ok 3rd time of trying to post this request for ideas........

computer keep freezing and nothing helps other than turning it off.

the event log shows issues with the 'service control manager' error code
'7000' and '1005'.

have tried to use driver magic to check drivers but it hasnt helped, not
sure that the program helps. Also tried the HD tune recommended elsewhere on
here but not sure how to use it....

comp has had parts replaced not so long ago but not sure exactly what!

have changed anti-virus to AVG free but not sure if its conflicting with
previous stuff that hasnt been removed fully?

Also trying the mutli anti-virus scan also suggested by someone on another
board.

Have no idea what to do or where to go.............any ideas anyone???
getting really desperate now.

thanks in advance

1) format harddrive
and install windows.

and/or

2) check out homesite
for your laptop for
faq's, downloads,
patches, etc...

Boot into safe mode, see if that helps
Dump all these dubious repair tools that 'someone' reccommended.

ok thanks guys, i tried to update from the toshiba web page.............told
me that the bios were needing an update.

Started the update of bios whihc was working fine then the comp crashed and
turned itself off!!!

Now the problem is the damn thing wont re-start! I'm guessing the bios
update or instal never completed properly.

Is there anyway to re-start the comp and complete the instal? or is it
buggered??

Thanks again

Zoe

The last bios update I did was done from a floppy or CD that you boot
from. If you did some bios update while windows was running, I'm going
to go out on a limb and say you did not follow directions properly.
You might want to check the web site again. I've only done one bios
update on a PC and it was too many years ago, and its fuzzy now.
Both me and the bios are fuzzy! :-)

Thanks Big Al,

But now the problem is that the comp wont turn on at all!!

the bios set up was running but the comp tunred itself off as it has been
doing recently, hence one of the reasons i got the bios update from the
toshiba website. I cant go in and check what has happened cos the lap top
will not now turn on.

if the bios had only partially been updated i'm guessing it will cause a
conflict but would this be why the whole system isnt starting up??

thanks again

Zoe

You evidently have a PC access since you are posting. Have you
re-verified from the toshiba website that running a bios update should
be done from windows? You never said, but did you do it from windows?

Yeah thanks i am using the desktop right now.

the website has 2 options a windows based update and a msdos update. i
dowloaded and started the windows update, it was in the process when the comp
shut down, was on installing 3 of 5 when it crashed......

the comp apparently will restart itself after the process is completed but i
know it didnt fully complete before it shut down.

any help to working out what happened???

Thanks again

I've upgraded software in cameras and printers and every direction I
have warns that if the process is stopped in the middle, it may render
the device inop. The bios is the heart of the PC. I have to assume
you have destroyed something. Why, I don't know if the vendor says you
can. You might want to contact Toshiba to see if they know how to get
that bios back to working order. I have no clues. Sorry.

Unless your Tosh has a bios recovery option, your laptop is hosed, return it
to Tosh for repair
