    - Word&Excel:Add-Edit Toolbar&Buttons:Autocorrect to Excel Toolbar!! OK, I give up!!! How do I create a new toolbar? How do I edit the Toolbar Command Buttons (Icons?)? How do I create and add an Autocorrect (AC) Command Button to an Excel Toolbar??? NOW the Complaints: I HATE the ribbons, period? I LOVED the nice, neat, useful, and tiny toolbars I created and edited in the 2003 programs and this 'RIBBON' thing is the most obnoxious thing ever !! I REALLY fell bad for those laptop dudes and dudettes, especially the 15" (or smaller) screens. I have a nice, new, big 19" and I find the useless and extravagant space requirements for the "Ribbon" (who came up with that one, anyway?) EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I used to have three to six shortened, "CUSTOMER"-ized toolbars arranged in 2 to 3 rows and made up of the commands I NEED and/or WANTED and they used up the same or less space than this stupid Ribbon!!! OH, and that's another thing, I could center them for easy access!!! When created a Macro and placed it in a toolbar a generic icon would be displayed but I could, and did, copy, paste, edit them so I could tell at a glance what command was being represented!!! I didn't care for many of the icons in the 2003 Word and Excel and I could EASILY edit them to my liking - as in something that made sense. I could and did, create different toolbars that I could easily customize, open or close depending on the type af task I was performing, and I REALLY don't like many of the Microsoft default buttons. I created numerous Macros that I added to the toolbar(s) because there were no commands available for certain tasks I wanted to shortcut. NOW, HA, I'm stuck with what Microsoft thinks I need, with what Microsoft thinks we ALL need. AS you can tell, I'm PO'd about this. I have spent more hours trying to figure a way to get what I want than it did to edit a create my old toolbars and the more hours I spend researching and trying to figure it out the more frustrating that time is and the more it takes away from creating and editing!!! HELL, why do you thing I am posting this at 5.00 AM - I can't justify spending any more time on it at work or taking time away from my family so here I am!! I started researching this AGAIN around midnight and now, another 5 hours burned up with ZILCHO TO SHOW FOR IT!! I am not at all impressed with VISTA, period, never mind the inability to CUSTOMerIZE the program toolbars I use EVERY day. It is about the customer, isn't it? My experience so far is that 2007 programs and VISTA are not an upgrade - they're more like a DOWNGRADE. OH, and I would go back to the 2003 programs but, for some odd reason, one can't very easily find a new computer with just plain old windows. Anyway, enough of the wine - I need some cheese. And any help - NO, specific answers that a non-tech like me cn understand - would be appreciated, very much!!! ps: Man, I never write stuff like this, sorry! I am just so ticked off, so frustrated with the blocks at every turn to set up and customize efficiency into my new HP laptop I just can't seem to help myself.     - sp1 fed up like many others Ive done exactly what the instructions told me to do, in regard to updates for my vista home basics 32 bit and I still get failed install. Ive been trying to update using the automatic updateing and manualy, also had discussions with IT people and other technical support going through my computer to see if they could fix the problem of why it will not download.     - display setting on beamer change unmotivated after 10min... Hi, I have a IBM T60p and recently installed VISTA enterprise. When I connect the laptop to an external beamer, it all works fine and properly detects the device and adjusts the resolution but after around 10min of operation (using powerpoint) it just changed the resolution to something else (lowers the resolution, so that only around 70% of the slide was visible) without me having done something. As this obvioulsy is a horror scenario during a presentation in front of 100people that I'll have in a few days, ....what can I do to make sure something like this does not happen again?     - Hibernate crashes vista Hi, My version of Vista premium Home won't stay asleep so I altered it to hibernate. Unfortunately every time I hibernate on waking it up it crashes.     - Publisher 2007 Fill Effects I used to have Publisher 2000 on my old computer. I've since upgraded to Vista and Publisher 2007, and all-in-all the new version is superior. However, I just went to do a fill effect for the background of a picture in my document, and I discovered much to my disappointment that many of the fill effect patterns from Publisher 2000 that were kind of cool seem to be gone. I'm referring to the simple fade-in / fade-out type patterns where you can select multiple colors to blend into one another following a pre-set geometric shape. Publisher 2000 used to have many more shapes than I have now - there used to be a variety of spirals, stars, arrows, and so forth to choose from. Now there are only some basic variations on horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and "from center". I want to know if there is any way to install just those fill effect patterns from either my old Publisher 2000 CD or from some other source so that I once again have access to them; or is it possible to have both versions of Publisher installed and functional at the same time on my computer?     - RunDLL error when starting vista when starting vista im getting 2 RunDLL error that says error loading C:\users\ninja~1\AppData\Local\Temp\ljJBQJaY.dll and the other the same thing but difeerent .dll file named bYolmKCs.dll. at the bottom of thses dialog window it says " the spacified module could not be found " is this a virus or its just that for some reason im missing those two .DLL files? i tried to look for em manually at the addres given by the error but i dont see em there.     - I Miss The Old XP Modem Avtivity Icon In the system tray in Windows XP there was a modem icon that lighted up when data was being transmitted or received. It really helped with a dialup connection - being able to see if the connection was active or not. In Vista, the modem icon is static and doesn't show anything other than the fact that there is an active connection.     - Launch command window from task scheduler From task scheduler I would like to launch a command window w/params and SEE it in action. Used to be you could schedule your foo.cmd with "cmd /k <drive>:\<path>\foo.cmd" and either watch it open and run, or check it the next morning.     - Can't get into Safe Mode/Error loading Operating System Whenever I start my computer, it will load and then suddenly, I'll get an message saying "Error loading operating system". I'm pretty sure I need to go into safe mode and pull a system restore. The real problem is, I can't get into my Advanced Boot Options now. I was able to do it before but ever since this problem arised, I've put hours into pressing F8 while its loading, but it doesn't go into any options. Anyone know what to do? I'd rather not have to reinstall my operating system because I've been working on a project that's practically done, that isn't backed up. Well thanks for the time, effort, and help.     - Vista DEP Problems Microsoft Vista DEP Violation Problems I have 32 bit Microsoft Vista Ultimate. It is running on a Dell XPS420 with Q6600, 2.4GHZ quad processor that I purchased in December 2007. I have 4 GB @ 667 MHZ of memory (3.3 GB usable). I have a 256 MB ATI HD 2600 graphics card. I have a Dell Ultrasharp 22 inch monitor (1680 x 1050 pixels). I use McAfee VirusScan Plus. I have Office Professional 2003 and use Outlook for e-mail. Microsoft Works 8.5 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 came with the computer. I have 2 Optical drives E: & F: a 320 SATA hard drive C: & D: and a 250 GB SATA hard drive G: for backup. I use Embarq DSL. I have a HP psc 1210v all-in-one printer for normal use and a very simple Lexmark Z600 printer used exclusively for printing name badges. Microsoft update is auto and all Microsoft software is current. Except for Microsoft Vista SP1 which Microsoft has advised not to install. Other programs such as McAfee VirusScan, Windows Defender etc. are up to date. I had a problem with my Microsoft Vista print spooler (spoolsv.exe) stopping on Data Execution Prevention (DEP) violations from the time I installed my HP and Lexmark printers. This has been only an irritation to date as I have set the spooler to always restart 1 minute after failure. However lately I am having more programs stop on DEP violation. The Microsoft Vistaâ?? WMI Provider Hostâ?? has stopped several times on DEP. I do not know what the â??Vista WMI Provider Hostâ?? does. I did not see any adverse results with the Microsoft Vistaâ?? WMI Provider Hostâ?? stopped. So far my DEP violations have been random and inconsistent. The print spooler stops on DEP even when both printers are off. I have performed hardware checks as recommended by Dell and the computer hardware tested OK. Today however, Microsoft Vista Internet Explorer 7 failed 4 times on DEP violations. These failures were repeatable. I was filling in a grant application at the My Safe Florida Home Website. I went through several pages of questions on the website and filled in the necessary data. The final step was to â??Browseâ?? for and open my home insurance data (a .jpg file) and to â??Browseâ?? for and open my Property Appraisal (a .jpg file). Each time I clicked on browse, Microsoft Vista IE7 stopped on a DEP violation and I lost my connection to the My Safe Florida Home Website. After determining that my new Dell XSP420 computer was not able to complete the grant application, I got out my 6 year old HP Presario laptop with XP and was able to complete the grant application without any problems.     - Backup is full, Not Full Backup I am trying to figure out what to do when my backup location can no longer accept new backups because it is full. I tried to do a search but the "full" just brings up references to the Full Backup you can do with Windows Vista Ultimate. Any one know where I could find out best practices for doing backups. For example, do I reformat the drive my backup is on so I can do another backup? Or do I buy a bigger drive, and continue doing this as the months go by? I have the following questions. 1.When I attempt to start some program desktop shortcuts, instead of running, the file is first opened up in the Explorer file handler.     - Easy transfer autoloads on my XP machine I asked the following question in the XP help and support NG, but they told me to come here instead. I transferred what files I needed from my older XP PC to a new Vista machine. Now whenever I boot up my XP PC, the XP PC opens up a folder onto the desktop called "Microsoft" which has another folder in it called "MigWiz". I can click it closed, but it is a pain to have to do every time I turn that computer on. I tried to locate the program name running msconfig.exe, but could not find it in particular. I also went to "Add/Remove Programs...", found the program, but said that certain other programs I have would/could possibly not run right if I removed the Easy Transfer application...one of which is UPnP.     - Vista 64 Ultimate I have installed the OS fine with 2 gb of memory and now want to add the send set of 2gb to go to 4gb. I have heard you need SP1 in order to do this. I went to update to SP1 and read some forms that if all the drivers are up to date it should come in the auto d/ls I have done all the automatic updates and no SP1. All drivers on the system are up to date. I was going to just d/l it and install mannually but read it is not a good idea as people have had major issues like blue screens ect once they do this.     - AVG Free 8 and Vista possible conflicts? Today I downloaded the new free AVG. I have this and Spyware blaster and Super antispyware installed. I ran a scan with te AVG and it found Trojan's, adware, etc, or so it seemed. When the summary came up at the end a result of 0 (as in nothing found) came up in each categry, with about 214 in the warnings category, potential threats. Did the AVG somehow mistake the protection files for the The software on both mine and my dad's laptops is pretty identical, and the same result showed up on both. I wasn't sure what to do at the end. I haven't changed any settings and as I understand it all the threats were removed. At any rate I ran the scan again and nothing was found. The supposed adware etc often is listed under 'File' in AVG as HKLM \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibl... if that helps anyone identify what's happening any better. I just considered then that maybe having run 7.5 with these Vista laptops might be why these got through. From what I read compatibility with Vista machines seem to vary?     - Xbox 360 will not recognize external hard drives on pc I have my Xbox 360 connected to my PC wirelessly. I had it set up so that I could view my vieos, etc., that were on my PC with no problems. Most are on an external drive. A week or so ago I shut off my external drives to let everything cool down, and now my 360 won't recognize the external drives. It still gives me the option for any files on my internal HD, but the external ones do not show up in either the "Videos" section, or "Media Center".     - Problem viewing folders I tried to change the display settings in my 'preferences' or 'personalise' folder, clicking on a bigger resolution made the display too big for my screen but then reverted back because i could not confirm it. Since then any folder windows I open appear off screen. The start bar and programs such as internet explorer open fine on screen and maximise as normal, but all folder windows, recycle bin, control panel etc appear to open off screen. I've changed my start bar settings so i can access control panel by expanding folders in the classic way but i still cannot access my 'personalise' folder. i cannot thing of any other way to get it back to normal and I've only been using Vista for an hour.     - Running a 2nd OS with Vista Home edition (Windows 98?) I've lost a magazine I had that talked of having dual OS's. I'd like to put Windows 98 on my Toshiba laptop if it can be done.     - Windows Search Indexing will not index When I go to indexing options only 17 objects are indexed even though I've been using the computer for hours. I tried to do a rebuild but nothing is happening. For instance, in Outlook the search is not working and it says I have 9850 objects still to index. Any idea how to fix this?     - I finally got CHKDSK to run on reboot. How to troubleshoot the problem. I had corruption on my hard drive and couldn't get CHKDSK to run on reboot. I finally found what was preventing CHKDSK from running on reboot. It's so hard to diagnose I wanted to document how to troubleshoot it here in case anyone else has the same problem. To troubleshoot CHKDSK does not run on reboot: 1. Set a System Restore Point 2. Run msconfig 3. select 'Boot' tab 4. check "Boot log" and "OS boot information" 5. reboot. See what it says during boot. 6. after boot, check log file C:\WINDOWS\ntbtlog.txt (or something similar to that, such as ntbootlog.txt) 7. One (or more) of these drivers being loaded is causing CHKDSK to say, "Cannot open volume for direct access." Stop these drivers from loading until CHKDSK works again. Figure out which one (or ones) is causing the problem. 8. Pick a driver to disable (e.g. elrawdsk.sys) 9. Run Regedit 10. Search for that driver (elrawdsk.sys) under key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services 11. Under that driver's registry entry, set 'Start' to 4 The service start methods & values are: 1. (unknown) 2. Automatic 3. Manual 4. Disabled 12. Set CHKDSK to run on reboot: a. Right-click on the C: drive b. Properties c. Tools (tab) d. "Error checking. This option will check the volume for errors." click 'Check Now..." e. select "Automatically fix file system errors" (checkbox) f. 'Start' g. "Windows can't check the disk while it's in use. Do you want to check for hard disk errors the next time you start your computer?" select 'Schedule disk check' 13. Reboot. See if CHKDSK runs during the reboot. 14. Repeat until you find the offending service(s). In my case there were two drivers causing the problem: 1. elrawdsk.sys "The process RawDisk Driver. Allows write-access to raw disk sectors for user mode applications in Windows 2000, belongs to the software ElRawDisk by EldoS Corporation." (I probably installed a trial version of Crypto4, and the uninstaller didn't remove this file.) 2. HMFAxCore826fcf267a04f6fadfb619829081c960.sys Digitally signed by Eltima Software, and used by another 3rd party virtual volume encryption program I was trying out. References: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555484 (Unable to run CHKDSK) http://www.file.net/process/elrawdsk.sys.html Since there are well over 100 drivers that get loaded on boot, and most are fine, I'll append here a list of drivers which are not the problem and do not prevent CHKDSK from running. This will narrow down what drivers to test disable. These drivers load on my Vista Home Premium and CHKDSK runs OK on reboot. I've used Windows built-in Defragmenter and cursed it for how slow it can be and how clumsy not to mention all the files it skips over. I've paid for Disk Keeper and others and found them to be wanting too. UltraDefrag v1.3.4 seems superior in every way. You can't beat free and it is fast. I just finishing up running it on a moderately fragmented large (750GB) drive, total time 2 hours 6 minutes. You can either run from a command prompt or get the often appreciated graphical display of clusters being moved around. Runs in background so doesn't interfere with what else you're doing. Written in C it seems much faster than many others. Works with all popular versions of Windows, both 32 and 64 bit. When I open Programs & Features in the control panel, the system crashes.
It takes slightly longer to crash when I open it in safe mode.

It is very annoying not to be able to uninstall programs, etc.

The window does nothing, the system freezes and the only way to recover is to
turn the computer off. Ctrl-lt-Delete doesn't work.

So, yes, I meant what I said that the system crashes.
