    - windows did not start successfully I keep receiving the above message everytime i start my computer. when I follow the instructions and click on safe mode, I am sent to a blue screen telling me that "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." Unfortunenately this is as far as I get. I also get an error Message at the bottom of the screen: "***STOP: 0X00000050(0XC3340000, 0X00000000,0X804DADF8,0X00000000). It also states to restart the computer and hit F8 and then select safe mode. But every time I come back to the Blue Screen and I am frozen at the at point every time. i need help fast.     - Cleaning up laptop A young lady friend was just given a new laptop for her birthday and she gave me her old Compac 700. It came with the usual stuff that Comapc and Hewlett-Packard pre-install on all their machine and since this old one only has a 40GB hard drive it is already three quarters full. I would like to get rid of everything and leave only the operating system, thus making the machine even "cleaner" than it came out of the factory. Then I would install Open Office Suite and nothing else which will leave me lots of room for personal files. As usual with HP and Compaq, I don't have the actual Windows XP software.     - SP3 download fails When I click Install Updates for SP3, the Installing Updates window says, "The updates are being downloaded and installed" and Installation status displays, "Downloading Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929) (update 1 of 1) . . .     - Why Does WinXP Keep Installing A Screensaver???? Unfortunately, I've had a handful of occasions now where I've had to reinstall WinXP due to hard drive failure. Each time, and *inevitably* so, WinXP will sooner or later decide to "give" me a screensaver even though I always specify that I want no screensaver. I don't know how it happens, I don't know what triggers it, all I know is that eventually one day my screen is suddenly displaying the MS WinXP logo screensaver without my asking for it.     - How do i get the pci pnp to work again? I was trying to install a modem in a Shuttle Xps computer, but it did not want to connect to the dial-up site. So I installed a second one that did not work well in the computer. But installing the third one in the same slot (there is only one pci slot in this computer) did not get recognized.     - Too quick message to be read I assist a friend with his genuine Windows XP Home Edition computer, assuring all the updates are done and the Antivrus and Antyspyware programs are regularly run; I was unable to help him on this: from some time a very quick message (with sound) appears low on the screen at irregular intervals. It is impossible to read the message because of the short permanency. I checked the Events logs and the message is not related to any system logged event. Changing the System Notification sound I made sure it is a System Notification message but I was unable to understand from which application/service it comes from.     - Can't log in thru admin screen I have WIndows XP SP3. I have an admin screen set up, one for guests and one for me which is password protected. As soon as I log into my account with my password or try to use the guiest account, Windows starts to load, I can see the wallpaper, then logs me out (logging off message). I can not get into my computer to access the programs. I;ve booted in safe mode but safe mode has the admin page too and does the same thing.     - XP Pro firewall locked. I have a couple of XP Pro machines with this problem. We have a LAN based on SBS 2003. I can ping them successfully but I cannot access their shares. Figuring that there may be a firewall issue, I decided to disable it to see if that made a difference. However the firewall is set to on but all the radio buttons are dimmed. The 'Don't allow exceptions' tick box is available though. It is the only thing that is. Any idea what is happening?     - XP on a MacBook wireless problem I have a couple of Macs that run Windows XP. Everything runs fine with them except I cannot connect to my secured wireless network.     - Read existing threads, still haven't fixed login My notebook impromperly shut down and the next time I restarted it, I was asked for a password. Unlike some logins where you pick the admin icon or guest icon, I only have user login name and password field to enter. I tried it with no password and the only known one I ever programmed. I don't remember an admin password ever being set. I tried to do the Safe Mode startup as recommended on this forum and then selected XP Pro as my program.     - Copying Files to CD from Floppy Disk I tried to copy files from my floppy disk onto a CD R/W disk. The files on my floppy disk are not Read-Only, but show up as such on my CD.     - Desktop icon label problem Using XP Pro, I did something when using a CD label making programme that accidentally made the desktop icons have a blue rectangular label behind the normal white lettering for the icon. This is only on the log in the wife uses, my log in is "normal", white letters under the icons, no "label".     - Web pages display weird format Recently my web pages began to display weirdly. My my space pages have no background images on my computer but others can see them, thats just an example because I know what should be there. Other web pages are missing backgrouns and the type font is HUMONGOUS!. There appears to be type over other type, like maybe certain sections are overlapping others.     - Disabling the page file doesn't really disable it. A bug? I tried disabling the pagefile using the "No paging file" option on the advanced tab of "My computer" properties . I restarted the computer, the file pagefile.sys is missing (as it should be), but I still see that windows is paging a lot of memory to a pagefile when I look at the "VM usage" column of most processes on Task Manager. The "page faults" column also shows many page faults for certain applications that I am using. The total memory of all my processes never reaches 1GB, which is half the memory I have (2GB), so there is no reason for windows to swap to a page file. Therefore I tried disabling it, although I know several articles advised not to do so ( Giving not good enough or even wrong reasons in my opinion) I have more than enough RAM (2GB) for all my applications memory needs, but I still see that Windows by default swaps about 1/2 of the application memory usage to the page file on the disk. This happens with almost all applications. For example the total memory usage of firefox with 60 tabs open is ~600MB, and windows swaps ~300MB to the page file on disk according to the Task manager (the "VM usage" column) I am using Windows XP SP3.     - XP Can't Load cos Insufficient memory I'm running XP home with 2.7 Ghz celeron and 1.2M DDR RAM and 2 hard disks formatted into 7/8 partitions. It started by freezing up, then it wouldn't restart - seemed to not find a bootable OS on the 1st hdd and then tried to load win 98 which is not installed(?) on the next hdd, but then says not enough memory clean up the autoexec.bat and config.sys files, followed by the its safe to shutdown message (from win98). I have 2 friends, who can never open my Windows XP created attachments.
The attachments may be from MS Word or other application, everyone else with
a PC can open them, but not these 2 with MACS.

What can I download for them and send to fix this problem?
