I have followed the instructions given to a T - Personalize - Put check in
box for Recycle Bin and clicked OK, but I can't get the recycle bin ICON back
on my desktop

You have to click "Apply" before you click OK.

Try setting your view to auto arrange... your Recycle Bin icon might have
"gone offscreen" and it's "there" but you can't see it...

Your description of the instructions given to you appears to be
little vague and simplified. At the risk of repeating what you alread
knew, allow me to show the step-by-step way :
1.) right click on the deskto
2.) choose Personaliz
3.) click CHANGE DESKTOP ICONS at the left pane
4.) click Recycle Bin (full), then click Change Ico
5.) again, click Recycle Bin (full), then click O
6.) click Recycle Bin (empty), then click Change Ico
7.) again, click Recycle Bin (empty), then click O
8.) click APPLY first, then click O
You'll have your icon back where it was. I did that on my lapto
countles times. Please reply successful or not. Thank you
