I recently purchased a Compaq laptop with XP Pro installed. All good, except
the mouse will not allow me to copy text within emails or from an html
page.... just get a + symbol and dotted area when I try to copy anything. Any
suggestions on why/where & what I would adjust to correct ?????

Thanks

Try reinstalling the Mouse device driver.
Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the Mouse device, Action
menu, "Uninstall", (do Not put a check in 'delete driver") then Action
menu,"scan for hardware changes", to find the device drivers again
automatically.
