Help!!! Quick Launch Toolbar Broken...
Some how or another the Quick Launch Toolbar is broken in my Vista Ultimate.
When I right click on the start bar and choose toolbars/quick launch nothing
happens. I have looked in the directory: C:\Users\Robert
Barnett\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. There is a folder
called Quick Launch there with my icons in it, however it will not show up
when I choose that toolbar.
How can I fix this? I have tried restoring from a restore point, however it
looks like this happened long ago because my oldest restore point won't fix
it.

CD's created on Vista not readable on XP
If I download a file from Vista to a cd, it cannot be read on XP. Also
anything I create on XP can't be recognized on Vista. Is their some type of
setup that I need to do?
Disks just show up as blank on both machines, but show data if on their own
machine.

Sleep often crashes Vista (Dell D630, 64-bit Ultimate)
I just recently moved from a D610 to a D630 and decided to go Vista 64-bit.
When put the computer into Sleep mode (Hybrid Sleep is turned off by the
way) here is what happens:
1. Screen goes blank immediately
2. Hard drive activity for a minute or so
3. Sometimes it goes into sleep mode but usually it just turns off
In the case when it just turns off, which is most of the time, then I when I
turn it back on it prompts to boot into Safe mode if I want to, indicating
windows didn't shut down properly.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this and figure out what might be causing

Vista service pack 1 fails to install
I have attempted to install Vista SP1 using download and also manually. All
attempts fail and I get error code 80070570. I'm attempting install on a
Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.
I spent over 2 hours in a live chat with Microsoft tech support and they
couldn't install it either. Now someone else (the 3rd technician) is
supposed to call me tonight.
We unintalled PC-cillin, turned off all services. Nothing helped.

Do Not Show Thumbnails in "open" and "save as" dialog boxes
I have been searching for a way to change Vista's default behavior in "open"
and "save as" dialog boxes since I started using the operating system. It is
very frustrating. Vista's default view in dialog boxes seems to be the
thumbnail view. You can change it inside each box when it opens, but closing
and re-opening the box restores the default view. This is extremely
frustrating if you like the detailed list view instead. I do not want to see
thumbnail views of files most of the time. Is there a way to change the

Windows Backup
Vista Business 32bit on a 3 machine network. The other two machines are
running WinXP Pro W/SP3.
I want to back up the Vista machine to a USB HD on one of the XP machines.
Vista's backup utility keeps telling me:
"The network share could not be accessed for the following reason:
You need Full Control permission for the network share. Make the user a
co-owner of the share with Full Control. The network share cannot be on a
computer running Windows XP Home. (0x8100002A)
Please ensure that the network location is valid."
Now, the USB drive is shared fully, it is a mapped drive on the Vista
machine. The Vista machine can read/write to the USB drive in normal usage.
The network share is not on a Windows XP Home machine.
WTF is wrong with MS? This doesn't need to be this damned difficult. It

Apart from the problems of software compatibility ie. Much of the
software I use will not run on it and the blurry fonts even with anti
alias off it's been reasonably stable. Currently I wish I had bought
64bit XP as the problems, limitations and 'auto' features in Vista are
very irritating and hard to turn off. A few days ago I decided to
increase the size of the partition containing Vista, since then it has
refused to boot up at all, either to normal or safe mode. The boot
process begins then a blue screen is displayed with the following text:
'If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart
your computer.
If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer, remove any newly installed hard
drives or
hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly

Windows explorer crashing
I just saw another post with the same problem I've had for a month or so. I
thought I would elaborate a bit more.
Currently using Windows Vista Business, sp1.
Windows Explorer, Not IE7, will put up an error message (Windows explorer
has encountered a problem and will restart). Blue screen comes on then
Windows Explorer immediately restarts. Any other program running, such as
IE7, Word, FoxIt Reader, will remaining running while Windows restarts in
the background. The whole reset takes about 3 seconds. The crash is
usually associated with doing "file work", such as moving or renaming files
within folders. Any operations or renaming, etc. that immediately precede
the crash are completed correctly.
I have removed any context menu add-ons but that seems to make no
difference. This is not hardware related.
I was wondering if Windows Explorer can be reinstalled but downloading its
exe file from somewhere. Since my Sony laptop will only allow a complete
reinstall as per original factory specs, that is not an option.

Complete PC Backup error 80070079
I am running Ultimate on HP Blackbird. I purchased a Cavalry 500 GB external
HDD 6 months ago and everything worked fine. I could do both complete pc
backup and all files backup. Now, I can only do all files backup and get

Complete PC Backup error 80070079
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate on an HP Blackbird. I purchased a 500 GB
external HDD from Cavalry about 6 months ago (pre SP1) and had no problems
doing either complete PC backup or backup all files. Now I can still backup
all files, but cannot do a complete PC backup and get the above error code
(semaphore time out). The cable is fine, and I get the error with either
SATA or USB.
Cavalry has no device driver for the disk and relies on Vista, and like I
said, it used to work fine. A Google search shows some others have had the
problem, but no solution.
I burned a recovery DVD, but would like the convenience of using Complete PC
Backup just in case.

I had to photograph the BSOD to get this information becuase it whizzed
through it's physical memory dump in less than 3 seconds! Once the
machine is re-booted I can access Control Panel, Hard Disks, Printers &
some applications but as soon as I try to receive email (outlook 2003)
or connect to the internet it crashes - joy!
I've surfed to try and find some answers and come up with ideas but
nothing which is exactly the same as my error and no suggestions as to
how to fix this. One thread has suggested CA Security is the problem
(KmxCF.sys file) and yes, I'm running CA Security Suite 2008. I have
used this to run a virus and trojen check and come up with zero
problems, I have also checked for updates and mine is totally up to
date, as well as checking their site for details (none, as expected from
the CA site, they are useless at helping solve problems!)
Please, please can anyone help me - I'm now on the 8th BSOD today and
can't get to important work emails which I need to reply to. Help, help,
help please :confused:

Vista Brightness control stops working after resuming from sleep
I am using HP laptop dv6703. When windows vista(home premium) resumes after
sleep, Its brightness control stops working. It does not changes either with

Ever since I started using Vista, I have had a problem with Media Player not
opening. This is a new computer that came with Vista Home installed. I
found a solution requiring me to go into Command Prompt with these commands
which I have to do about once a week.
1. type regsvr32 jscript.dll and then press enter. you should get a
confirmation message.
2. repeat and type regsvr32 vbscript.dll and then press enter.
These have worked great until now. I recently did a Vista update and am
wondering if the update is causing the problem. Now when I try the command
prompts the first step works fine but I get the 0x80004005 error with the
second. I am very frustrated with Vista and Media Player. Can this be fixed
or is there some other program that will play my video files?
I would greatly appreciate any help. All I have seen so far related to this
error is e-mail. I am using McAfee anti-virus software.

Wireless internet - can't download anything
Hello,
I recently purchased a new notebook laptop with Windows Vista on it and also
got wireless internet, but I can't download anything. For example, I can't
download images I've recieved through e-mail. The save as box appears but
when the download is complete, the box disappears and nothing is downloaded
onto the laptop. This happens everytime I try downloading something from the
internet.

I have 174GB of 'unallocated' space on my 1TB HDD. The HDD has
partitions on it, plus the unallocated partition. I would like to mak
the unallocated partition into a 5th partition
Vista tells me that 'You cannot create a new volume in this unallocate
space because the disk already contains the maximum number o
partitions'

On Windows Vista, there are two good new applications, Windows Photo
Gallery and Windows Mail (not entirely new but new). But what confuses
me is that there are "very" similar applications such as Windows
"Live" Photo Gallery and Windows "Live" Mail. They are very, very
similar but the "Live" series provides slightly more features. For
example, there is "Create photo panorama" which is the sole reason why
I installed it while I have Windows Photo Gallery. I don't understand
why Microsoft keep both of them. Wouldn't it be much simpler and clear
if Microsoft make only one version of them, then embed them on Windows
Vista and let Windows XP users download freely from Windows Live site?

Taskbar, small issue
I have mytaskbar setup to always be on the top of other windows, but it
isn't. It did this a while ago, but I fixed it by simply checking and

I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Dell XPS M1530. I had some file
corruption which I fixed for the most part with running chkdsk among other
things. But I still get the error

loaded" when trying to load the Dell Transfer Agent.exe and
ECenter\EULALancher.exe. I've tried to uninstall microsoft.net framework 2.0
but it's not in my Add/Remove Programs list. When I try to just install the

it says the it's already part of the operating system.

Gears of War shuts down at load screen
GOW won't stay up. I've downloaded the patches, and still won't run. I have

I've tried downloading the latest nVidia drivers, but they won't load.
nVidia tells me that Gateway modified the card, so nVidia's drivers can't be
loaded. Gateway has nothing for me. I'm pretty sure it's the graphics
card/memory problem people are talking about, but I haven't been able to
solve it.

What Adam Albright is: A Fucktard
Invariably, first person detection of third person fucktardation is
immediately followed by denial, often verbally expressed, especially in the
form, "No one's THAT fucking stupid." This differs from the hypothetical
scenario of first person fucktardation detection in that it occurs.
Fucktards do not simply defy common sense, they are pathologically incapable
of recognizing the obvious, so even mirrors fail them. Or, more correctly,
they fail mirrors. So a fucktard is really Adam Albright.

everyone day after day, week after week, year after year.
There is a great difference between an idiot and a fucktard. For example, an
idiot might accidentally burn your stove with a grease fire. A fucktard will
burn not only your stove, but from putting their hand INTO the fire, they
will proceed to be lit and set your entire house ablaze. Should you suffer
the sympathetic misfortune of being at work when this happens, there is a
high probability that he will burn that, too. Essentially, a fucktard will
burn your life, and he will do so entirely by misadventure. He's that good.
While this must seem a staggering blow, it is important to consider that as
fucktardation is completely arbitrary in expression, a fucktard chef will
almost certainly burn down your home and himself before getting to your job

Adam Albright disorder is characterized by nonbizarre delusions (false
beliefs) that persist for at least 1 month, without other symptoms of
schizophrenia.
Adam Albright disorder is distinguished from schizophrenia by the presence
of delusions without other symptoms of schizophrenia. The delusions tend to
be nonbizarre and involve situations that could occur, such as being
followed, poisoned, infected, loved at a distance, or deceived by one's
spouse or lover.
In contrast to schizophrenia, Adam Albright disorder is relatively uncommon.
Onset generally occurs in middle or late adult life. Psychosocial
functioning is not as impaired as it is in schizophrenia, and impairments
usually arise directly from the delusional belief.
When Adam Albright disorder occurs in older patients, it is sometimes called
paraphrenia. It may coexist with mild dementia. The physician must be
careful to distinguish delusions from elder abuse being reported by a mildly
demented elderly patient. One way of diagnosing this disorder is the

Symptoms and Diagnosis
Adam Albright disorder may arise in the context of a preexisting paranoid
personality disorder. A pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others and

loyalty or trustworthiness of friends, a tendency to read threatening
meanings into benign remarks or events, persistent bearing of grudges, and a
readiness to respond to perceived slights, along with posting garbage in the

Several subtypes of Adam Albright disorder are recognized. In the erotomanic
subtype, the patient believes that another person is in love with him.
Efforts to contact the object of the delusion through telephone calls,
letters, surveillance, or stalking are common. People with this subtype may
have conflicts with the law related to this behavior. In the grandiose
subtype, the patient believes he has a great talent or has made an important
discovery. In the jealous subtype, the patient believes that his spouse or
lover is unfaithful. This belief is based on incorrect inferences supported
by dubious evidence. Physical assault may be a significant danger. In the
persecutory subtype, the patient believes that he is being plotted against,
spied on, maligned, or harassed. He may repeatedly attempt to obtain justice
through appeals to courts and other government agencies and may resort to
violence in retaliation for the imagined persecution. In the somatic
subtype, the delusion relates to a bodily function; eg, the patient believes
he has a physical deformity, odor, or parasite. Diagnosis largely depends
on making a clinical assessment, obtaining a thorough history, and ruling
out other specific conditions associated with delusions. Assessment of
dangerousness, especially the extent to which the patient is willing to act

Problems with Service pack 1
Hi,Since installing SP1 firefox(and IE) keeps freezing on me and then dying
all together.I could be browsing freely then the webpage will just freeze and
the only way back is to restart my pc.I have had to do a system restore twice
after installing SP1 and i have no problems without SP1,but once its
installed again the problems begin.
I`m using Vista home premium,really would appreciate any help as i have had

Print Servers w/ Vista
Hello:
I feel like a Dumb Bunny for asking this question, but I have spent hours
trying to get two different Vista machines to connect to two different
printers connected via an Airlink101 Print Server.
The print server is connected to a Lan which has Win2K and WinXP machines.
Everybody is happy with the print server except Vista. I can see the
printers just fine, but when I try to connect I get a "Windows cannot connect
to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and that
the printer is connected to the network."
If I cheat by typing in the printers name or IP address, I can actually add
the printer and even set it to default, but then it fails on print.
Am I missing something basic in my setups or is Vista and the Arirlink101
print server not friendly?
