hi
we have just installed a new server 2003 system from an old 2000 which worked
we are not recieving smtp mail
we have 2 domains jumbo.co.uk which uses pop3
and
jumbo-inflatables.co.uk that uses smtp port 25
ip 195.137.49.186
using a telnet tool from zoneedit.com we can send messages to a test account
from jumbo.co.uk
but we get the error message 550 5.7.1 returned to the sender when we use
jumbo-inflatables.co.uk

thank you in advance for any help you can give

OK first of all you would be best served if you posted this question in the
Exchange newsgroup. Secondly your POP3 has nothing to do with you not
receiving SMTP mail as they are both different domains as well. firt of all
you need to let us know who hosts your SMTP mail server. You or your ISP?
Thirdly .................

Where do your MX records point to?

No, the question is in the right group, there's an SBS on one of the IP's
associated with jumbo-inflatables.co.uk.

It doesn't appear that there's an Exchange Server listening on port 25 at
that IP. Have you run the CEICW to configure Exchange?

it looks like during exchange config you have set the domain name as
mx1.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk. Re-run CEICW and adjust the Exhange config,
replace mx1.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk with jumbo-inflatables.co.uk, Exchange
want the _domain_ rather than _server_ name. You still want to use
mx1.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk for the web config (security cert and, if ISA is
involved (as it appears to be), publishing rule).

Bit of an inconvenient name for users to remember for remote access though,
I'd either replace the mx1 with something that users are more likely to
remember (say office.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk or
remote.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk) or set this up as an additional record. Use
this for web config/cert.

TINY thing that annoys me but doesn't much matter to DNS is that
mx1.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk has been set up in DNS as a sub-zone rather than
an A record in jumbo-inflatables.co.uk, means that sending servers need to
query DNS for two zones, 1st to find the MX for jumbo-inflatables.co.uk then
to find the IP of mx1.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk. I would delete the
mx1.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk zone and create it as an A record (if I was
going to keep this name).

You can probably confirm this by sending mail to
USER@mx1.jumbo-inflatables.co.uk, I expect it to work. ail from your userrs
should also appear to have this address, unless you have also manually
modified addresses.
