Hi,

I am running Vista Business 64bit an an Asus P5WD-Deleux with four hard
drives. Three on Intel S-ATA controller and one on the Jmicron controller.

For no apparent reason Vista will set the drive on the Jmicron
controller to Write Protected. I have changed the drive thinking it may
have been a hardware fault but it still happens. Sometimes running chkdsk
/f on it will change it back to normal, other times it won't and stays that
way until I reboot and then run chkdsk /f.

This Vista prep is around a year old and this has only just (over the
last couple of months) started happening. Has anyone got any ideas?

You're not alone. I'm having essentially the same problem. In my case,
it is my d-drive that gets write protected. The only way I have found
to get it writable is to schedule "chkdsk /f" to run at boot. The drive
is the second partition on the disk that contains my boot partition, but
this happens only on the d-drive.

It's very annoying and I have found no pattern in the occurrence and
nothing useful on the web so far.
