propsys.dll
Have a new one: seems to be a common problem, but I can't find a solution on
MS's website or on the Net generally.
Running XP SP2 on a Pentium 4, Norton SystemWork's WinDoctor turns up the
message: '"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Corel\Shared\Shell
Extension\PropSchemaReg.exe" cannot access a necessary file, "propsys.dll"'
Apparently this dll is supposed to reside in C:\Windows\System32\ but
doesn't. I must have let an uninstall program delete it as an "unused"
common file. Anyone have a clue how I can obtain a new one?

Ati Driver/Catalyst problems
My problem started right after I installed the Catalyst and driver suite for
my Radeon 9600. Unfortunately, I don't remember the version number, but it
was right before the most recent driver, which I have also downloaded in the
hope it would fix the problem.
After installation my screen has been refreshing strangely (hopefully
refreshing is the right word). I took a video of it which is the link below:

None of the time settings in Power Option or Display Preferences - screen

the times for monitor and h/d shutdown. I've also tried to set the times in

IE Internet Explorer opens multiple windows repeatedly
Every now and then, when I have Internet Explorer running, suddenl
multiple windows begin to open repeatedly. I don't think it's a troja
or virus because it isn't different ads, it's the same site over an
over. I have to shut down the computer to get it to quit. Sometime
they open so fast I just have to push the button to shut down, and on
other time they opened slowly so I could disconnect from the interne
and that stopped it. Because they are the same site (once it was for
site on the help page for an application I was running). This last tim
it was just a second window I had open for Google, and it was in th
middle of connecting when I closed the window, but it came back ove
and over, trying to continue to connect to Google.
I only had a similar problem years ago when I had Weatherbug and
figured out it was that application that was causing it. I got rid o
it and didn't have it again until now. I saw that there is a "fix" fo
it on the Weatherbug site now. So... what does that mean? How does tha
relate to my problem now? What is causing this so I can fix it? If I a
away from the computer and windows keep opening over and over, won't i
crash the computer after a while?
Help???

SP3: BSOD during first reboot
While rebooting after the initial installation of SP3 I got:
BAD_POOL_CALLER
0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000cd4, 0x0210000d, 0x8910b5e8)
This was well after the installation had completed, and well into my
userid logon sequence.
A second reboot fixed the problem. The BSOD said that it had taken a
dump. I can find this if anyone is interested.

Bug: XP refuses to open another window, tab or menu
Well this is the weirdest bug which has been annoying me for ages.
When I have been working on my computer for a while - and got quite a number
of windows or tabs open (usually internet explorer, but this fault applies to
refusing all new windows) - say 15 or something - and I have been opening and
closing widows or tabs for a few hours ...
... it then REFUSES to open another window, tab or short-cut menu. Unless I
close some windows or tabs. Then it will open a window or tab, but only the
one more; not 2 more. It seems to have a finite allowed number of windows or
tabs it will accept open, which number diminishes with time as the session
proceeds - and the number of windows it will allow open at the same time
diminishes with use.
So after a few hours you are only allowed maybe 5 windows or tabs and you
can't do your work !
My work around is to close all windows and start again or do a RESTART - a
real pain.
What a stupid bug! Anyone know how to fix it so that it doesn't do that any
more?

XP Home edition, pink screen after logon
Following a home-based normal boot up and selecting user, the screen goes
pink and the system just hangs. I have tried going in via safe mode but again
the system just sits there on a black screen with the words 'safe mode' at
the top.
I have tried going back to 'last known working configuration' but that has
no effect on subsequent boots.
I believe that this relates to an expired version of Kaspersky virus
protection software. This expired on 4/4/08 but was not noticed by the user.

When I finally get the right view, the right Common Tasks bar and the right

Checkdisk kiss of death
When I rebooted my PC today Checkdisk started scanning my drive and in
the process got frozen before ending. After another restart it appears
a message saying that Windows didn't start successfully, and it gives
me five options: three safe modes, last known good configuration, and
start windows xp normally.
In safe mode it begins listing files under
MULTI(0)DISK(0)RDISK(0)PARTITION(1)\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\... and it always
stops at GIVEIO.SYS. Bellow that shows the following message: "press
ESC to hold loading A347BUS.SYS". Pressing ESC or any other key starts
the system all over again.
Starting normally or last known good configuration it gets to the
Windows XP logo and then reboots by itself. I also tried booting with
the XP CD and pressing the repair option, but the setup says it didn't
find any hard disk drives installed on the computer. Next changed the
SATA cable but with no better results. Some hints on what to do next?
Any help would be much appreciated. Tag: Re: outlook express 6.0 could not function after installing WinXp SP3. Tag: 808204

Automatic sign-in to Messenger - problem
XP Home, SP2
Windows Live Messenger 8.1 (MSN Messenger).
Although I have the options checked to allow automatic sign-in when
Windows loads and to "remember me" (remember name & password), it does
not work, I have to manually open the program and enter my name &
password each time I want to use it. The problem started months ago
when I was using MSN Messenger 7. I have since uninstalled 7 and
installed 8, but the problem persists.
Out of curiousity, I tested Windows Messenger 4.7, and the same
problem occurs - automatic sign in does not work, and name & pw are
not remembered.
** I have two Windows user accounts, both Admin level accounts. This
problem occurs only for one of those accounts.
Because the problem exists in both messenger programs and only occurs
for one Windows user, I think the problem is within Windows itself
somewhere which is why I am not sending this to the MSN Messenger
group.

Triple-booting - which first?
I've been using WinXP Pro since it was first released and I'm very happy
with it. However, I have a requirement to learn about Vista and Linux so I
recently bought a 500GB hard drive and intend to partition it in the
following way: three partitions, each 50GB in size, one for XP, one for
Vista Ultimate and one for Linux (probably Ubuntu) with the remainder of the
disc probably split into either two or three partitions for music, photos
and user documents/data.
My question is, in what order do I install the operating systems, so that
when I power up the machine, I'm presented with the choice of which OS to
boot into?
Thanks,

Password problems..
Recently, my computer had some windows updates. I let them install and then
when I rebooted, Windows asked for a password. I am the only user on this
home computer so I did not ever set one. It won't let me log on at all.
I've tried entering nothing and everything I can think of. I've tried
rebooting into safe mode, and again it asks for passwords for Administrator
and myself.
I'm not a computer expert by a long run, but am hoping that someone might
have had the same experience and may have some help for this problem. Tag: Re: outlook express 6.0 could not function after installing WinXp SP3. Tag: 808121
MS-Windows Installer 3.1 Error
Hello,
I am running Windows XP SP2.
For several months my system received (downloaded) automatic updates
successfully.
Now when I get update notices, I get the following error:
"Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 Failed to Install"
I have not added or subtracted ANYTHING form the computer with this
message.
Can/will somebody tell me how to fix this problem???
Thank you,

why can't bootcfg find my Windows OS?
I had a hard drive crash on XP Pro and I'm trying to get everything up
again. XP won't start at all without the install CD. I need advice
about trying to boot into XP using my existing OS.
Previously I had three hard drives and I think the Windows
installation was on drive letter E: on hard drive 2.
Hard drive 1 (which crashed) contained C: and D:, but these were only
data partitions.
For some reason I think that Hard drive 1 (HD1) contained the boot
loader (and MBR?) which found the Windows installation on HD2.
When hard drive 1 failed, I think the Windows install wasn't in the
path to boot.
Here's how I tried to resolve the problem.
First, I removed the bad drive and verified that the other two hard
drives work (using an Ubuntu LiveCD). When I ran the XP Recovery
Console, the initial screen asked me to login to the administrator
account on c:\windows . I logged in successfully.
(I verified that c: corresponds to e: on what used to be HD2. C: is
the partition with windows installed).
The problem is that when I run bootcfg nothing seems to happen.
Running /list reveals nothing bootable; running /scan produces this
error message: "Failed to successfully scan disks for Windows
installations. This may be caused by a corrupt file system, which
prevents boot.cfg from successfuly scanning. Use chkdsk to detect any
disk errors."
I ran checkdsk; no errors. Before I ran bootcfg I ran both fixboot and
fixmbr without result. I noticed btw that in C:/windows there was no
boot.ini.
I'm on a 64 bit processor and I read somewhere that fixboot and fixmbr
isn't supported on 64 bit processors. Can you verify?
Is there anything else I can try? I find encouraging that recovery
console initially recognizes my Windows OS; why then is it unable to
make it bootable?
I will probably add Vista to the new HD I add, so I guess as long as
Vista can mount the drives, everything will be all right. But I would
really like to get XP running--(mainly to recover my previous settings
and some of the programs that I installed.
Otherwise I can just install XP and Vista on my new drive and forget
about the original Windows partition. But doesn't it seem strange that
Windows would recognize the Windows install at Recovery Console
originally and then be unable to use that knowledge to reconfigure
boot.ini? Any suggestions?

Seeking way to track all program / service execution
Is there a way to track / log the start and end of all program executions

All Incoming E-Mails Showing Gym Clip - As Attachments
I have Microsoft XP Professional with Outlook Express as my e-mail account.
For the last few days all incoming e-mails are showing the gym clip as
attachments with only one or two attachments out of approximately 10
e-mails. Is there something I can do to correct this?
Thanks,

IE7 won't connect
I just reinstalled Internet Explorer 7. Now I'm still unable to
connect. (Cable, XP Pro SP2)
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
Oh, here's something interesting: Firefox is my default browser, but
recently I've had major problems navigating at webites like Amazon and
Tower--text throughout the tops of the pages were blurry, and clicking
did not take me to new pages.
Opening it now, I see that they're clear!! So something in the IE 7
reinstallation must have fixed the Firefox problem. But it has not
fixed the IE problem--I still can't connect to the web.
I should have disabled Spybot; both of my last installations have
brought me Spybot questions about registry changes that I had trouble
answering: the first time I said do not allow. This time I said Do
allow.
What can be the problem with my IE7? Tag: Re: outlook express 6.0 could not function after installing WinXp SP3. Tag: 808048
Restore/reinstall
I have an HP Pavilion laptop. It has a restore partition and I have the
disks made from that. The reinstall puts EVERYTHING back like the day it
arrived. I like to reformat from time to time but geesh I hate having to
put all the junk programs back on. It takes me nearly as long getting
rid of the junk as it does to reinstall my own programs. Is there any
way to pull just the Windows XP Pro out of it. I don't want to buy
another XP just to have a clean one

Invalid directory?
I installed the latest java kit and cannot CD to the directory.
C:\Program Files\Java> dir
jre1.6.0_06
C:\Program Files\Java> cd jre1.6.0_06
Invalid Directory
I tried it with both a prepended and appended '\' but that didn't work
either. In WINDOWS I can see the folder, save to the folder, and even create
and access folders in the Java folder (where 'jre' resides).
This is a mystery... :/

XP Serious Error After chkdsk /f
Both of my XP systems are updated regularly, and when they were as SP2
machines, whenever I did a chkdsk /f command to clean up the disk, it always
knarls everything and and in addition to not cleaning up the errors on the
disk, the system reboots and recovers from a "Serious Error". The system
takes me to a page where it says I have a rogue device driver, which I do
not. All of my drivers are signed on both systems. Hardware failure is not
the culprit either, as both systems have newer drives in them. After
installing SP3, the situation is the same.
Why is this occurring? Tag: Re: outlook express 6.0 could not function after installing WinXp SP3. Tag: 808031
how do i access bluetooth capability
hi,
i am using Windows XP SP3 (on a macbook via VMware Fusion). I have a treo
750W that runs Windows Mobile 6.0. My macbook has bluetooth capability but i
have no idea how to use that to sync my treo with the windows side of my
machine. I have read a number of posts that suggest that if i go to control
panel or network connections, i should find "Bluetooth Devices" but there is
nothing there. there are also mentions of MS Bluetooth Stack but i have no
idea if i have that already or need to download it and if the latter then
from where.
Can someone please help? if you can dumb down the instruction for a lay
person, that would be terrific.
thanks so much. Tag: Re: outlook express 6.0 could not function after installing WinXp SP3. Tag: 808029
XP Service Pack 3 Installation Errors
Hi,
I decided that as XP Service Pack 3 was now available and I was
prompted to install via Update centre that I would do so on my Laptop.
I installed the version for single computers, not IT professional version.
Big mistake. After restarting computer, I found that I had lost all my
Network connections, and trying to re-install them did'nt work.
After about an hour trying to find fix for this problem, I decided to use
System Restore to go back to before SP3 installation. Thankfully this worked.
Has anyone else had this problem, and are there any fixes for this problem,
as everytning else worked O.K.
Cheers. Tag: Re: outlook express 6.0 could not function after installing WinXp SP3. Tag: 808021
Problems with online shopping baskets
Whenever I try to use an online shop such as amazon I can order the item but
then even though the baskets says the item is there when I continue to the

that it has completed it? I am at a loss. Tag: Re: outlook express 6.0 could not function after installing WinXp SP3. Tag: 808016

Can't Uncheck "Use DDE"
Using XP SP3, OE 6.00.2900.5512 (XPSP 080413-2105)
When I go to My Computer/tools/folder options/file types/(none) URL hyper
text transfer protocol/advanced/edit/use DDE, and uncheck the box I then
click OK/OK/close, but the box remains checked when I go back to it. The
apply button is grayed out. The same situation applies to URL hyper text
transfer protocol with privacy.
After installing SP3 I found that the only way to get the hyper links in
email messages in OE to work was to uncheck the DDE box. The problem is they
don't stay unchecked. Can someone help me correct this? Thanks.

SP3 in Add or Remove Programs panel.
After following all prescribed pre-downloading/installation requirements for
SP3 and applying Method 3 (Reset the registry and the file permissions) as
shown in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377 the installation went
without any problems - the system is running extremely well.
Start, Run *winver* indicates:-
MS WinXP Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp.080413-2111:Service Pack 3)
System Properties panel indicates:-
System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3
When opening the Add or Remove Programs panel "Windows XP Service Pack 3"
is listed, however on the right-hand side of the panel there is no
indication whatsoever with respect to the size and installation date of
this program (just a blank space).
Is this something to be concerned with?
FYI, Windows Resource Kit Tools - SubInAcl.exe is listed as size 0.36MB. Tag: Re: outlook express 6.0 could not function after installing WinXp SP3. Tag: 808003

usb mass storage and hibernate
XP Home, SP3, external 120gb hdd, USB connected via pcmcia card in notebook
computer.
Same 120gb hdd device in Vista, when I hibernate, turns off. This is good.
But when I hibernate in XP the device light stays on, and I thus must
disconnect the device manually.
Please be very specific with directions to assure the device will turn 'off'
(no green light) in hibernate in XP sp3.
That is having device turn off in hibernate other than using "Safely Remove
Hardware" first.

Hi,
In fact, I have email client which check mail every several minutes. After
installing xp sp3, it frequently ask me to compact my mails. This is a
serious bug.
