Hi All,

Hope everybody had a great weekend!

I'm running SBS 2003 R2 w/exchange. Regarding distribution groups: Can you
create them using public emaill addresses? In other words, I want to create
a DL that contains outside recipients instead of SBS users as members.

Any help on this would be really appreciated.

Sure, you *can* set up external addresses as AD contacts, but note that it
isn't a good way to manage your company's shared contacts/address book
needs, if that's your goal.. A public contacts folder is probably wiser for
that.

For AD contacts - see http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF015.html but
ignore the "forwarding" stuff. I'd create an OU under MyBusiness\Users and
call it SBSContacts (I don't like to put these in SBSUsers because I'm too
anal-retentive but it's your call)

Thanks for for the response guys.

And yes, I'm trying to manage public contacts through AD. Any other words of
advise would be appreciated. If there is a better way to manage public
contacts, please let me know.

This isn't good unless it's a relatively small, and static, list of contacts
& you don't need your users to edit them.

Use a public contacts folder.....all your users can access it as an address
book in Outlook.
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF018.html may help (written for E2k but
this hasn't changed much).

Is there a better way to manage this outside of AD? Thanks for the response.

I didn't realize you mentioned "public folder" in your initial post. You are
right, that may be the best way to manage public contacts. Any known
how-to's for this?
thanks,
