Hi,

I tried to System Restore, but all of the dates I tried for last week
(Friday back through Monday) come back with "Restore Unsuccessful" (or words
to that effect).

What's going on? Do I have to just keep on trying until I find one that
works?

TIA

it seems to me that
maybe you have a
couple of problems.

one being that required
a system restored to a
functional date and two,
the system restore feature
itself is faulty.

what you might want
to do is a simple "repair
installation" with your
windows setup cd.

the repair installation
will repair and replace
missing and corrupted
system files with genuine
ones from the cd.

in addition, the process
will make a brand new
restore point and delete
all the prior ones.

Just out of curiosity, what antivirus program do you have running on your
computer? Some AV programs can interfere with System Restore.

To see if this may be the case try running System Restore in Safe mode.

Good luck

Tap F8 on start up/Boot up until you get a Boot up options select safe Mode.
There try to restore your operating system by doing this:
Click Start >> All programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore.

To boot into Safe Mode, restart your computer. Keep hitting the F8 key until you
see the Windows Advanced Options Menu. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to
select Safe Mode from the list.

You can also use this free program to configure your computer to boot into Safe
Mode.
