Dear Forumers,

I would like to install a (wireless) router between the internet plug
on the wall and my PC at work. Ordinarily, my machine is connected to
the internet through the company internal network.

I would like to set up a router because I could plug a second machine
to the router and access the internet from that second machine, and
maybe use a handheld device.

So I set up a router between my PC and the internet plug on the wall.
For some reason, I then could not access the internet at all from my
first machine. Is there something obvious I am doing wrong? How hard
is it to do what I am trying to do? Should I contact my company's tech
guys?

I greatly appreciate your help.

Cheers everyone!

If you are trying to circumvent the company network to connect directly =
to the internet, its not going work, even with the router
and if you unplug your first machine from the router and back to the =
plug on the well...it will be just fine

Yes you should call your company's tech guy if you need assistance

Assuming you're not trying to do something unapproved by your IT department,
I recommend installing a wireless access point (not a router) following the
procedure in the document below. (Just plugging in wireless is inviting
strangers to access your network from the parking lot). If you need a
second wired PC, I recommend a second LAN port or a switch.
