Oh, boy, this is a wierd one . . .
I am running XP SP 2. Through Windows Explorer (or WSH, WMI, etc.), I
can rename a mapped drive so that it has a more meaningful name. I've
been doing this for years without any problem.
Starting recently (not sure when), after renaming my mapped drives, if
I open an image in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, doing so blows away
the new labels. I can see in Process Monitor that rundll32 (which is
running shimgvw.dll, i.e., the picture viewer) is going through the
drive mapping registry keys and deleting the _LabelFromReg key which
specifies the label.
Any ideas? I've checked on my coworkers' PCs and they are affected as
well. Virus scans do not flag anything.
Thanks,
Lee
