When I try and bring my computer out of Standby the power light comes on the
fans start (not sure if the Hard drive spins up) but the monitor and all USB
devices do not start. I have all the latest XP updates and drivers and the
problem just started a few days ago out of the blue. I have tried everything
I can think of and would really appreciate some help.
Thanks. Rod.

You said, "I have all the latest XP updates and drivers ....".

Does this include SP3?

Is the power-on light on or off when attempting to come out of standby?

Sorry, but you have me confused. Is it standby or hibernation you are
trying to come out of.
The power on light stays on when in standby. You said it comes on. How (what
method) are you using to exit the condition the computer is in? Mouse
movement or keyboard depression? Power on button?

The Power light is Flashing to indicate it is in standby and when I press
the power button to bring it out of standby the light comes on and stays on
continuously (no Flashing) and the fans come on but the Monitor and USB
devices do not. Hibernation works fine as that is the mthod I am using until
I can get the Standby issue sorted.

What are your settings in control panel---power options---power schemes and
advanced tabs?
Normally to exit standby, an operator either moves the mouse or depresses a
key on the keyboard.
Both keyboard and mouse are set to 'Allow this device to bring computer out
of standby'
We are talking about a desk top aren't we?
The power on key brings it out of hibernation.
The power on key (if set) can be used to go into standby.
