    - Business Contact Manager shuts down explorer I'm running xp small business 2003. When I open Outlook I'm getting a "Business Contact Manager has encountered a problem..." popup and Outlook locks up. I ran a manual Macafee scan that came up empty and system restore did nothing.     - driver do Microsoft Access During the installation of a WinTV product I had to activate a database by going to Data Sources and selecting and adding the "driver do Microsoft Access". I received an error message, "driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver:" Followed by another message, "Component not found in registry".     - Deletion of User account I have just deleted my old user account on my pc, running XP, so that now there is only my wifes account left. I selected to store the files from my old account on my wifes desktop. All good.... Now however there is less memory on the hard drive and when I run disc defragmenter it leaves loads and loads of fragmented files. Can anyone help please?     - No "Backup" in "System Tools" As the result of a Corrupted Error Report, "http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/79/en-us/5.1.2600.2.00010300.2.0?SGD=40d79eb4-4ff9-472e-947d-3666346babd0#here" I went to backup my files per the instructions. There is no Backup or Restore Wizard in System Tools. Any ideas on where it is? I manually copied My Documents and Outlook Express .dbx files to an External HDD.     - Error when using a printer Each time I try to print from any application, I get the error message: â??(application name) has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience.â?? The data goes to the printer and, after I close the error window, the printer prints the document. This happens in Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft Word 2002 SP3, Outlook Express 6 or any other application that I am using. I have spent considerable time troubleshooting this problem including contact with HP ( I have two HP printers connected to my computer, Deskjet 722C and psc1315. The problem occurs with either printer. I have been using them for several years with no problem, till now?) I have reset Internet Explorer and run Ad-Aware 2007, Spybot-Search and Distroy1.5.2.20, Registry Mechanic 5.0, RegistryFix v.6.2, Disc Cleanup, Cleared the desktop, PC Doctor and tried System Restore all with no success. I am using Windows XP Home v. 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 on a Gateway 510 with Intel Pentium 2.60 GHz, 494 MB Ram and 80 GB Hard Drive. When I copy text from Word 2002 to Outlook Express I get the message: "One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: (1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page or (2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. As a result, the page may not display correctly." When I close the error message, the copy appears correct in Outlook Express. Could these error messages come from the same source?     - Need to hide a console window. I am running Win XP Pro SP2 v2002 on Dell Optiplex 745, 2GHz DCoreProc, 2GB RAM I have a Windows NT Command Script (startWebLogic.cmd / CMD File) which I have to have running in order to access certain web pages on my pc running through Weblogic. The target in the shortcut is currently, %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe /k"c:\...\startWebLogic.cmd" The CMD file opens in a standard windows console and remails open, closing the window terminates the application meaning I can not access the web pages. There is no need for me to ever not have this application open or view anything displayed in the window. I would like to add this file to the startup folder and have it run in the background and NOT display a window.     - Modem--Very strange problem A machine running XP Pro. Has an internal modem which is not picked up by Outlook Express. Control panel --Modem settings reports that the modem is not installed properly--- But Device manager says that it is woking properly and the modem query operation has the modem responding to the commands. I uninstalled the internal modem and installed a USRobotics modem which was on the restart was picked up by the Op Sys and installed. Again the same problem--not picked up by Outlook Express ( perhaps the wrong COM port) ?     - Fax service print monitor has failed to submit the fax The Send Fax Wizard, when used from an application (e.g., Word) to print to the fax queue, is failing consistently on my computer. The net effect seems to be that I can submit a fax to one or two recipient destinations at a time, but the rest if there are more do not show up in the fax queue. I have removed and re-installed the XP fax service; I have deleted and re-created the fax printer and queue; I have re-installed the modem. Everything was working fine on this system with no changes and then this happened. My guess is that something like registry corruption keeps the Send Fax Wizard from completing properly (there is a brief flash at the end of a small message box window -- it appears to be empty).     - BSOD Error Ok here goes, hopefully you all can help me sort this out becuase its getting really annoying LOL XP Pro SP2 BAD_POOL_CALLER 0X000000C2 0X00000007 0X00000CD4 0X0000003E 0X861C9008 I am getting this error after my system has been up for a few hours, I have tried to localize it to a certain program and have been unsuccessful. I happens at random times with random programs, if anyone can explain how I can fix this error it would be greatly appreciated. I origonally thought it was the RAM so I checked the RAM and after removing one of the sticks the problem went away for about a week, now its back and I cant understand why. I have all the latest drivers and BIOS. This is a new system (Less then 3 months old) If you want the system components just ask, he is the short and dirty: 1gig RAM, 250gig HD, ASUS SLI Mobo, AMD Athlon CPU, 8500GT SLI V-card, SB Live S-card.     - Windows XP I have Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. I am about to purchase a new computer to replace my old failing one. The new computer has a Vostro 200 E4500 Core 2 Duo Processor 2.20GHz, 800Mhz FSB, 2MB cache. I have read somewhere that only Windows XP Professional can handle dual processors. Will my Home edition be able to take full advantage of the Processor in the new computer? I know about the out of office contact advantages of Windows Professional, and I am not interested in those.     - Cannot stay looged in I don't know whether this is a Win XP problem or a BT broadband problem. BT Broadband is my ISP and BTYahoo is my homepage. I need to Log in to this homepage however there is a "keep me logged in" box which I have ticked which meant that I did not need to login each started MSIE or Firefox.     - cmd.exe not running Hello, I am having XP (sp 2) system. Recently the system was infected by many spywares/malwares. Now, using available tools I have get rid of these malwares, but now cmd.exe is not running. Whenever I type 'cmd' in Run window, it says:- "Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."     - process wait time Hi, I have a C++ program having two threads, out of which thread 1 is cpu bound and thread 2 is IO bound. There are two cases for the process case 1) where both thread needs almost same execution time (say t1) case 2) Where thread 1 finishes very early then thread 2. I have a 2 core machine (while doing test I closed all other exe's) Ideally in case 2 the time to finish the process (process end time - start time) should be almost equal to /better then case 1. But its not, and the process runs 10% slower in csae 2. I suspect that since there are no ready to run thread in case 2 (as thread 1 finished early) so the OS puts the process in wait queue whenever thread 2 requests IO, which casue the increase in total time to finish the process. the total cpu time as shown by TaskManager is less in case 2, But the end to end finish time is more.     - Upload problems with Windows XP SP2 I'm having trouble with uploads to web sites on my Windows XP SP2 machine. I basically can't upload any files in in a web request. If I try going to a bandwidth test page, it does the download test fine, but then won't even complete the upload test. I can't send emails through my web email client. I can't upload files to web pages. Each time I try it hangs and then times out. It shouldn't be a browser problem. It is the same with Firefox and IE. I thought maybe it was a hardware problem. I tried switching out the network cable, tried switching ports on my router, I even installed a different network card with the same results on the new card. Clearly it shouldn't be a hardware problem. It isn't the internet connection. I have another computer going through the same router to the same internet connection and it doesn't have the problem. I can upload files over the network to the other computer (though it does seem a little slower than download). Firewall is turned off. I really don't know what else to look for.     - Problems opening minimized apps on taskbar I've been having problems recently with trying to open minimized applications/files on the toolbar. Normally when I click on the file/application to open it back up, it opens a window on top of any other open windows and is the active window. Now when I click on something on the taskbar, the rectangle button just blinks. If I click on it several times, it will finally open. While it is the front-most window, it is not active.     - Folder tree display faulty In windows explorer, in any folder or directory, when Moving or Copying or Renaming a folder or file I will occasionally see this happen in the folder tree of the folder I am in when the operation completes. Always at the top level (desktop), not the folder that I happen to be in. A duplicate set of desktop icons will appear above the "real" Desktop icon, and all of them will be named "Desktop". The duplicate icons will be correct though, for MY COMPUTER, RECYCLE BIN, etc, and for any other folders that are actually on my desktop. Furthermore, I can select any of these duplicate icons and they will open the correct object they represent. It's like a "clone" Desktop folder tree ABOVE the actual desktop folder tree.     - USB "Safely Remove" error In the past I've used two USB devices which I habitually remove without shutting XP down: the little reader that reads my camera's memory card and a little 2gig flash memory I bought at Staples. The Safely Remove feature worked OK with these. Recently I also connnected a USB enclosure with an IDE hard drive inside it to clone to. When I tried using the Safely Disconnect icon on this drive I got this message "Exception occurred trying to run shell32.dll, control_Rundll hotplug.dll". The balloon "You may safely disconnect your device" does appear, and the temporary drive icon disappears from the tray. Anyone know how to cure this? Do you think it is REALLY safe to turn the drive off at that point? (that's a backup clone of my c: drive, I wouldn't want to destroy data, I'd really need the thing in a dire emergency).     - Constant Disk Writes WinXP I've searched the internet high and low, found many many posts regarding constant disk writes when the system is otherwise idle, but have found exactly zero cases where the thread culminated in a resolution. I have a WinXP Home SP3v.3311 built on Q6600 Quad, 4GB Ram, Gigabyte P35-DS3L, EVGA 8800GT. My system drive is a WD 150GB 10krpm and it is being abused by the system. The really weird thing is that WinInternals ProcessMonitor doesn't seem to report this continuous activity. I enabled the column I/O Delta Writes in PE and and sort the processes by this parameter, but very little info is ever displayed under this column when idle. Perhaps 0.5s is far too long a refresh cycle, an eternity on a 2.4GHz system. The nature of my problem is revealed by FILEMON: 10:29:07 AM System:4 IRP_MJ_WRITE* C:\pagefile.sys SUCCESS Offset: 41611264 Length: 65536 10:29:13 AM System:4 IRP_MJ_WRITE* C:\$Mft SUCCESS Offset: 45522944 Length: 4096 10:29:13 AM System:4 IRP_MJ_WRITE* C:\$LogFile SUCCESS Offset: 27033600 Length: 36864 10:29:14 AM System:4 IRP_MJ_WRITE* C:\$Directory SUCCESS Offset: 8192 Length: 4096 10:29:14 AM System:4 IRP_MJ_WRITE* C:\$BitMap SUCCESS Offset: 5976064 Length: 4096 These typical lines were clipped out of a voluminous FILEMON log. These writes happen on the average of 3-4 times per second, constantly. A typical sequence as reported by DISKMON is six writes to $LogFile in the sequence 96-8-8-8-8-96 bytes. My WHSTray application was just as guilty and I've reduced the reported thrashing somewhat by disabling it, but the level of constant writes is still unacceptable. Odd thing is WHSTray does not have that effect on my other two XP machines, one XP Pro SP2, the other a Toshiba laptop with XP Home SP3v3264 I've also disabled Terminal Services so lsass.exe is not running. The other important detail I should include is that this is a newly built machine, having migrated the system volume and did repair install from slipstreamed SP2 cd. The old machine has become my WHS. I have up-to-date AVGFree reporting no threats. Spybot S&D the same. Disabling either or both has no effect. Thanks in advance for anyone willing and able to help.     - Command line to update thumbs.db? I have a server with several TB of images. You can think of it as a sort of imaging server. There are around 10 million images in thousands of directories. These uploaded from interfaces, so the users have read-only rights to the entire server. When the users browse a folder, they don't have rights to create/ update thumbs.db. So they have to generate the thumbnails each time, in memory. I'd like to have the thumbs.db autocreate. Is there any way to do this? A command line perhaps? I'm a programmer, so if there is a way to program this then I'm all ears. Worst case I can imagine is recursively navigate the directories in a program, and launch each directory in Explorer, forcing thumbnail view (already have code to do this in my imaging viewer) however the problem is that Explorer only creates thumbnails for the first page of images and there is no way to tell when it is done.     - Windows Movie Maker problem When I attempt to trim the beginning of a clip I often experience this problem: If I trim too much off in the beginning, the thumbnail of the video in the timeline or storyboard turns green and when I preview the clip, the video is gone (only audio left). There is often too much at the beginning of a clip that needs to be trimmed to leave it as is. Is a Virus stop it being shut down? Any help would be apperiate. Thanks Tag: XP Aquarium graphics missing Tag: 802950

My Aquarium screensaver graphics have mysteriously disappeared. I have tried
resetting the time, adding scr to the system 32 name, but I only get sound,
no pictures.

Can anyone help?

Create a shortcut to the .scr file, and rightclick it to see if it will 'run
as administrator'

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have created a shortcut but I don't get
'test,configure,install,scan,send,cut,copy,create,delete,rename & properties
options, no run as admin.
