    - Can't get NT Backup to work Hello I have put back the Windows NT Backup program in Vista so that i should backup, not just restore and I think I have tested it on a external USB drive. Now I try to do a backup using the NT Backu program to another USB drive. It quits after a couple seconds with th following error in the log Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:Catastrophi Failure. The external backup drive is a Seagate FreeAgent Pro USB drive and i contained some software from Seagate and Memeo which I have uninstalle from Vista What can I do to allow NT Backup to successfully backup to the Seagat FreeAgent Pro external USB drive?     - DRIVE LETTER QUESTION I have a new Dell computer (Vista) with a built in multi-card reader. The computer automatically assigns 5 drive letters to the reader, one for each slot. In all probabiity, I will never user 4 of those drives; at least for now, I don't own any relevant cards/sticks.     - Error messages I have a user who has Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit) and they keep getting an error, especially when trying to launch WindowsMail. There are two errors. The first is "C:\windows\AppPatch\AcLayers.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error...." The other is the same exact message, except for c:\Windows\system32\inetres.dll. Then it will pop up an error message stating that Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be loaded. I did some research yesterday and found that it is a known issue with KB935280 and uninstalling and supposedly reinstalling with the correct version would fix it. I uninstalled that hotfix and tried to reinstall the correct one, but it won't install saying that "The update does not apply to your system." Please advise how to fix this problem...     - OpenVPN istallation and compatability Hello all, I'm new here but found a lot of interesting stuff already.I am in the process of rolling out Vista Business machines our users who need OpenVPN access to connect to our network from home.I have installed VPN and done all of the relevant certificate requirements which allow access into the network, but my only problems is that I cannot get the program file to run at start up.By doing this all they have to do is double click on the icon on the taskbar to launch the connection. Without this, they have to run as administrator from the desktop and then double click the icon, which most people forget.I added it as a scheduled task to run at start up but it looks like its doing nothing. However, if I view the same scheduled task and run it manually the program starts. Any ideas? Select multiple files in a given folder in Windows Explorer is straight forward enough (click 1st file, press shift and click on last file). Can we select multiple folders the same way? The select multiple file method just doesn't work... 2. I just switched from XP a few months ago. I remember that the keyboard shortcut for context sensitive menu is underlined. e.g. when right-click on an image in a browser, i can type an 'r' to get the Property window.     - Vista made me staring at Configuring Updates screen for 1 hour I just restored my Vista from a hidden partition of the HD last night. Just when I was ready to start using my laptop, the auto update kicked in and rebooted my PC. Then, all I could do was staring at the Configuring Updates for ~ 1 hour (without knowing how long it would take). After that, I had to go to bed. What a waste of time! I'm not blaming the updates, but the design and the process can use some improvements. It should have warned the users of time it may require. It should have shown the progress of the process instead of the endless in progress animation. Vista installer can tell you how many minutes left, why can major time-consuming updates do the same? auto-update should have more options than installing without informing the users.     - Login process has failed to create the security options Hello all, This is my first post and I realise the topic has been addressed already. However, the relevant threads are closed (incidentally, I'd love to know why) and from what I can tell, no one's got to the bottom of this problem despite a flurry of recent correspondence on the subject. I have a new laptop (weeks old only) and its my first experience with Vista (Premium). Today, although I've not changed the configuration or added or removed any software, my screen is randomly and unexpectedly going pale and although the cursor moves, nothing else is responding. Eventually, the screen goes black and after further delay this message appears: "*Login process has failed to create the security options*" The system does not respond to CTL-ALT-DEL. The only way to shut down is to power off. On restart (apart from the usual warnings and suggestions that I start in Safe Mode following a forced shutdown), everything works fine again for awhile, then the problem re-occurs. I've been studying the Web all morning and there's been a rash of this problem starting just a few months ago (there are few, if any reports before that). This is very suspicious therefore. In most forums two main options are routinely offered - first, that it is related to hard disc failure and second that it is related to anti-virus software. Neither is definitive however. In fact, most people are still reporting that the problem is NOT fixed, which is why I am surprised that threads relating to it are closed. Does anybody know what's going on, or the real solution?     - Offline files sync Vista Business, fresh install, new Dell Latitude D630 Core2Duo 4GB of RAM. I setup Offline Files to sync a part of a network share at work, so I could easily work on files while at home and have it sync when I got back into the office. It sort of worked for a few days, but always seemed to think the connection was offline unless I rebooted. When I rebooted it worked until I left the office, then it was permanently offline until I rebooted in the office again. Three weeks ago it became totally useless and will NEVER go online and sync the files anymore. At this point I just want to remove it like it never existed, because I cannot access that network share anymore. It always shows the local copy (stale) and it's always in the disconnected state. I can't get to other branches of the share either. How do I remove all traces of the Offline Folder so I can access the network share again? Thanks.     - Second time around - Vista webserver access Please accept my apologies if I have cross posted this question inappropriately. I had this problem solved first time around but the solution evades me second time around. I needed to reinstall Vista when I made a mistake constructing a RAID storage array. (It works great now.) I wish to make my web server page(s) available to the Internet. At this point, I can access the webpage with URL http://127.0.0.1/ but with http://192.168.0.100/ I get a Gateway Timeout error. First time around I set up virtual web server on my router so I'm sure that still works. I've done every thing I thought I did first time around. Thanks in advance for help. The group also found that 35 percent of organizations describe themselves as "not yet interested" in Vista. The OS most people appear to be developing or piloting is Windows XP, with 12 percent of businesses saying they were doing so compared to 5 percent for Vista. Interestingly more businesses said they're currently investigating or analyzing Microsoft's next scheduled OS, Windows 7 (30 percent), than Vista (14 percent). In contrast, 7 percent of businesses even said they're still exploiting Windows 2000, although 19 percent said they are currently replacing or "sunsetting" it. In April, research showed that Vista uptake among businesses was slow during 2007, although a quarter of businesses said they planned to upgrade in 2008. The main reason given by Tif members for not moving to Vista was a lack of business requirement to do so. Meanwhile, Microsoft's latest browser, Internet Explorer 7, is having a similar battle with its predecessor, IE 6, with a fifth of respondents saying they're not yet interested in the newer version of the application. Almost two-thirds of businesses surveyed (65 percent) said they are exploiting IE 6 compared to 4 percent for IE 7. However, 14 percent said they are currently piloting IE 7, with the same proportion using it in isolation.
