IE7 Problems - XP, SP3

I have been asked to look at a friend's system.

Windows XP, SP3 installed. All of the latest Windows updates (on
auto-install) are in there as of the date of this posting.

AVG Ver 8 (Grissoft) as AV program, no additional firewall issues that
I can detect.

Comcast Broadband connection.

When using IE7 to connect to Yahoo Mail it does not display the pages
correctly, and some pages will not display at all. Unsure if this is
a Java, ActiveX, Flash, or some other issue.

I followed the instructions offered from Yahoo for when the pages do
not display correctly (I think) and enabled anthing that might have
been improperly disabled, such as ActiveX.

Also, when visiting Google Video or Youtube Videos I cannot get the
videos to display on a page (the thumbnails) or display a video to
play.

While there the other day I reinstalled ActiveX, Flash, Shockwave, and
checked all security settings and restarted/rebooted.

I even downloaded the IE7 installer and ran it again hoping that it
might repair something broken or take me back to installation
defaults. I even reset everything back to defaults where poessible.

Now... When using FireFox 3, there are no problems. Everything
displays OK.

I'm stuck (and possibly stupid).

Suggestions?

Hello, have you tried shutting down IE7, right click on IE icon on yur
desktop, click Start Without Add-ons, if your problem goes away, add ons are
the curlprit.

Was not aware of that as this is not my own system.

Will try that the next time or send them a suggestion via e-mail.

Same situation here but I am NOT resorting to think myself stupid - yet.

IE-7 began going south after an upgrade. It would sometimes display a web
page but usually just reported "unable to display page" I spent quite a bit
of non-productive time messing with it - a real PITA for me.

I got a bit disgusted and installed FireFox which loaded and worked with
only a few minor inconveniences.

I did try to run without Add-Ons as mentioned above and things were
definitely better, but most sites in my favorites folder must need them.

I'll be watching here for a possible solution - soon, I hope. I really need
all the MS stuff to work.

When I first installed IE7 on my machine over a year ago I ran in to a miriad
of issues, I spent hours on the phone with IE techs, one guy based in New
Deli passed this web site on to me, it has many fixes for IE7, I hope it will
help.

I will add that the last item I installed which might be the problem was
Adobe Flash Reader. As mentioned earlier I also fetched IE patches and
upgrades at about the same time. I know very little about the mechanics of
Add-Ons and how to deal with them.

I'll go look at the borris googlepage item
