    - Restore / Repair / Clean Boot Watching these messages for months, people have bantered around these terms. I use the word restore meaning a restore like Acronis backups. But have never used (and hope not to) the other two. I read a MS KB article on clean boot but no luck. Yes it explained it but missed enough 'whys' for me. Could someone who uses and prescribes these tools explain what they do to your system. Just how much is altered and why do you want to use them. Or links will work. I've searched and of course either get 10000 irrelevant or just not sure what I'm reading. Odd that I've been working in PCs for 40years, building, rebuilding, repairing them, and using them and have never done more than a reload or restore. Do I live in that much of a sheltered life?     - Open Windows in IE6 I would like to have separate windows open whenever I open a new web site. For example, I would like to have Comcast and the New York Yankees site open at the same time, in different windows. Sometimes, and I don't have an idea what the criteria for the "sometimes" is, IE will open separate windows; sometimes, it reuses the window. Can someone tell me if this is an OE setting or if it depends on the web site? And if it's an OE setting, I'd appreciate help with the settings. Thank you. I have shared the C: drive on both machines and allowed network users to change files and can access them from either machine. When I run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard and select Home of Office Network as the transfer method I get a message "Windows cannot locate your new computer.     - XP "set programs access and defaults" not working I have recently installed XP 2000 with service pack 2 and I tried to install java and the os wouldnt let me. I did some research and figured I try and change the set programs access and defaults, but when I changed them then clicked ok, the screen blinked and nothing changed.     - Trying to find the best way to get everything right xp 64 bit I built a new computer recently and sense it was 64 bit I got xp 64 bit because 90% percent of what I hear of vista is that it competes whith me for bugginess and helping my freind with his new vista machine left me feeling happy with xp but the 64 bit xp is moderately unsuported for drivers and I had to dumb down some bios setting to get it to correctly see my DVD read writter and then a peice of software that I have always wanted to work with dragon naturally speaking 9 cant install and it may not have a patch for 8 to 10 months and I had to find an alternative print driver for my cannon i860 so I am using the bjc 8000 driver and it seems to work, that leaves me a little troubled. I have an old retail version of xp service pack1 but I'd rather leave available for my back up computer. I was considering setting up a dual boot but I ran into a refernce to virtual pc 2007. so I am considering buying a oem version of windows xp 32 bit because buying an aditional licence would only save me forty dollars out of 280 and I would have to deal with a lot of updates that can sometimes be tricky. I saw a oem version for 130. But I wonder if there is a better option. Other than that anything xp 64 bit recognizes and installs correctly runs buetifuly and without flaw.     - Limited Accounts - Netwrok Access Have an XP Pro system with three user accounts, one Administrator and two Limited so that they cannot add/remove programs. If we connect to the internet via the LAN all users can access it. But we have installed a Wireless USB Adaptor and although the Administrator user can see the WAP and get on the internet, the Limited users can see the WAP but the adaptor keeps disconnecting.     - Keyboard Due to my neurological disability I am wondering if there is a way to disable the left CTRL and/or ALT keys on my keyboard.     - File missing on startup I installed a new printer and uninstalled most of the crap programs that came on the printer CD. While I was at it I uninstalled a few other things I no longer use. Now on startup, I get an error message that a file cannot be found. I can click "OK" and proceed normally from there, but it now takes longer to boot up since the computer is apparently looking for something. It also takes one extra click by me to proceed to the desktop. The file it's looking for is: c:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{D03E7\Setup.exe I went to a DOS prompt and got as far as C:PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1 but when I type dir: <enter> it lists 4 directories but nothing that starts with {D03E7.     - Internet explorer blocking issues I am using XP pro and IE6 or IE7 and I am having difficulties accessing certain secured web sites on both IE 6 and 7. It seems that some of the site will allow be to enter a user id and password, but will not let me download information from the site once I have logged on. On some sites I canâ??t even get by the log in screen. What seems strange is that this happens only when the machine is connected to a router (Linksys VR016). I have several other machines (also running XP pro and IE6 and 7) connected to that router that can access these sites without any problems. If I connect the troubled machine directly to a DSL modem there doesnâ??t seem to be any issues. Also, I have used the machine on other networks with a Linksys Wireless router (although I used a cable to connect to the router) without any issues. I would suspect the VR016 router, but why would other older machines work when a newer one wonâ??t. I have also tried disabling the firewall on the router and computer to no avail.     - Connective un-installing/installing programsn problem!! Its Win-Xp-Pro SP2 the problem is there is a kind of a link between programs that i install or un-install that makes the remaining programs on the machine works in a funny way. I know that some times programs have shared components, but when i un-install/install a program and the system never gives me a warning about any shared components then there shouldnt be any problem .. i suppose. what happens is, lets say i have programs (A,B,C and D) if i install other programs (say E,F and G) or Uninstall one of the former programs (A,B,C and D). The remainig programs on the pc (say B,C ) will not function properly and when i launch any of them they will give out a little dialogue box saying ( Installing in progress) what the hell ! it seems that i have to re-install programms i already have on the PC !! and Nothing happenes after the dialogue box or installation appears cos it does nothing ,, i have to insert the CD of the programm and re-install it :-( NOTE: that happens without any warning msg from the system that there are shared components and installing/uninstaling may affect other programs!!!
