Hi,
I decided that as XP Service Pack 3 was now available and I was
prompted to install via Update centre that I would do so on my Laptop.

I installed the version for single computers, not IT professional version.

Big mistake. After restarting computer, I found that I had lost all my
Network connections, and trying to re-install them did'nt work.

After about an hour trying to find fix for this problem, I decided to use
System Restore to go back to before SP3 installation. Thankfully this worked.

Has anyone else had this problem, and are there any fixes for this problem,
as everytning else worked O.K.

Cheers.

Check your Laptop manu site for any driver updates that may be required, do
NOT use winupdate for drivers

Hi lms1953,

You lost the Internet Connection, because your Computer's Mac Address,
changed a little and you are / were blocked from the Router. Disable the
Network Lock, until you are reconnected to your Router. Then reapply the
Network Lock.

However, to install Service Pack 3, I would download the IT Professional
Version and save it to your Desktop Briefcase folder, to find it easy later.
After it is downloaded, I would then do the following:
Click Start then Run and type in msconfig. Click Ok.
Dot Selective Startup. Uncheck Load Startup Items. Click the Services Tab.
Check Hide All Microsoft Services and click Disable All. Click Apply then
OK. Restart the Computer. Once rebooted, open the Briefcase Folder and click
on the IT Version to install it.

When finished, leave it alone and do not close it, but go to Start > Run
and back to msconfig. Dot Normal Startup. Click Apply then OK. Exit without
rebooting. Then click finish and reboot the computer.

IE 7 has not connected today. I reinstalled IE 7. Then I downloaded
the XP Pro SP 3 update. When I tried to Install, the Wizard advised
to do a system backup. I found an article on how to do that, went to
Start/Accessories/System/Backup and clicked.

Backup told me the Backup Utility could not find the Removable Storage
Unit and I should start the RS service using the System Services
function of the Management Console.

Where is the Management Console? How do I get this backup to work? I
thought I'd back it up to a second HD on my computer.

This is a lot of trouble to be going through because IE 7 won't
connect to the Internet, especially if I don't even need SP 3 and the
problem lies elsewhere. Any suggestions?

Hi MOB,

You don't need to do a specific Backup, if you already have an image
backup, like Acronis Backup to your 2nd Hard Drive.
