 - why can't I see the printer from a workgroup Laptop on a domain PC? I have a laptop that is part of a Workgroup. I have a PC that belongs to my domain. I have a printer shared on the PC. The laptop can't see the printer on the PC. Other PCs can see the printer on the PC. The laptop can see printers on other PCs on the domain, but not the printer on this PC. If I use the wizard to add a printer and type in the path \\PC\Printer, I'm prompoted for a use name and password. I've tried entering my domain admin password and it tmes out saying it can't connect. I turned off the Firewall on both the PC and the laptop. Still no luck. In the wizard it will show me the domain and let me drill to the PC, but it won't let me drill into the PC to see the printer. I drilled into another PC on the domain and could see the printer, and was able to connect to the printer just fine. Didn't prompt me for a password or anything. When the computer is cold booted sometimes there is a message "AzMixerSel.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.", hot rebooting usually temporarily resolves the problem. AZMixerSel.exe has been traced to the folder C:\Program Files\Realtek\ InstallShield, at the same time I noticed there is a second Realtek installshield folder located at C:\Program files\Realtek\Audio\InstallShield which does not have AzMixerSel.exe file.  - Reversed Show/Hide Hidden Toggle Problem XP Home SP2 Just recently cleaned out 2 instances of a Trojan Horse Generic 10JNM from my system and developed problems with no longer being able to view hidden files. Acer some Goggling for the problem, I came upon the registry key fix, "Navigate to, and select, this registry key in the left pane: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWAL". After applying the fix I am now able to view hidden files, but now another problem has surfaced. The toggle to SHOW and NOT TO SHOW now works in reverse. To view hidden files I now have to check the box Not to Show and to Hide the files, I now have to check the Show Hidden Files. Can anyone shed some light on this weird change and help to correct it if at all possible.  - Memory Test Stops Boot Is this the XP home or the Presario hardware that stops the boot up? Is this COMPAQ PRESARIO S5100NX 2.6 Ghz; MB (Mother board) broken? It stops at reboot with these 3 lines in the BIOS; 1. Award Medallion Biox v 6.0 2. REV 3.7 3. Intel Celeron 1600 Mhz Memory Test 1040448K + 8192 K Shared Memory It just hangs there. At the borron of the screen are 2 options; 1. Enter F1 for Setup. 2. Press Escape to skip Memory Test. Hitting F1 and/or the Esc key has no effect. Nothing happens. Both 512 RAM chips were removed. 2 other 256 RAM chips were tested. The original new Crucial 512 RAM chips were reinstalled. Nothing happens. Hitting F1 and/or the Esc key has no effect. PC Doctor test on MB and RAM memory tested OK. Would the last MS Windows Updates affect the Hardware / BIOS / Memory test ? Which MB test would you run on the MB ?  - Passwords I have just run software which analyses the hardware and software of a computer. I was surprised to see passwords to ISPs and Outlook Express accounts which, in use, are hidden by blobs. I already knew that it is very easy to discover passwords to MS Office files. Access to passwords probably goes much wider than this. Let this be a lesson.  - Sound Problem I've XP sp2 with MS Automatic Critical Updates, AVG, SpywareBlaster & MS Firewall. Recently I only get Windows start-up and shut-down sounds, perfectly, through my speakers.  - Real Player I have tried to update Real Player 10 with Real Player 11. When that failed I uninstalled and re-installed Real Player 11 with the same result. I then uninstalled Real Player 11 and tried to install Real Player 10. This results in an error message "You currently do not have Administrator access to the Windows Registry. Please see your Administrator to install Real Player". I have also tried booting up as Administrator but still get the same error message. I really wish I hadn't tried to upgrade and I really do need Real Player. I have also cleaned the registry with Registry Mechanic.  - XP Installation problems- please help! I have a laptop which was runnning Windows 2000 and I'm trying to install Windows XP on it. I did manage to get it on but I must have made some mistake somewhere as on startup it was giving me the option to boot into either XP or Windows 2000. Before explaining the current status I should just explain exactly what I'd like to acheive ideally. One hard drive (C) with the full amount of storage space (10GB) running Windows XP. That's it! Nothing more, nothing less. So I have tried to do a few things- deleting partition, re-installing XP and now I'm really confused! When I startup now, I get 3 choices from the boot screen: Windows XP Home Edition Windows 2000 Professional Windows XP Setup If I select Windows XP Home Edition it says: Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. COuld not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documemntation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information. If I select Windows 2000 Professional it gets me into Windows 2000. If I go to Computer Management>Disk Management there it reads: C: 5GB FAT32 - Primary Partition Unallocated 4.36GB Right-clicking on either of these doesn't give me an option to either delete or format. If I try Windows XP Home Edition Setup it says: Welcome to Setup To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER Insert the CD labeled Windows XP Home Edition CD ROM I then put in the disk and press enter. I then get the following screen: The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer 9586MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MPR] C: Partition1 (VAIONOTE) [FAT32] 5122MB 979MB free Unpartioned space 4463MB If I press 'D' on C, it says: Setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the slected partition. This partition contains temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation. 'D' doesn't work on the unpartitioned space. If try to set up on C, it says: The partition you have chosen is too full to contain Windows XP which requires a drive with at least 1033MB of free disk space. I also have the following options: To repair a Windows XP intallation using Recovery Console, press R To quite Setup without installing Windows XP press F3 So, what do I do????!!!
