preventing the windows logo from being show.

I wish to prevent the windows logo from being show during boot up.

Use Hibernate then, which is actually the right way to start and shutdown
Windows.

i have heard of HORM (hibernate once resume many), is this what you
mean?
how would i go about doing this in vista?
