I suspect that a Windows update has caused a problem. The various updates
are listed in "Add or Remove Programs" I was thinking of reversing all the
updates of a particular date to test my suspicion. Would it be possible to
uninstall updates (without causing more problems) and would the now missing
updates be recognised and re-installed? (I suspect the answer to be "No" to
both questions.)

Thanks.

You should be able to install any you want to...
and re-install later if you wish

Thanks Philo. The question was not whether or not you should be able to do
it (I know it is possible) but whether or not is safe to do so.
