We've just connected an APC SmartUps to our win2k3 sbs server and linked it
via com1. When I try to start the UPS Service I get 'The Uninterruptible
Power Supply service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.'

I understand that the UPS service is installed on SBS by default, so can
anyone tell me how to reinstall it, or what files it needs?

Install the PowerChute software from the CD (or d/l latest version fromn the
APC website). You won't use the native UPS service with your device.

It sounds like you're using the Windows UPS service - I would recommend
using the APC Powerchute software and disabling the built in UPS service
(installing Powerchute should do that). Powerchute Business edition is free:

http://www.apcc.com/tools/download/software_comp.cfm?sw_sku=SFPCBE705&id=125&family=&part_num=&swfam=125

Most others seem to agree that Powerchute works well. It has protected
my server 4 times in the last month by shutting it down gracefully
during prolonged power losses.

Try re-enabling hte UPS Service in the "Services" Control Panel, or

Download and install APC's Powerchute Business Edition

I've installed Powerchute business edition version 7.05 but that doesn't
find the UPS.

That's why I tried to use the native service.

Once you install Powerchute, you can't use it.

Make sure you're using the management cable (USB or serial) that came with
the UPS. If you have more trouble, call APC support - they're excellent.
