    - how do I remove nginx on my windows vista laptop I run my laptop at work and the big LAN guys monitor various things that could be suspect. Today I was told that nginx is running on my laptop's IP, occasionally spiking, and making them nervous. I run Windows Vista Home addition and I don't need a server on it. I have been reading that nginx is a web servrer, like apache. Which is all fine and good but I don't know how it got on my laptop, and I don't know how to get it off. Perhaps it installed with some other application? My work thinks it may be spam, adware, malware, or otherwise malicious. If anyone knows how I can remove this please let me know. I've spent the last couple hours on google and all I can find about nginx is that it's a web and mail server, I can't find what apps might use it, and how I can remove it.     - Vista Boot issue Hi, We have two identical Vista machines (hardware wise). They are running Vista Corp 64bit. When one of them boots, it sits at a black screen before the login. Sometimes it will sit here for 2 minutes, sometimes 15mins, depends. No hdd activity, no error logs, no nothing. SP1 has been installed and still no joy. Any ideas?     - unable to burn data disks, event id: 51 running vista home premium (without the sp1 because it killed my computer). this problem just started. i have burned numerous dvd data disks up until a few days ago. audio cds and data cds are burning without a problem, but every time i try to burn a dvd data disk (using wmp 11 or explorer) it fails. when using windows explorer, it starts burning then says an error has occurred. wmp gives me the error C00D10DA. in both instances the event viewer reports a warning as event id: 51, "an error was detected on device\Device\Cdrom0 during a paging operation."     - Vista 64 problems I currently dual-boot Vista 32-bit Home Premium and Vista 64-bit Ultimate, both OEM versions. I have no problems with the 32-bit installation. I was counting on SP1 to solve two problems with the 64-bit installation but it did not. Problem 1: My DVD/RW disc (NEC DVD+-RW ND-3650A) will not read or write discs. Device Manager reports no problems with the drive but it will not read a disc and when I try to access it with Windows Explorer, Explorer freezes. Problem 2: Internet Explorer freezes for no apparent reason. This is not the same problem I have seen posted here. I get no error message - it just freezes when a link is clicked. I must use Task Manager to close it. Under My PC, properties, on the part of the evaluation, it is missing and the processor/ram are "Not availables" 2. The bottom right network icon is not updated.     - Can't View My Documents from Enclosure I have a new laptop and I connected it to an enclosure that has my old hard drive. When I go to windows explorer in Vista, I'm not able to see my old "My Documents" folder, which I think was located at "C: \Documents and Settings\My Documents". I can't even find any files that were in that folder using "Search" on the entire drive. However, I can see other files that were saved outside of that "My Documents" folder. Any ideas why this is happenning? One thing I left out is that my old computer crashed. When I tried to start it, the following error came up: Error Message: Windows Could Not Start Because the Following File Is Missing or Corrupt: \Winnt\System32\Config\Systemced I didn't have the repair disk to fix the problem above, so I decided that I'd just transfer my old files to my new computer.     - Quick Reference Guides When I turn a Vista PC over to one of our users, I would like to give them a quick reference guide. While I plan to have some training sessions, when actually faced with Vista for the first time, it can be a little overwhelming, espieically for the ones who are not too good with PC's to begin with.     - Outlook 2007 Meeting Reqeust My default calendar view is week. When I get a meeting request, there's a handy 'view in calendar' button. This opens my calendar in a new window in day view BUT when i view my calendar again it has now changed to the day view too. Opening a meeting request's 'view in calendar' window changes my calendar default from week to day. I can live with the meeting request opening in day mode but can anyone tell me how to prevent it from changing my default calendar view? Thanks.     - DVD Drive Ownership Blocked Hi, I have two Acer desktop computers with Vista Business SP1 they both have blocked security permissions on the DVD Drive. There is a crossed out circle on the icon, and I cannot access any discs from the drive (it opens empty). "Access is denied" when I try to access it through the command prompt. In the Security Properties of the drive the Current Owners is "Unable to display current owner". I am unable to add a member or group to the ownership there. Is tells me "Unable to set new owner on DVD RW Drive (E:). Access is denied". I'm accessing all this through the built-in Administrator account, and have opened the command prompt as Administrator. *I have been able to get in through Safe Mode in the Administrator account, but still have been unble to find a way to open this up for users and admins.     - Vista SP1 conflict??? I am running Vista Home Premium with SP1 on an HP Media Center PC. After a regular install of Delorme Street Atlas USA 2008 the program was fine. Now after SP1 (the only recently installed software) the title screen briefly flashes after double clicking the destop icon but the program does not run. I have tried running as Administrator and have followed their suggestion to uninstall and reinstall with Selective Startup and with cleared Startup Items.     - windows.old cannot be deleted... Hi. I reinstalled Vista (x64 ultim., in Italian) upon a previous installation, then another time, 'cause the previous one went bad (drivers' issues; black screen); so I've got "windows.old" and a "windows01.old" folders. I easily deleted the latter, then I rebooted and tried to delete the former. Thus I hit "DEL", and deleted the folder (some 10 gb). Thereafter I rebooted, but... windows.old is still there on the root! Thus I tried to delete it, but the prompt said (I approximate a "translation" from italian to English) "impossible to find the item; it is no more present in c:. please check the item's path and try again" OMG! But how! I see it! It is still there! What can I do please? I want to remove it at all costs; it is like a challenge, 'cause I feel very frustrated that I have installed a OS behaving such a way!     - .pps files I am using Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. I have not subscribed to Microsoft Office. My problem lies with opening .pps files. It interrupts the process by asking for a Product Key. When I decline and get the slide show back it has lost the sound. I have installed the Windows 97 Power Point Viewer and selected it as the default program but the problem remains. I have even gone to deleting Microsoft Office completely to no avail. How may I remove this Product Key request so that I may use the 97 viewer on .pps file without interruption?     - Weird Virtual PC behavior I have Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 installed on my Vista machine. However, if I go to Start, Programs and select Microsoft Virtual PC, nothing happens. Well, that's not strictly true. The logo flashes on screen for a second or two, and there's a presence on the taskbar. But if I click on the Virtual PC item on the taskbar it just disappears. However, if I double-click on the .vmc file the program opens fine. This is a problem because I can't seem to change the setting for my chosen virtual machine. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Virtual PC but that didn't solve it. It worked fine up until a couple of days ago. Anyone any thoughts?     - Control Panel doesn't show up in Vista SOLVED Since yesterday I had this problem accessing the Control Panel in Vista, the only thing I changed to the system was adding a Hauppauge TV Card. What would happen is that when you clicked on Control Panel nothing would be visible where the categories would normally appear, and sometimes it would load blank and immediately quit.     - Why does 4GB RAM only show as 3GB? I know that when using 32-bit Vista you can't expect to see all 4GB of installed RAM but I was under the impression that you should see between 3.1 and 3.5GB.     - Will not go to sleep anymore I have a Dell Vostro with home premium for about a month now. Sleep and hybernate mode worked fine.
