    - wuaboot error I am getting an error saying "wuaboot caused am unknown error". I am using Windows ME I believe this has something to do with the automatic update feature but do not know for sure and anything I have tried thus far has failed to fix the error message.     - Soundblaster on same IRQ as modem-problems I bought a new modem and soundblaster PCI. When I loaded them, the computer put both of them on the same IRQ.     - .vbs script file problem I have a bunch of .vbs script files from Billsway and Doug Knox which I use on occasion and I have just discovered that almost all of them don't work anymore. When I try to run one now I get one of two error messages: Script: C:\Windows\Desktop\Shutdown Timer.vbs Line: 7 Char: 1 Error: ActiveX component cannot create object "WScriptShell" Code: 800A01AD Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error or Script: C:\Windows\Desktop\DUN MENU.VBS Line: 13 Char: 10 Error: Could not create object named "WScript.Shell" Code: 80040154 Source: WScript CreateObject The one file I have used most often (random password generator from Billsway) works fine, but the others do not. I have downloaded fresh copies and the results are the same. Updated NAV and Ad-aware scans show nothing. All the other programs on my computer are running fine, including those which require Visual Basic Runtime files. No other apparent problems. I occasionally write little .vbs scripts for reminders and these work fine as well. I have done some searching in the KB and haven't really found anything that pertains specifically to my problem and what I have found is pretty much beyond me. I have discovered that the error "80040154" apparently refers to "class not registered" and I have found that a newer version of WindowsScriptingHost 5.6 (published 06/09/03) is available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0A8A18F6-249C-4A72- BFCF-FC6AF26DC390&displaylang=en I was thinking of reinstalling the version of WindowsScriptingHost 5.6 that I have installed now (downloaded and installed 08/02) or installing the newer version. Before I tried anything though, I thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions or comments as I don't really have a clue. Thanks.     - Windows ME Display and locked options I have an ME system, that looks like when it starts up it is in safe mode but it isn't. I don't have access r/click desktop properties, and when in control panel can't access Monitor or Video or system/device manager.     - DISABLE LOGON PROMPT At the begiining of a windows session I am prompted for a password. I don't enter one and simply hit cancel when I encounter this dialogue box.     - password protection winME I would like to password protect my Dell computer running windows ME edition. During windows startup the password window opens & can be bypassed by clicking "cancel". Once "cancel is clicked, windows starts up as normal. I would like to restrict access totally by using just one password. Can anyone tell me if this can be done?     - Shutting down PC After using the computer for about an hour, all programs are closed and I click on the shutdown button the screen goes dark (not completely black) as though it is ready to shutdown. After a few seconds it does go black and shortly thereafter it starts to reboot. The only way I can shut down is to hit the off button as it is ready to start the reboot. I studied all your suggestions, then downloaded and installed StartMan, then used it to check each one of my Startup entries. I disabled at least a dozen of them.     - Win ME with IE 6 and IE SP1, Freezes System Need help, Windows ME with Internet Explorer 6 with IE SP1 Freezes System. I am using IE6 SP1 and Windows ME on a Toshiba Satellite notebook. I have been to the Microsoft, Toshiba, and Norton Antivirus update sites and have all the latest updates. It only happens when I am on the internet with IE6 and scrolling around the page or clicking a link , and all of a sudden the system freezes. Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work and I have to force a power shut down. The problem seems to be getting worse. It is freezing at least five time a day now.     - Won't Defrag What might the problem be if my computer will not defrag anymore. Will go up to 2% and start over. I have let it go all day and that is the best it will do. I have Norton virus protector here so I would assume it isn't a virus. Always worked before with the present setup. This problem just recently happened.     - startup problems I have been having no end of troubles starting up my system. I have windows ME installed and have had no problems for 2 years. All of a sudden, I can't boot into normal mode. When I boot into Safe mode, I don't get prompted for the Safe Mode Troubleshooter. I've made a boot disk, but can't seem to boot up from it. Can anyone tell me if there is a different way to boot up from a boot disk. I've just been leaving it in the A drive, but it doesn't seem to get picked up at startup. Also, Scandisk doesn't ever complete.     - ZoneAlarm problem I know this is not a strictly ME problem but here goes. ZoneAlarm refuses to remember the programs which I have allowed my computer access on the internet. Every time I want to go to (say) Outlook Express it asks me for permission. After a reboot it again asks me for permission for the same program.     - dll file When I occasionally restart my comp I get the error message about a missing dll (xmlparse.dll). When I researched it on google it sounded like it had something to do with aol instant messenger which I recently removed. I'm having no problems that I know of just the box showing up. The article suggested clearing the System Conf Utility box of checkmarks that are associated with AIM. Nothing was there connected to AIM that I could see. I have files copied to a CD-RW. I have changed data on
this info and copied over on the CD many times before.
Suddenly I am getting a dialog box that tells me the disc
is "write-protected" and the data won't copy until I
remove it. What does this mean and how can I fix it?
