Hello,
i have fax services configured on my server to do automatic answer after 1
ring(mdem is a motorola SM56 pci modem), but it isn't working, i dial and it
rings, rings, rings, nothing.
if i open the modem status page and chose to manually answer, THEN it says
"ringing" and answers.
my phoneline is behing supplied by a linksys SP2100 ATA adapter.
if i put any kind of pots telephone on the line and dial to it, it rings
perfectly.
any ideas?

Have you tried answering on more than one ring ? Are the modem and the
ATA adapter configured for the same country ? Have you tried contacting
Linksys ?

i've solved this by adding an external 10yr old serial mdem, it detects and
answers as it should, the SM56 remains as it was.
thanks for the reponses

Anytime you have a choice of using a MODEM, never get an internal one,
they are always the source of hours (or more) of lost productivity.

We have about 40 fax modems, all of them external, on systems that use
GFI Fax via Comtrol 8 port serial cards and never have problems with
them, in use for years.

We have thousands of GFI FAXmaker customers using our internal PCI and
PCI Express products. I don't think it's as simple as 'internal' V
'external'.
