I see that there are a few software solutions out there, and I trialed one
and it seemed to work, but I don't have $100, and was thinking maybe what I
need to do requires less than these software solutions (ie. Fabulatech's
serial splitter).

I have an electronic scale that we use to send weight to the shipping
software (we use UPS and Endicia). It's plugged into the serial port
(Com1). There is only one such port available.

What we need is for these two different applications to be open at the same
time, and each able to get info from the scale. One application works while
the other is closed, but when both are opn only one continues to work, and
the connection to the scale is lost by the other one.

Fabulatech's Serial Splitter seemed to do the trick, but isn't there any
easy way to fiddle with interrupt request settings, or make a virtual port
and have one application use that virtual port, and direct the COm1 real
port to the virtual port, or SOMETHING?

Any help or ideas or sugestions would be appreciated. It seems like someone
must have had to do this before.

Thanks for taking the time.
