If the 32-bit version comes pre-installed in my laptop, am I entitled to a

64-bit version. I understand that it is not recomended to switch to the
64-bit version, but I am wondering if I would be entitled to the other
version. On the Microsoft website, it states that the 64-bit version is
availale is Vista was purchased as a "retail, packaged product." Does that

Vista XP Dual Boot
Hi
I am submitting the question for a friend who has purchased a HP Pavillion
9200 laptop. ($4,500 AU)
He has been trying to set up a dual boot for Vista and XP without any
success. He has been infromed by HP technical support that this computer will
not allow a dual boot of these systems. In fact, it will not even allow
installation of XP. As I have never heard of this I was just wondering is
this the case?, can some new computers only run Vista?
If this is not the case is there anyone that may know where I can get info
on setting a dual boot up for this laptop?
Thanks

Complaints
People complain in here why there are so many unrelated posts and noise...
Its because of my momma and papa Frank and momma Spanky de Monkey...
Don't feel bad about the fact that they have ruined the vista newsgroup...
they just want to be hated. Its some mental condition they have...
you know, they want attention and any kind of attention is better than no
attention at all,
and because they cant say anything smart or interesting or even funny,
they keep busting everyone's balls in an effort to make everyone mad.
But let me tell you a secret, Papa Frank has no balls, and Momma Spanky does

taskbar and desktop icons disappearing!
For some reason, when I log onto my account on my computer, my taskbar and
desktop icons disappear. I have restarted and shut down the computer multiple
times, but each time I log on, my taskbar, which is at the bottom, and my
desktop icons, which are on the top, will appear for not even a minute and
then vanish and all that I am left to see is my wallpaper. When I click
around on the wallpaper, nothing pops up and when I press keys on the
keyboard, nothing comes up either. The only way I am able to get onto the
internet is by pressing CTRL+ALT+delete to get to the task manager and type
in "new task" the website I want to go to. The only thing that I can think of
that might have had something to do with this was when I had to spy sweep my
computer. After it had finished sweeping, the taskbar started to "refresh"
itself by disappearing for a moment, then reappearing. Now, the task bar just
disappears all together along with the desktop icons. I am really confused
and I am not very good with this stuff, so if anyone can help at all, it is
really appreciated. Thank you. Tag: Is this adam albright or his wife? Tag: 399486
system error memory dump files
hi
this is my first computer, have learned a bit
from day 1, I had dumpfiles in my machine
because I did not start it up right and
I had done System Recovery by the place I purchesed it
the dump files are still in here, after 10 month I finaly found them
this is a:
Factory Installed
Refurbished Emachine Model 3609
RC 101 142 20R 707 16
Vista Home basic 32 bit
512 RAM CPU 3.33 GHz
Service Pack 1
I found the dump files in a popup called
Startup and Recovery
has the following
System failure
check box Write an evnt to the System log , and the check box is
checked
check box Automaticlly restart, check box checked
Write debugging information
option box, in it is Kernel memory dump
3 aditional options (none)
Small memory Dump (64 KB )
Complete memory dump
Dump file
% System Root % \memory.DMP
check box Overwrite any existing File, and check box checked
I have come to belive these are files not good for anything just filling
space ,and can be removed permanently, is that correct?
hope its clear enough have read a lot here and Help and Support
to try and remove this dump this is probly the place to start
but I have no clue how, learned enough to now fast clicker fast trouble

Now when I look at my Hard Drive I see a file SaveData.mig of about 35 GB (I

Is it so you could tranfer it to antother PC?

Blank screen on laptop when connected to TV
Hello all,
I can connect my laptop to my computer and get sound and video with
absolutely no problem.
Where I run into my issue: When it's connected, the TV turn into the

(I believe I selected this option not knowing what the outcome would be when
my windows vista laptop was connected to the TV for the very first time).
I absolutely dislike that I have to work all my functions through my TV and
would like my laptop monitor to display a screen at the same time. Is that
possible to undo what I caused?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful dayï??.

Windows Vista Ultimate Backup does not work
When I first installed MS Vista Ultimate 64 bit I did a full backup using
the imbedded backup and restore center. After that I made two subsequent
backups. I experienced a severe problem with the operating system that could
not be diagnosed so I decided to try a restore point first. After all
restore points failed to solve the problem I decided to try a full restore
using the imbedded backup and restore center (which by the way I keep
backups on another SATA drive and that drive is used for no other purpose).
When trying the newest made backup the system froze in the middle of the
restore and said that it could not find a file. OK, so I went to the next
oldest full backup. This was restored. However, after restoration Internet
Explorer would not work and neither would the start menu. OK, so I boot the
Vista Ultimate 64 bit DVD and tried to restore the last known oldest full
backup. After this was done same problem. Internet Explorer would not open
although the start menu would work. I would certainly like to know why I
paid so much money for this version of Vista for accompanying imbedded
software that does not work. Tag: Is this adam albright or his wife? Tag: 399273
From Gizmodo - What Bill Gates Says
This was published in Gizmodo.
I think this is typical of what happens in Windows. I am sure it happens
occassionally with other OS but with Windows it is par for the course.
The funny thing is you would think since this memo in 2003 they would
have got their act together.
Well just look at vista.
Classic Clips: Bill Gates Chews Out Microsoft Over XP
<http://gizmodo.com/5019516/classic-clips-bill-gates-chews-out-microsoft-over-xp>
With Bill Gates <http://gizmodo.com/tag/bill-gates/> saying good-bye to
Microsoft this week, we're realizing more by the day how much we'll miss
the guy. And when reading through the many interviews floating around
this week, we came across this jewel from 2003. A leaked memo from
Microsoft, it's several pages of Gates just laying into his design and
programming staff for?among other issues?his personal experience when
trying to install Windows Moviemaker. And it's a /very/ fulfilling read
if you've ever been frustrated by a Microsoft product.

Subject: Windows Usability Systematic degradation flame
I am quite disappointed at how Windows Usability has been going
backwards and the program management groups don't drive usability
issues.
Let me give you my experience from yesterday.
I decided to download (Moviemaker) and buy the Digital Plus pack ...
so I went to Microsoft.com. They have a download place so I went there.
The first 5 times I used the site it timed out while trying to bring
up the download page. Then after an 8 second delay I got it to come up.
This site is so slow it is unusable.
It wasn't in the top 5 so I expanded the other 45.
These 45 names are totally confusing. These names make stuff like:
C:\Documents and Settings\billg\My Documents\My Pictures seem clear.
They are not filtered by the system ... and so many of the things
are strange.
I tried scoping to Media stuff. Still no moviemaker. I typed in
movie. Nothing. I typed in movie maker. Nothing.
So I gave up and sent mail to Amir saying - where is this Moviemaker
download? Does it exist?
So they told me that using the download page to download something
was not something they anticipated.
They told me to go to the main page search button and type movie
maker (not moviemaker!).
I tried that. The site was pathetically slow but after 6 seconds of
waiting up it came.
I thought for sure now I would see a button to just go do the download.
In fact it is more like a puzzle that you get to solve. It told me
to go to Windows Update and do a bunch of incantations.
This struck me as completely odd. Why should I have to go somewhere
else and do a scan to download moviemaker?
So I went to Windows update. Windows Update decides I need to
download a bunch of controls. (Not) just once but multiple times
where I get to see weird dialog boxes.
Doesn't Windows update know some key to talk to Windows?
Then I did the scan. This took quite some time and I was told it was
critical for me to download 17megs of stuff.
This is after I was told we were doing delta patches to things but
instead just to get 6 things that are labeled in the SCARIEST
possible way I had to download 17meg.
So I did the download. That part was fast. Then it wanted to do an
install. This took 6 minutes and the machine was so slow I couldn't
use it for anything else during this time.
What the heck is going on during those 6 minutes? That is crazy.
This is after the download was finished.
Then it told me to reboot my machine. Why should I do that? I reboot
every night ? why should I reboot at that time?
So I did the reboot because it INSISTED on it. Of course that meant
completely getting rid of all my Outlook state.
So I got back up and running and went to Windows Updale again. I
forgot why I was in Windows Update at all since all I wanted was to
get Moviemaker.
So I went back to Microsoft.com and looked at the instructions. I
have to click on a folder called WindowsXP. Why should I do that?
Windows Update knows I am on Windows XP.
What does it mean to have to click on that folder? So I get a bunch
of confusing stuff but sure enough one of them is Moviemaker.
So I do the download. The download is fast but the Install takes
many minutes. Amazing how slow this thing is.
At some point I get told I need to go get Windows Media Series 9 to
download.
So I decide I will go do that. This time I get dialogs saying things
like "Open" or "Save". No guidance in the instructions which to do.
I have no clue which to do.
The download is fast and the install takes 7 minutes for this thing.
So now I think I am going to have Moviemaker. I go to my add/remove
programs place to make sure it is there.
It is not there.
What is there? The following garbage is there. Microsoft Autoupdate
Exclusive test package, Microsoft Autoupdate Reboot test package,
Microsoft Autoupdate testpackage1. Microsoft AUtoupdate
testpackage2, Microsoft Autoupdate Test package3.
Someone decided to trash the one part of Windows that was usable?
The file system is no longer usable. The registry is not usable.
This program listing was one sane place but now it is all crapped up.
But that is just the start of the crap. Later I have listed things
like Windows XP Hotfix see Q329048 for more information. What is
Q329048? Why are these series of patches listed here? Some of the
patches just things like Q810655 instead of saying see Q329048 for
more information.
What an absolute mess.
Moviemaker is just not there at all.
So I give up on Moviemaker and decide to download the Digital Plus
Package.
I get told I need to go enter a bunch of information about myself.
I enter it all in and because it decides I have mistyped something I
have to try again. Of course it has cleared out most of what I typed.
I try (typing) the right stuff in 5 times and it just keeps clearing
things out for me to type them in again.
So after more than an hour of craziness and making my programs list
garbage and being scared and seeing that Microsoft.com is a terrible
website I haven't run Moviemaker and I haven't got the plus package.
The lack of attention to usability represented by these experiences
blows my mind. I thought we had reached a low with Windows Network
places or the messages I get when I try to use 802.11. (don't you
just love that root certificate message?)
When I really get to use the stuff I am sure I will have more feedback.
When Seattle Pi recently asked Gates about the email, he replied,
"There's not a day that I don't send a piece of e-mail ... like that
piece of e-mail. That's my job." There was no mention as to whether or
not Gates had time to take names. [Seattle Pi

itunes and the 64 bit for gaming
I do not have any discs with the 64 bit OS on it either everything

Some Icons dragged/copied to Vista desktop from another HDD invisi
Hello
I am just getting to grips with Vista but I also have XP on another HDD.
Whilst copying over some files (to the desktop) and folders from the XP
drive some of them do not show visibly on the Vista desktop after dragging or
pasting.
The copied files are there, and I can access the contents, as I can see them
in the desktop folder but I cannot see how to make them visible on the actual
desktop disply.
Any clues please

thanks in advance for any help

Vista Repair Install
In wanting to do a repair install (keeping existing programs etc), on running
Recovery CD, I get the message............
"Upgrade has been disabled vand cannot be started. To upgrade, cancel the
installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of windows that is more
recent than the versiopn you are currently running"
I'm running Vista Home Premium (fully updated) but suspecting that I may
have a problem, I thought I could do a repair install but it seems all I can
do is either a clean install and thus lose everything or upgrade to I assume
Business or Ultimate Editions of Vista. Why can't I do a repair install from
Vista Recovery CD???? Tag: Is this adam albright or his wife? Tag: 399176
Dell Inspiron Upgrade to Vista
I have just upgraded a Dell Inspiron with XP home SP2 to Vista
Business. It was working okay, but when coming out of hibernation, the
screen would just go blue with white lines and shut down. I installed
the latest ATI video driver from Dell and now, when it gets to the
desktop, the same thing happens. I can only boot in Safe Mode. I am
getting ready to do a complete install of Vista SP1 (not upgrade).
Has anyone had any problems with the Vista video drivers for this
laptop?
