What a stupid article. Anything to get a buzz headline. Look at the
source of their "survey'!
Pathetic!

The first problem with this article is
"But even the offer of free support for using installing Vista Service Pack
1 (SP1) and tools to lower implementation cost, the user response has been
one of stony indifference."

Support from Microsoft for their Service Packs have always been free.

Gee, SP1 has been available for what - 2 whole weeks? Plus, not even
everyone CAN get it yet.

Yet we already have lame articles proclaiming it to be DOA! What did you
expect - 800 million users all to switch simultaneously?

Remember folks - over 100 million sold. Double OS X's 7 year share in 1
year. Someone must be using it somewhere!

I wonder if the same whiners will be here a year from now, when Vista is
around 35% share (and XP around 55%), still proclaiming "Vista is a bust!"?

But how many are running?

Because it is more like Microsoft Tax on PCs, we will never know the number
and it is unlikely Micro$oft will ever come clean on real hard numbers of
how many get reformatted with XP or other.

And yes, I suspect they quietly know. Each time your PC goes for an update
check there goes the CPU-ID....pretty easy to get some rough numbers I
suspect. And I bet the numbers make ME look like a success.

People that are so ignorant like you really make me mad.

Vista was not bought by consumers by clear choice.

A) Sold by force (especially true in the first months you couldn't get a
PC with XP on it, even now many models have only Vista (yuk))
B) And sold by ignorance, since people presumed the new version of windows
would be better. Many don't even know that a new windows is out so they
get whatever is given to them.

There is no bigger whiner than a whiner who wants people to stop
insulting vista.
Its not gonna stop. In fact criticism is on the rise since after seeing
that SP1 solves only a few problems the big bashers will step in.
People who were waiting to see if SP1 would clean up vista will now
unleash their vile towards this pathetic operating system.

Either get used to it, or stop whining, or continue whining but
acknowledge you are doing it.

Its all about psychology. People follow what the masses are doing. If
word gets out that everyone is avoiding vista and no one is buying it,
then even less will buy it. Thats why Microsoft NEEDS to continue lying
and misleading the consumers. I bet they did the same with windows ME,
that really was ripped and replaced with windows98 99% of the times.
I'm sure then never mentioned that! They only stated forced sales
numbers on new computers mostly. But if you even consider that there is
a natural growth of computer sales each year, the vista numbers even are
even more pathetic.

I don't know why losers- whiners like this Bob Clamball come here..
but they really piss me off with their ignorance.

Actually, with my MS Vista experience really done. I come here because of
the Bob Camballs. Seriously. I am here to spread the word of alternatives
and to debunk the mindless BS and FUD from the MS Brown Shirts. Some are
liars, some are just plain stupid and uninformed sheep. But they do mislead
the public with their FUD war on Linux/UNIX.

And I am feeling kind of ripped off at Vista. I have run MS-DOS 2.0 through
to Vista. What a disappointment Vista is.

But we are reaching people this time, as many more feel the same way. I am
really surprised too that this time businesses are coming around and openly
chastising the MS FUD.

Pretty pathetic actually. Want to overlay W95 or XP over that so we can
compare adoption rates?

Given Vista is essentially bundled MS-Tax that is a pathetic adoption rate.

Care to show us those charts?

I expanded it to 2 years, looks like MacIntel has gone for 0.08% to 4.39%.
A staggering 5487% growth rate over 2 years!

But that chart is cooked:
"We use a unique methodology for collecting this data. We collect data
from the browsers of site visitors to our exclusive on-demand network of
live stats customers."

I would like to see googles take on the numbers. I wish they would publish
them. Maybe someday they will.

Oh, after hours of reading, patching and SP1, I got it running to my
marginal expecttions. But it is a resource pig.

I bought it wanting to see for myself. I have heard from others how bad it

No wonder it is so slowly being adopted. Force feed by MeSayso Corp and the
adoption is pretty bad considering major retailors don't offer alternatives
on their main line consumer machines for over a year now.

Yep. I feel ripped off. I buy a machine, not low end either, 8GB of RAM.
Now to go back to XP x64 to use it, I have to let MS double dip me for a
second but useable OS?

Yes, I have an alterior motive, want to let others know they should consider
telling the PC vendors, ship them XP or don't ship at all. People deserve a
choice, not the MeSay Corp tow line because some executive can't admit they
screwed up over hyping Vista.

Did you figure that out on your open source calculator? It's actually a
5,387% growth rate.

So why is OS X Intel's 0% to 4.5% growth in TWO years "staggering", but
Vista's 0% to 13% growth in ONE year is "pathetic"? Nearly TRIPLE the
growth in HALF the time!!

Gee, could it be that you have some kind of agenda? Have blinders on?
Just Plain Stupid?

It's all just part of the anti MS/Vista/Windows crusade that has been going
on for years. Have to keep up the FUD that Vista is "doing badly" despite
all solid evidence to the contrary.

Nope, got it right from their web site. Chart was tainted from the start.

First off, I know from other sources Linux is doing quite well in places
like India, Pakistan, France, Germany, Japan and China. In fact, many
believe Microsoft deliberately ignores license infringements in these areas
to keep up market share. As well as price fixing with a price for them, and
a different price for us. But even so, if you look at companies like
Lenovo, HP, Dell and others they openly sell Linux as the native OS on a big
share of their shipments in these growing countries. Yet, never gets
recognised? Visit any Chinese site, they all render correctly without MS
extensions with Linux/Firefox.

I would still like Google to publish it's results. Google is truly as
global as it gets, they could tell you if it was Linux/MS-Windows IE/Firefox
or both with a IP map of the world. And not any under the table deals with
MS to get....would love to see that data. And I am pretty sure they look at
this data.

In the end, you will be assimilated. This isn't the first time the dominant
OS got turfed. Will not likely be the last. It all starts with the first
crack, and Vista is a gapping crack.

You know how? Where are the numbers? The only numbers available show
Linux below 1%.

What is hard to understand is how you manage to breathe with your head so

Where was it for sale? It went on sale to the public in January 2007!
You are completely, flat out, full of shit, lying here!

Whereas Apple has a 100% Apple-Tax rate on all Apple PCs sold in the whole
world! What's your point again?

>that is the best Microsoft can do against Apple is keep up?

Keep up? 3 times the installed base in half the time? How is that
"keeping up". Apple WISHES they could keep up with Vista.

Again, why is OS X Intel's 0% to 4.5% growth in TWO years "staggering",
but
Vista's 0% to 13% growth in ONE year is "pathetic"? Nearly TRIPLE the
growth in HALF the time!!

You still haven't answered this. You are spinning so fast you apparently
can't see how stupid that statement looks.

Some reading for you:

http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/osrc/article.php/3687616

http://www.linux.com/feature/25221
(I really like the 1.7% is paid shipments only, most don't pay)

When reading this take the figure of 200M.
http://www.sun.com/smi/Press/sunflash/2003-11/sunflash.20031117.3.xml

Now, if Linux is only 0.6 percent, that would make about 5 billion billion
PCs since 2003/04, something is clearly wrong - most people can't afford
that for starters. I will not even get into what OLPC ships.....and is
planning to ship.

Now if 0.6% is for Redmond Washington, I agree. MS developers often don't
know hope to deal with a core dump.

What do you not understand, end of Jan 2007, the stats go for 13 months.

Apples stats went for 24 months.

Do the math. They didn't have to tell the public what they will run on
commodity PCs and are more expensive. Yet did pretty good.

Apple makes the hardware and software as one product under their own brand.

Microsoft relies on bundling from the major suppliers and does not brand nor
make any of the PCs. Anti-trust lists this as bundling. An
anti-competative monopolistic practice.

But then again, I was not a MS sheep......

Hey, buy your own numbers, from 4% rise in 2 years, right out of MS share,
and now back in Best Buy selling pretty hot. Probably 6% by now....

And cooked Linux numbers, hey, MS has only one way to go....

MOOXML, looks like it is vapor too.

And no one has credibly said what Vista can do that Linux cannot.... Post
the FUD at the top, this thread is getting stale, like MS-Vista.

The same place that dopey 7 character gets his numbers. Nowhere. Didn't you

You haven't been around the business very long have you? THAT same ole song
and dance has been said since Windows started shipping preloaded on
machines. You smacktards were whining about it then, and you still doing it
today. And yet you STILL haven't gotten above a 1% market share, WITH a free
product. What does that tell you?

Nope. The most pathetic are you smacktards whining. If anyone disagrees with
you, they are spreading FUD, and are haters. What puerile tripe.

Actually Vista worked great from jump with me. SP1 just improved some speed
in a couple areas. What you retards just cannot seem to grasp, no matter how
many times it is pointed out to you, is the fact that people that come here
with problems do NOT represent the user base as a hole. If YOUR contentions
were true, that would mean everyone in the Linux, XP, or Mac groups
represent theirs. But darn, that just wouldn't support your smacktard
agenda, now would it. Therefore you conveniently ignore it.
