re-install and re-install update

KB936181, downloaded twelve times. all succeeded. but, always still offered
again?

since I assume that a solution will be forthcoming, how may I then

delete the 11 extra duplicates from the update list?!

Your antivirus app may be stopping the update. Only one copy is on your
system. The history list shows attempts. Installed updates will be listed in
'Programs and Features' in Control Panel

all updates on this security update (8 so far) show succeeded.

Security updates for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 may
repeatedly appear in the update list on Microsoft Update or on Windows
Update:

Try it from "elevated" Command Prompt.
