Slow boot .. .DVD drive the cause

I dont have sata DVD drive as first boot drive ( hard drive is 1st ) yet
Vista still insists on looking at whatever is in the drive ( usually some
game DVD ) and the boot time is very slow. Yet if I remove the DVD or even
hit the eject button whilst booting the boot is quick .

Now why does Vista want to examine the DVD in my drive before booting ?

It's not Vista checking the disc in the drive. At that particula
stage, Vista hasn't even started yet! The BIOS has detected a DVD in th
drive, and is checking it for a valid CDROM/DVDROM bootsector for i
case the boot fails from HDD (which is first in your boot order)

Well I disablaled the DVD player from the boot order and only have the hard
drive enabled in the boot order. Put the DVD back in and after over three
minutes it finally booted. Then tried without DVD and it took 40 seconds
until Vista was running.
So looks like the BIOS still scans the DVD player for some reason
