    - Lavalink - Ether to Serial Remote Port Hi, We are trying to get a Lavalink ELS 1 Port RS232 DB9 device working on an SBS2003 R2 Premium system. Lavalink support says that the standard windows firewall will block access to this device, but lpnat.sys blocks access to the windows firewall so I am assuming that since ISA and a VPN are running that the Windows Firewall is not. The unit should appear in their management software so that an IP address can be mapped to a virtual COM port. The device uses port 4098 and I created an access rule in ISA for [TCP out] for all protected networks, but the built-in rule called SBS Protected Networks Access Rule runs instead and my rule is listed way before this one. Also, the Lavalink says that the unit will broadcast to the network and their management app will respond to it. Is ISA blocking the broadcast and why doesn't my rule run for port 4098 activity? Here is a link to the device: http://www.lavalink.com/dev/index.php?id=47 By the way in their management app you can choose an icon that creates what they call "WAN activation". Note: This is different than if the device would appear after the broadcast. WAN activation loads a driver and creates a virtual COM port that seems to works about 80% of the time. The app we are running to access this COM port times out with a TX error about 20% of the time. Even though my rule does not run it still needs to be there for this to work as described. Also, unless I use DHCP it will not work either. Current I created a reservation to maintain a constant IP address.     - Cannot receive External POP3 Email I have been informed by my client that they cannot receive external pop3 email. They can send out to recipients, but not receive a reply. They only have 5 users and have an external company provide their website and email. I have contacted the external company who inform me there are no issues. I have checked the following Server Management Internet and Email Connect to the internet Left all the other settings as they were Enable Internet Email Use DNS to route e-mail Use the Microsoft connection for POP3 Mailbox Email domain name xxxxxxxx.com Pop3 mailbox mail.xxxxxxxx.com Port 110 user name - correct passwords - correct sending to correct Exchange mailboxes Enable exchange to remove attachment.     - Recommendations for VPN I'm looking for recommendations for VPN hardware to connect 4 small branch locations to our main office. We currently run SBS2000 and we have set up for occasional VPN connections (not permanent or full-time, but just conneccted when needed). We're in the process of upgrading to SBS2003 this summer, and then hopefully SBS2008 when it's out. Can you point me to hardware needed on both SBS end and the 4 remote locations which will allow a full time VPN connection, so, for example we can back-up the remote locations at night to the main SBS location.     - SBS 2003 Performance New [about 10 days old] 10 User SBS 2003 R2 Premium, with SQL installed. Plenty of [SuperMicro] hardware, AMD dual core 2.6Ghz, 4GB memory, 146GB SAS 15K Drives. Performance is generally excellent, but on occasion, when doing something [could not isolate any one particular task] on the server, the screen appears to freeze for a couple of seconds then we can continue to accomplish the task. On the performance chart, most times [but not all times] the paging/sec will spike. The Average Disk Queue Time [maximum <.125] and % Processor [maximum < 4.99] almost remains constant during the same time for the few seconds this event is happening. I was looking through some logs and did not see anything that jumps out at me, but I may be looking in the wrong place. Where should I be looking? What should I be looking to see? Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Ed Podowski One more note...some times during a remote access the connection to the server is lost.     - Windows SBS Update Services & WSUS I'm getting the following error message: "Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) Update Services is not running because it automatically turns off if you customize Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). For a list of specific settings that cause Windows SBS Update Services to turn off, see the Microsoft Web site. Even if WSUS is managing updates for your network, the accuracy of the status in the Windows SBS monitoring report or on the Update Services home page cannot be guaranteed. To use Windows SBS Update Services, reverse the changes that you have made to WSUS or reinstall Windows SBS 2003 R2" This is on SBS 2003 Premium R2. After checking previous topics it would seem the resolution is to uninistall R2 and then re-install. Is this correct? Two further questions: 1) The instructions from a previous topic include a step: "Check and Confirm the GPOs for WSUS are gone" - How do I do this (I'm not familiar with the meaning of the GPO TLA!!)? 2) Are there any user / application side effects I should expect?     - Trend WFBS Install On Vista? I am having trouble getting WFBS client to install on a Vista workstation using the web console. The PC is joined to the SBS domain and that part of the process went ok and things are working as expected. Re-directed My Document folders are on the server and network access works as it does on XP machines. When I attempt the install I am logged on to the Vista workstation as the domain admin (I've also tried local machine admin as well). I get the following error: Web browser-based agent installation Agent installation was unsuccessful. Possible reasons: a.. There was a problem with the browser's cache. Try deleting temporary Internet files. In Internet Explorer, click Tools > Internet Options. On the General tab, click Delete Files. The Delete Files window is displayed. Select the Delete all offline content check box, then click OK. b.. You do not have administrator rights to this computer. c.. A virus has been found during installation. d.. You have a 3rd party solution installed on this computer that Security Server was unable to remove. e.. You do not have enough disk space on your computer to complete the installation. Agent installation requires around 80MB disk space. Free up some space on the target drive by deleting unnecessary files and try again. f.. The Security Server installation program encountered an error. I uninstalled the McAfee AV software that came on the machine and disabled Windows Defender. I deleted the temp IE files.     - Backup works manually but not on scheduled Hi On a member windows 2003 R2 server I have scheduled a backup. The backup runs at the specified time but then quits after a few seconds. However if I run ntbackup manually, make the same selection as per scheduled one and run the backup it works.     - Connect to the internet wizard I have had this problem at a few sites. SBS setup with 2 NIC ADSL modem set as bridged/pass through Running the wizard I select a connection that requires a user name and password and fill in the fixed IP address and DNS fields Just the normal thing that is used and works most of the time.     - POP connector not downlaoding Hi We have problem with one user that his emails are not being downloaded by pop connector. We get the below message in event log; Event Source: POP3 Connector Event ID: 1029 Access was denied to the mailbox <mail.mydomian.co.uk> logging on as <user@mydomian.co.uk>. Verify the password for the mailbox account, and try again. However when we login to isp webmail then user's credentials work fine. The problem is with one user only the rest of them work fine.     - Add User wizard fails Hi everyone, Been a while since I've posted. I have a SBS 2003 Premium edition which had been running smooth until just recently. The Add User wizard will open, but after clicking the next button, it freezes and then closes. Event viewer shows an error Source: .Net Runtime 2.0 Error Event ID: 1000 Faulting application addusr.exe, version 5.2.2651.0, stamp 3f5fb736, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault address 0x0662f1e8. I have already attempted to do a repair install on .net 2.0 with no luck. Attempting to uninstall .net 2.0 results in an error saying that it will affect other installed programs. Downloading the redistributable pack results in an error saying that a newer version is already installed.     - Re: SBS '03, (1) XP user cannot browse internet, GPO issue? Hello there: Having a strange issue. We have a simple LAN, SBS '03, Symantec Corp 10.x, & XP Pro SP2 workstations. One XP user cannot browse the internet while everyone else works just fine. Ocassionally, browsing will work for a couple of minutes, but then ultimately fails (seems like related to a GPO?). Email & DNS work from the workstation, but internet browsing does not. I've uninstalled everything I can think of including Symantec, killed the user's profile, logged on as admin, installed Firefox... still no luck. If I boot the workstation into safe mode, internet browsing DOES work. I'm wondering if this issue is related to GPO's pushed from the server, which is why I am posting here. Also, RDP to the workstation does not work either although it is turned on (again, GPO related?), and I could not get the local firewall turned off for some time but eventually did. Also, I tried entering the registry key to ignore the GPO's, but this yeilded a bunch of errors in the event log, and still the problem persists. If anyone has input, I would greatly appreciate it.     - Exchange server super duper slow Hello all, I have an sbs2003 server that as of late has been experiencing major perofrmance issues. The server itself runs very few programs (qb database server, symantec endpoint server). There are about 40 user mailboxes,some over 10g (I know thats not good, but unfortuntely I cannot change that :( ) Over the last two weeks users have complained about slow performance of quickbooks and extremely poor performance of OWA. The priv1 database is about 73gb. I know there are alot of recommendations for exchange memory uses but they do not always fall into the sbs realm. Is there anything I can do to get my server back into optimal form? I have uninstalled the antivirus software temporarily, and I tried to do an offline defrag of the exchange db, but i keep running into a jcb.dll error. Any and all help is much appreciated. The server is about 5 months old, single quad core, 4g of ram and a raid5 with tons of unused space.     - RWW and possible port blocking of 4125 I have started to get problems with certain users being unable to connect to their PCs via RWW by one method eg 3G mobile broadband yet being able to connect via a wired connection and vice versa. When I have checked myself the relevant PC has always been accessible to me from my (external) location. They get as far as the list of PCs to connect to and then get a "connectivity cannot be established" message - I believe that this is the point that port 4125 becomes active. Is it possible that 4125 outbound is being blocked by these mobile broadband companies and possibly also by the administartors of some third party organisations where users sometimes work ? I gather that another port other than 4125 can be selected in SBS by editing the registry, but presumably I need to find out what ports these third party networks allow or I 'm still going to be inthe same situation.     - User Account Corrupt? I have an SBS2003 system with SP1 installed with 8 users on it. Recently one of the users reported that she can not open an excel spreadsheet on a shared network drive. Initially the problem occured with one file only, however it rapidly deteriorated to the point where no excel file on the network drive will work. (It shows a blank, dark background, although the cells appear to be present but are not visible). Local files and files on other network drives work OK. Office is installed on the workstations. The problem persists even if I log the user in on another workstation, i.e. it is not an Office problem. The same spreadsheets can be opened by anyone else on any other workstation, i.e. not a file or drive problem. The user has been accumulating HUGE numbers of e-mail messages in her Inbox exceeding storage limits repeatedly. Can there be aconnection there? Why only Excel? Has anyone come across a similar situation? Any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem? Temporarily, I set up another account for the user where everything works OK but she is adamant that her e-mails and contact lists must be made accessible. I can transfer the contact list to the new account using a pst file, but if the large e-mail volume was the cause in the first place it would be useless to transfer all of them as well. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.     - SBS 2003 Misconfigured? I apologize in advance for the length of this post, however I wanted to furnish as much information as possible to help me solve this problem. I have spent a great deal of time trying to solve this myself but I am at a complete roadblock at this point. I really need to get my system up and functional again. My SBS 2003 is setup with 1 NIC & 3 Win XP workstations. I am using a Netopia ADSL2/2+ 4pt Managed Switch that is connected to a netgear router. I needed the Netgear router because it has 8 ports and I have several printers besides my 3 workstations and server that I wanted to connect to it. My SBS 2003 Server and 3 workstations are all connected to the router. I am having trouble not being able to print from the server to a printer connected on one of the workstations. I get an â??access denied, unable to connectâ?? type message. I also lose connectivity between the WS and the server from time to time. I believe I have something misconfigured but I cannot figure it out. Any help in getting this resolved would be much appreciated. The configuration of the devices is as follows: Netopia router DHCP â??OFFâ?? Manually configured static IP from ISP DNS set to ISP DNS-1 & DNS-2 Netgear FVG318 router WAN IP set to one of the static IPâ??s assigned by ISP LAN IP of router manually set to 192.168.5.2 DHCP turned off Primary and Secondary DNS setup to my ISPâ??s DNS SBS 2003 Server Computer name is MSGSRV IP of server is 192.168.5.109 TCP/IP is configured so that DNS point to itself The alternate DNS is blank, should I set it to the ISP DNS-1? Default gateway is set to router 192.168.5.2 DHCP is configured, but I manually configured all IPâ??s on all computers after I started having problems. DHCP scope 192.168.5.100 to 192.168.5.150 IPâ??s on Workstations was Manually configured as 192.168.5.101, 192.168.5.110, and 192.168.5.108 because DHCP will not work. Each WS has its DNS pointed to the server local ip. Are there a set of diagnostics I can run that will help me pinpoint my issue?     - New External Nic & untangle server-Problems Installed a new external facing nic to speed up connection between an untangle sever which sits between modem and SBS box. Ran CEICW and all connections came backup----But the SBS will no longer hand out IP addresses when an IP repair is run on a client box. After an attempted repair it is limited or no connectivity---ala no internet is the result. If I go back in and manually set the IP to the old IP number-the one still shown on the SBS box dhcp server- then it works again and the internet is restored. This client is getting close to the limit on licenses which brought up another question.     - Network Places Some of the users are having problems seeing other computers on the network. I have only one network set up that everyone accesses. The server that is the domain controller and dns using ad is server 2003. the workstations are all xp. This is becoming more of an issue as more and more users are having this problem. what happens is that when they open my network places there are no computers listed at all. as well as when i got to entire network, microsoft windows networks, and enter the network that way, I get the same result. the computers are configured to point to the server for dns. i have a default desktop for all users that uses a logo stored on the server this way when i come up to a pc i know right away if their profile loaded correctly and that their connection to the server is existent. these users have no problem being connected to the network as short cuts to network resources work, mapped directories work, and the roaming profiles stored on the server have no problem. what can i do to be able to see those member computers?     - SBS Server 2003 R2 Premium Hello, I know this is going to be a weird question, but I don't know where else to turn. I currently needed to replace a Windows Server 2003 SBS server. What I did was load up a new SBS server with a new domain name and basically recreated all the roles from scratch. I then migrated all the data to the new server. Everything was working fine except the HP printer in the environment. They for some reason will not print and will fail immediately. I can ping them, I can browse the website URL, I can make configuration changes. I have configured a static IP address everything connects fine, but when I go to print it immediately fails. Any computer on the old domain can print without issues, and if I install the printer on my notebook which is not part of their domain it works fine. I have run through troubleshooting with HP and they do not have an answer for me. Any help would be appreciated. I have switched the printers to USB cables and for a short time I thought they were working, but slowly as a few days went by they all stopped working. Oh yeah on further note because the printer was under warranty HP replaced it with their advanced exchange program, so any network settings embeded in the printer would have been lost.     - Multiple domains and distribution groups Hello! I have two email domains handled by my SBS 2003 server, using ChooseFrom and SmartReply (both from August 2006) to take care of replies. It works great. I added a distribution group and sent a test message from my Yahoo account to the dist group address, then replied to it. It showed up in Yahoo as coming from my primary address, which is logical, because the dist group just sends it on to my primary address. My question is, can replies be set to come from the dist group's email address? That way, no matter who is in the group, the replies all go out from the group's address.     - Computer account not found Hi , Network setup - SBS 2003 R2 with AD,DNS,DHCP XP Pro - SP2 (26) After performng a SBS Migration to new hardware all PC's (25) except for 1 (Library1)can logon to th domain with no problems. I can ping the PC by name from the new server and it shows up under "Computers" on the Server. I tried using the username/password of the user and the administrator account in both normal and safe modes but could not logon. The error is: "Windows cannot connect to the domain,either because the domain controller is down orotherwisw unavailable, or because your computer account was not found".     - RWW into Multi-Monitor machine issue? I posted this before and it didn't get resovled. I have since tried a few things and am reposting it. The issue is I can't login to my desktop using RWW. I was able to for the past 3 years without any issue. I was thinking it was XP SP3, but some of the responses made it seem like that shouldn't be a problem. It was time to do a clean install of windows on my machine anyway and i thought that might clear out any issues with this (there were other little issues unrelated that i wanted to clean up as well)...so, it is nice and fast now but i STILL can't login from offsite using RWW...It still just goes back to the same screen showing the client systems... But, i got to thinking what else i'd changed...I do have my system setup with multiple monitors (4 to be exact...2 Apple Cinema Displays at 1920 x 1200 resolution and 2 Sony's at 1280 x 1024) - i'm wondering if that might be the issue and if anyone has had issues like that before...     - Fax Viewing This is probably Fax Service 101, but after searching quite a bit all over the Microsoft site, I am not finding anything discussing this rather basic topic. If we rout use fax services to rout to either a sharepoint site or a network share, how are users supposed to view the fax? There is no TIF viewer installed (PAINT is a bad option because with a mouse click a user can modify the fax image) and I don't see how to configure Fax Console (or Windows Fax and Scan in our case since we are all Vista) to access the Sharepoint site or network share.     - Question about security log error. I have a client running SBS 2003 (fully patched) but hosting a public website. They recently started getting event ID 529 in Security logs. I know it is obvious that someone has discovered their server is listening on port 80. The log states that the login process is "advapi" with an authentication package of "MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0". I am just curious as to what the remote user could be doing to cause the server to try and authenticate on port 80? Perhaps we don't have something configured quite right or is this something that is to be expected hosting a website on a domain controller?
