    - What Vista showing incorrect memory allocation? Hello folks, I have Vista 64 with 4 gigabytes of memory. Vista shows that I have 4 gigabytes of memory in the system properties and welcome screen but my Winver command and the Task Manager displays that I have only 2.7 gigabytes of memory? I recently installed a Radeon 3870 HD 1 GB graphics card. Could my GPU could be eating up the rest of the memory. My motherboard is a DFI Lan Party UT NF4 Ultra D.     - Windows Update My automatic updates stop downloading since December last year. I wish to know if there's a limit for support on that in my licence for DELL Inspiron 1501 but I didn't find anything on that matter.     - delete file from print job list - HP Officejet Pro 550k My Windows is in portuguese so I don't know the correct screen names in english. (sorry) I try to delete a print job file from printer spool opening the printer icon besides the system clock, spool driver says "deleting" but never really delete! Normally I need to reboot to really eliminate the file from the list and print a new file. Sometimes this doest work and the printer, after reboot, try to print that file...     - HOW LONG?! Copying files. I just migrated from Windows XP Pro to Vista Ultimate (64bit). So far things have run *fairly* smoothly, but I am astonished at the length of time it is taking for me to copy files. For instance I want to copy 1/2 dozen folders from my "D" partition to my "C" partition (drag & drop using Windows Explorer - both partitions are NTFS, and I get the same result copying files on the same partition too). These files existed on my previous XP install, and when I copied them from D to C on XP it took around 2 minutes or so. Now the exact same files are taking upwards of 25+ minutes to copy in Vista!     - Need codecs This may be OT - if so sorry. In my playing with Vista Ultimate, I have encountered a problem trying to play some avi and mov files, using WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC (mplayerc.exe). I keep getting an error window, saying I probably need certain codecs that I do not have installed. Is there an easy way to determine exactly what codecs are needed? That is, is there a utility that will diagnose that information so that I can then seek it or them on the web?     - Task Scheduler Problem I have a vbs script that I use to copy files from my local drive to a network drive as a backup. The script works fine on its own (by double-clicking it or by running it from the command prompt). I created a scheduled task to have it run automatically, but it doesn't seem to work. It says that it completed successfully, but it didn't really do anything. Even if I select it in the Task Scheduler and then click "Run" in the Actions pane, it says it's status is "Running", but nothing is happening. What am I doing wrong?     - Every left click or highlight prompts delete function in Vista I've come across an annoying bug with Vista, occassionally when I left click on an item I get the delete prompt on the selected item. The bug is unpredictable and happens and then goes away. I will just be working left click and the permission dialog to delete pops up. Left click NO on the permission dialog recalls the delete function and starts a vicions loop that seems to fail after a large number of NO clicks It also seems to occur when a higlight is made to select a menu item. Thank you for help or feedback from anyone who has information. I don't know if it is a bug with vista or a virus. I have used virus scan and it does not report any issues.     - Dual monitor display settings revert on startup I run Vista on a laptop and have a 2nd monitor hooked up via a docking station. I set my 2nd monitor (i.e. not the laptop screen) as my main monitor, however, after every restart Vista always reverts back to the Laptop as the main monitor.     - Media Center and disabling subtitles I cannot disable subtitles in TV. My version of Vista Ultimate doesn't have TV listed in the settings area, so I cannot fix this.     - need to scan disk after blue screen? Sometimes the PC will blue screen or even reboot itself due to HDTV recording or power outage... just wonder nowadays, if no scan disk is done after that, can we keep on using the computer without further damaging the existing files? Supposedly, it may be better to do a "scan and repair" for the whole drive after that, so that it is back to "normal"... but for a big drive, like 750GB, it can take a couple of hours... so I wonder for the modern OS, will it be smart to save files in a way that when the computer blue screen or reboot, no scan disk is needed to prevent further damage to files?     - Media Player Reassings Album Artist I download a lot of mixtapes that cannot be found using the conventiental method of "Find Album Info", so I manually enter the information and paste the album art. A problem has formed recently that is EXTREMELY annoying. As I'm entering information, songs will randomly revert back to their original Album Artist and break the album up into dozens of different artists. I drag them back to where they belong and within moments they separate again. The song title and contributing artist also divert back in this process.     - Trouble saving Vista Excel files as an earlier version I am the only one in the company who has Vista on their PC. When I create an excel file and save it as an earlier version it creates a really huge file which is then too big to send by email and it jams my email programme. (eg: normal file size is 100KB but when I 'save as' it creates a file of 8000KB) If I dont save as an earlier version, no-one else can open them. I am running Microsoft Office Excel 2007.     - Desktop icons will not stay at set size Not sure how I did this, but I have gotten into a state where my desktop icons will not stay at the size I set. If I set them to classic size, the get small, but then they grow back to giant size. If I go back to View, large icons are again selected even though I had selected classic. If I use the CTRL + mouse scroll wheel, every turn of the wheel makes them smaller but they immediately grow large again. This started when I hooked up a projector to the VGA connector.     - Can't click and drag Hi, I've been having an issue with this for a bit now and I've exhausted my knowledge of troubleshooting. I'm hoping this isn't some stupid fix or something that is the precursor to something really bad, so here goes. I was trying to enqueue some of my music collection a while back and found that I could not click and drag to highlight multiple files. Okay, thought it was something wrong with my mouse, so I tried a shift+click.. nothing. Just selected the file I clicked on and nothing else. Ctrl+click does the same thing, just one file. This only seems to happen when I'm in my music folder or a data cd. Pictures, documents, other files are no problem. Just my music and data cds. My music was copied from a storage hard drive, but I don't think that should make a difference as so were my pictures and other files. Oh, background.. I'm using Vista Home Premium. And not that I think it matters, but I have 2 gb of ram a 250gb harddrive, and a 2.6ghz dual-core AMD processor. Now, while it's not a huge concern, it just annoys me to no end.     - Palm Treo 700wx/Windows Mobile 5/Windows Vista Home Premium I have had this Treo since September 2007. In December 2007 I got a new HP Notebook that came with Windows Vista Home Premium x86. I then installed WMDC 6.1 and have been able to synchronize the device with Windows Vista using the cable with no issues. I recently purchased a bluetooth adapter that you stick in the USB port. I installed the drivers for it and successfully created a new bluetooth partnership. I then deleted the ActiveSync partnership on the device and delete the partnership on Windows Mobile Device Center. I did a soft reset on the device and restarted the computer. Then I attached the cable to the phone and attached the other end to the computer. I did an initial sync and established a new partnership. After I did that I then disconnected the cable. Then I went to the Windows Mobile Device Center to see how to connect using bluetooth. I followed the directions and I am unable to connect using bluetooth.     - Help: Can't upgrade Vista to SP1 - it fail at part 3 I've been trying for 2 days now to upgrade from Vista Business edition to SP1. The same thing keeps happening. I get through parts 1 and 2 ok, but when the system reboots for part 3, it reboots several times giving me the choice to boot normally or in safe mode, then eventually it stops rebooting and just goes blank. I can reboot successfully in safe mode but the installation of part 3 will ultimately fail (the error code points to not being able to install particular components as a result of being in safe mode) and the system has to regress to the original condition. I tried all the suggestions on the MS Vista upgrade trouble shooting site (as well as several other sites)- including checking for specific updates - none of which apply to my machine - at least that what windows update tells me when I try to install them, checked the disk for errors, and checked the memory for problems. I also turned absolutely everything no- original MS off for start up including antivirus and some other stuff that I have and the same thing keeps happening. Each pass, from upgrade install to fail, and regress back to original condition takes about 5 hours. I'm running Vista on a quad core machine with 4G of onboard memory (even though Vista 32 can only use about 3 gigs) and a smoking video card so I doubt this is a hardware problem. This problem appears to be similar to the original 'endless reboot' problem that prompted the original halting of SP1 distribution back in the early spring - I thought that problem was fixed! I tried to get real time help from the MS site but got a message that there was a problem with the site. - Good Greif! This is probably the most frustrating MS experience of all time. With all due respect to the folks at MS, if it was your intention to have people to switch from Windows PC's to Apples or even Linux based PC's, I doubt you could have come up with a better plan. I've already switched two of my home computers to Ubutu!     - Windows Mobile Device Center I'm using Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I've had no problems using my Windows Mobile 5.0 based device before installing Vista SP1. But since installing SP1 and when I connect my device, Vista asks me for my device password and when I enter the password, Auto Play starts up instead of Windows Mobile Device Center. When I start up Windows Mobile Device Center from the Control Panel, I get the Connection Settings dialog box and it just says "Device Connected" and there are two check boxes: Allow USB Connections and Allow Connections to Bluetooth.     - Feed headlines gadget - how to stop Some days ago I was working on my friend computer. On his sidebar wa installed Feed Headlines from Microsoft. It was in default state (neve running on). Unfortunatelly to me I clicked on it and feed gadget star to download headlines. Does anybody know the way to stop this gadget an return it to default state - my friend is ungry with me because on ever vista start the internet connections window appear forced by thi gadget.
