Hi there,

I am the ONLY user of my computer at home and when I initially set it
up (about 2 yrs ago) I did not use any password (left blank) so that
it will automatically boot straight into Windows !

Now I notice that sometimes, before it goes into the Windows Logo
(where it loads) I get a notice saying "Your password expires in 14
days, Do you want to change it ?"
There are 2 radio buttons "Yes" and "No"
So I click on the "Yes", leave the Old/New/Confirm boxes blank, click
on OK ... it then confirms password has been saved and then continues
to boot up !

I don't know how often this happens as I normally switch on the
computer then come back 5-10 minutes when it is fully booted, so
normally never see what happens during the boot up !

I don't know why it does this routine though, and I am worried one day
I will be denied access because the 14 days have expired and it won't
let me in !

How can I get rid of this "Password Change" routine altogether ...
once again I stress, I do not need any password protection at all !

Hope someone can help !

Thanks in advance,

Steve

I assume you have Windows XP Pro? Try this:

a.. Right-click My Computer and select "Manage."
b.. Expand the Local Users Groups folder and click on Users.
c.. Right-click the User you'd like to change the password, and select
"Properties."
d.. Place a checkmark next the text labeled "Password never
expires" and click Apply.

Hi Kenneth,

Yes, I do have XP Pro (sorry, I realise I should have said that !)

I have followed your easy guide (thanks for being so detailed too) and
have done what you said !

I had a look in Aministrator while I was there and there was a tick in
"Password never expires box" but not in my user name (Steve would you
believe !) and so I now feel confident that you have solved the
problem for me, I was getting really worried !

Many thanks for your help !

Kindest Regards from the UK !

Steve
