In the system tray in Windows XP there was a modem icon that lighted up when
data was being transmitted or received. It really helped with a dialup
connection - being able to see if the connection was active or not.

In Vista, the modem icon is static and doesn't show anything other than the
fact that there is an active connection. Does anyone know of a workaround
to get an **activity** icon that works like the good old XP one?

I made the change, but now I forget where I found the place to do it.

I'll get back.

GOT IT!

Right click the connection icon... choose to TURN ON ACTIVITY
ANIMATION.

Thanks, Nonny. But doing this doesn't seem to change the icon on the lower
right tray. When I open up a modem status window, the activity animation is
changeable in the way you describe, but the icon in the tray doesn't seem to
do anything but sit there.

That's how I got it to work.

Have you logged off than back on since trying? I don't recall if I
had to do that or not.
