    - Login process has failed to create the security options Hello all, This is my first post and I realise the topic has been addressed already. However, the relevant threads are closed (incidentally, I'd love to know why) and from what I can tell, no one's got to the bottom of this problem despite a flurry of recent correspondence on the subject. I have a new laptop (weeks old only) and its my first experience with Vista (Premium). Today, although I've not changed the configuration or added or removed any software, my screen is randomly and unexpectedly going pale and although the cursor moves, nothing else is responding. Eventually, the screen goes black and after further delay this message appears: "*Login process has failed to create the security options*" The system does not respond to CTL-ALT-DEL. The only way to shut down is to power off. On restart (apart from the usual warnings and suggestions that I start in Safe Mode following a forced shutdown), everything works fine again for awhile, then the problem re-occurs. I've been studying the Web all morning and there's been a rash of this problem starting just a few months ago (there are few, if any reports before that). This is very suspicious therefore. In most forums two main options are routinely offered - first, that it is related to hard disc failure and second that it is related to anti-virus software. Neither is definitive however. In fact, most people are still reporting that the problem is NOT fixed, which is why I am surprised that threads relating to it are closed. Does anybody know what's going on, or the real solution?     - Offline files sync Vista Business, fresh install, new Dell Latitude D630 Core2Duo 4GB of RAM. I setup Offline Files to sync a part of a network share at work, so I could easily work on files while at home and have it sync when I got back into the office. It sort of worked for a few days, but always seemed to think the connection was offline unless I rebooted. When I rebooted it worked until I left the office, then it was permanently offline until I rebooted in the office again. Three weeks ago it became totally useless and will NEVER go online and sync the files anymore. At this point I just want to remove it like it never existed, because I cannot access that network share anymore. It always shows the local copy (stale) and it's always in the disconnected state. I can't get to other branches of the share either. How do I remove all traces of the Offline Folder so I can access the network share again? Thanks. Unless you've been living in a cave the past couple weeks you know what a serious world wide financial crisis we're in. Ringmaster is home, I need to get a Fucking Job". So the Mother went to work so she wouldn't have to see the Fucktard Ringmaster when she came home. This is because Ringmaster was always drunk, Ringmaster was always insulting everyone on the Internet. Thousands and thousands of insulting posts going to Dr. Laura and Rush Limbaugh forums. Users were almost afriad to respond because they were blasted by Ringmasters disgusting rants. We'll leave the complex paper shuffling out of this discussion since it is too complex to explain in a newsgroup, so basically we'll just say Ringmaster started to lose braincells by the billions. There are almost a 1,000 publicly posted messages on the vista general forum. Under government regulations as well as generally accepted rules of posting, most anything goes. But in recent history, with the forum being upset by the lunatic Ringmaster, the Government just might step in to help stop the flood of idiot postings by Ringmaster and his group of clowns. Several flies in the ointment. The big bullies, especially Ubuntu pundits use excessive language. That's where they increase their bullying power by posting shit posts after shit posts for every legitimate post posted. Obviously things are starting to go bad and they can go bad fast.     - Second time around - Vista webserver access Please accept my apologies if I have cross posted this question inappropriately. I had this problem solved first time around but the solution evades me second time around. I needed to reinstall Vista when I made a mistake constructing a RAID storage array. (It works great now.) I wish to make my web server page(s) available to the Internet. At this point, I can access the webpage with URL http://127.0.0.1/ but with http://192.168.0.100/ I get a Gateway Timeout error. First time around I set up virtual web server on my router so I'm sure that still works. I've done every thing I thought I did first time around. Thanks in advance for help. In April, research showed that Vista uptake among businesses was slow during 2007, although a quarter of businesses said they planned to upgrade in 2008. The main reason given by Tif members for not moving to Vista was a lack of business requirement to do so. Meanwhile, Microsoft's latest browser, Internet Explorer 7, is having a similar battle with its predecessor, IE 6, with a fifth of respondents saying they're not yet interested in the newer version of the application.     - Slow transition from one HDD to another License Issue I am running a 16 MD cache with Ultimate and want to rebuild a new HDD - same Vista license - with a 32 MB cache. I like to do it a bit at a time and get confident with the new set up before making the transition full tine. It is an income producing machine so it needs to be correct. How can I use my old set up in the interim while building a new set up with the same license. Eventually the old set up will get reformatted and wiped out completely.     - Folder Options I am using VISTA Home Premium with SP1 What steps do I need to follow in order that each time I open a folder, it always shows my shortcut as ICONS medium rather than just a list of each file under that particular folder. I reviewed folder options and thought I had selected the correct option, however after I go to VIEW and select ICONS medium and close the folder and reopen it again it changes back to the LIST view. I installed XP first then Vista, set up a dual boot, but now I want to remove Xp, is it possible to remove XP, and make the "D" (which is a partition of a 360 gig drive) the "C" part of the drive, what I am trying to do is keep vista without having to re-install and all the setting up that comes with it.     - AVI & WMV thumbnails missing All AVI and WMV files display an icon rather than a thumbnail image. JPG photos etc are all OK. I think this is a codec issue as the icon displayed changed when I swapped from CCCP codecs to K-Lite.     - What would you wish to be improved in the next version of Windows Personally, I think Microsoft should spend more time improving Windows Explorer than any other softwares included in Windows. It looks like as new versions of Windows come out, Microsoft is showing off brand new bundled applications for example the Sidebar, DVD Maker, Windows Picture Gallery or something for Vista. Actually there are many good or better softwares that can replace them. Many of them are even freewares. See Picasa for example. But Windows Explorer, it cannot be easily replaced, and most of the time, we are dealing with Windows Explorer. Making good application is what other companies are to do, what Microsoft should do is to improve the OS. So I hope Microsoft would put more and more functionalities to Windows Explorer. Of course those should be able to be turned on and off in order not to confuse novice users. Some improvements I can think of are, 1) Queuing file move/copy operations: this will be useful if you need to copy many files to a slow medium like a flash memory drive. Currently, you can start copying with multiple files are selected, but once it has started, there's no way to add new files to copy to the operation. And, if you commit another copying, it will be started promptly rather than being queued, thus causing both copying operations to be slow. 2) Remembering speed displaying status : I need to unfold it each and every time to see the copying speed. 3) Pausing file copy operations: when copying a big file, the computer may become very slow, you need to do something right now quickly but you don't want to cancel the copying and start it from the beginning again. 4) Quick toggle buttons on the Explorer toolbar for showing hidden and system files: these days, many files could be created hidden. This could also be some security issue. But changing the setting is not easy, and you don't want to see the system files all the time, it's ugly. 5) "Open command prompt here" for the context menu : now that TweakUI is unavailable for Vista. 6) "New folder" context menu, instead of New -> move the mouse -> Folder. 7) Remove Internet Explorer history from Windows Explorer address bar : annoying, now that Windows Explorer cannot host Internet Explorer but launch a separate process. 8) Hiding file extensions by default can be deceptive and confusing.     - Vista Search Contacts Outlook 2007 Fails again OK, I know this is a big problem, and all the responses lead everyone down the usual path of reindexing, repairing ost, pst files and to no avail. I'm posting under Vista...although this could apply under XP and the Office Forums....Its really an indexing issue tied to Outlook contacts Turning off indexing, although slower, seems to be the only fix. I had this problem on XP with Office 2007 and on my clean build of vista SP1 w/outlook 2007 (now 1 month old). I've tried all the tricks...its just totally unreliable to depend on. I am the network manager/top admin, and if I'm frustrated...just imagine..... I'm am greatly fearful that once Vista is further deployed with outlook 2007 in our enviroment, our help desk is going to be overwelmed, and the customers are going to hate Vista and Office 2007 more than they already do. Customers are not going to tolerate having to re-index the computer over and over. As for patches...yes...completely up to date...lets not go there.... Microsoft...needs to find a solid fix to this. My contacts are up on the Exchange 2007 server, not in a local pst,ost. Perhaps this is key. The tools/options/search are set to index the mailbox. This is a laptop, perhaps the computer is too busy during the day to complete the indexing and disconnected at night when less busy. All my contacts sync well with my smartphone and laptops outlook 2007 client. This is a great feature, but totally unreliable. What is the REAL Fix????...( lets not suggest the obvious anymore!) Why my Vista HP automatically goes to stand-by mode after some minutes when
defrag process or download.. are performing? Isn't it a little bit strange?

I know you can set the stand-by timeout (i.e. 15 minutes), the hybernation
timeout (i.e. 30 minutes) and so on but with my XP if defrag is in progress
no stand-by is executed! And this is okay..

Any idea?!

Sure and settings say after a certain time stand-by is automatically
performed. I know, it's right but what I can' understand is why Vista
considers my PC without activity even if it's downloading something from the
web.. and for this it decides to perform stand-by.
