton today and it says that file OLEPRO32.DLL could not be found. This is not the only one...there have been so many errors and download failures lately.
