registry

I'm looking for some steps on how to completely reset my registy. I've done
disk cleanup and the other option of deleting all the temporary internet
files, cookies and whatnot but my computer is still running slow. I'm sure
it has something to do with downloaded game data hiding somewhere I can't
find them! ARGH! help!

Well, I'm sure not convinced that the problem is in the registry. The
first thing I would try is running a good spyware/adware program scan
(you can use Windows Defender in the Control Panel). Then, I would run
a full scan with your Anti-Virus software.

Next, you could check Internet Options, Programs, Manage Add-Ons...
and look for suspicious controls, objects, etc especially those that
mention your suspect game publisher. It really sounds like you have
malware more than a registry problem.

You can also use Defender to manage programs that run at startup, or
Start, key 'System Configuration' in the search box, select the
Startup tab and look for an offending program.

Also, you could do a System Restore to a point prior to when you
loaded the suspect game, or to the last point where the system was
running fine. In Control Panel, do a search for 'System Restore' and
choose "Restore system files and settings from a restore point."

BTW - you could also search groups for the name of the game you
suspect and see if anyone else has had the same problem.

Hi,

As Solon Fox suggested it's not your Registry slowing your system down.
Along with Spyware you may also check your Startup items and see what and
how many are loading. Click Start and at the bottom in the Start Search,
type in msconfig
Click the Startup Tab to see what is loading.

Hi,

None of those steps has anything to do with the system registry. The only
way to "reset" it is to restore a previous version, and this is normally
done via System Restore.
