i had a request by my boss to...mix things up a bit around the office to get
us talking face to face. He wants to turn off email for a 20 or so employees
who are in the main office in efforts to get us to talk face to face...just
for one day...for fun. Anywho how can i turn off email for a select few but
leave it on for the remaining 75 employees not in the main office.

is this possible? I want to be able to send to other outside of the office
but not to those who are in the office.

Are all 95 users in the exchange email system, or are you talking about 20
users in the GAL and the rest with individual accounts in your public or
private contact lists. If the former, not an SBS question, and you may want
to take it to an Exchange group, which is where this really belongs in any
case.

What if you went to each account in ADUC and hid them from the GAL? Time
consuming, but not out of the question for 20 accounts.

but they could still get those via "auto complete" or stored addresses, =
just by typing in the To Line if they wanted

You could simply remove their email addresses from ADUC and uncheck the =
box that says "update via recipient policies" (or something like that)

All email to that user would be rejected (inside and out)...then just go =
back and re-check the box. Email addresses should "regenerate"

Create a domain test user, log onto a workstation, fire up Outlook and allow
it to create the test user profile, then log off. Then at the server, try
this...

Server Management | Users | <rt. click the test user> | Properties |
Exchange Advanced | Mailbox Rights

Set SELF object properties to:
Deny Read
Deny Full Mailbox Access

Then test this solution by logging onto the workstation with the test user
account and trying to open Outlook.

This should allow mail to be received by the mailbox during the lock out
period, while blocking the user from accessing their mailbox.

I have another suggestion. Falls under our usual rule of not trying to
enforce an IT solution where what is really needed is behavioral
modification.

Give an award, say lunch or time off, to the employee who best implements
the spirit of your managers request, that people start talking to each other
rather than crouching over the keyboard.

Could be a first place, second place kind of thing, voted on by the peers,
or selected by committee, or the manager. Could be a monthly event, or a
surprise half day event, or ????

At Intel the only way they could do this is have an Offsite.
And ban the use of cell phones during that time.

Suggest an offsite like LaserTag or something.
or potluck

Team building is important.
Glad you have a boss that realizes this.

I hate to sound Pessimistic, but this never worked for me at Intel
I'd just work through the whole day anyway.
(Too much work to do.)

You would have 1 person that didn't have as much work to do win this.

I suggest a OFFSITE event, and for the people that are left at work
you need to offsite them one day also, and let the others cover for them.
