I have posted earlier about my computer problems. My husband did switch
drives and cables and I was able to get Windows and my programs and files
back. Hallejah! However, they were only as current as my last backup.
(Believe me, I've learned my lesson on that. When everything is repaired, I
WILL back up!) But my Windows XP updates are way behind, of course. How do
I get them back? Also, my Word and Excel keep requesting a "virus scan" and
are trying to access a program that is no longer current. Should I uninstall
and reinstall Office (XP Version)? How do I get the updates for that? I'd
appreciate the help. Thank you.

Go to START then "Windows Updates" and you should be able to get all of the missing updates.

Reinstall the antivirus software you use to have and that should take care of the Word and Excel
requests.

Thank you for answering, Richard. I'm afraid I've torn the house apart but I
can't find the old antivirus software (Norton Antivirus 2006) - we probably
got rid of the disk when it expired. Do you have any other suggestions?

I have many, many updates to get. I also have very slow dial-up. It will
take me forever to download them one by one. Does anyone know - does
Microsoft sell a disk(s) with Service Pack 2 or 3?

Thanks for the help - I appreciate it.

Head over to Symantec's web site. Therem you will be able to find the
enhanced Norton removal tool. Run this and it sould remove all the
left-over entries for all Norton software and ACT! Then, you will
need to re-install a newer anti-virus system

Thanks for the help, Richard and smlunatick. I'm glad I don't have to
uninstall and re-install Office! Just a long, slow process back. But
appreciate your help! :=)
