    - Remote Windows 2003 server setup Hi All, Currently have SBS2003 in main office with 15 clients. We also have a satellite office with 4 users who have a SBS2000 server and they access email via RPC over HTTP using outlook 2003. This works well but the SBS200 server needs replacing and I have a replacement server with two NICs and a new Windows 2003 server OS. I don't need it as a remote DC but just need to set it up so users can continue to access the main server via RPC over HTTP. I am used to SBS2003 so not sure how to set up the windows 2003 server. Do I set up DHCP then run DCPromo to set up AD then add my four users? I want to be able to occasionally access the remote server via VPN do I need to do anything else. There is no firewall except what comes with Windows 2003 and the router. Charity application so cost is an issue here.     - Setting up a basic non admin account for my clerks Hello- I would like to set up a basic non admin account for my clerks to use that would essentially lock down the workstation which is a cash register/POS machine. What I am interested in doing is preventing access to changing the time and using internet explorer, etc....but allowing the third party programs (cc processing, etc) to access the internet. The computer logs into a domain at the current moment...could someone just point me in the right direction...is there a way to do this without setting up complicated group policies, etc?     - Microsoft Forefront Hi Everyone, I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were with regards to putting Microsoft Forefront security on a SBS Premium R2 server and workstations. Is the product ready for prime time? Does it install well or seriously impact the resources on a SBS lan? Is it cost effective...or are there better solutions out there? Also, a side note...does anyone think its necessary to put a Dell Remote Access card on a server given that you access all those same features from within the Dell Open Management console?     - SBS 2003 - Move companyweb from one server to another Hi I could really do with some help on this one... We currently have our companies intranet running in Sharepoint on our SBS 2003 server (companyweb) I need to backup the whole of companyweb and move/restore it to a new SBS 2003 installation located on a different server in a new domain.. I've looked around the web for info, but I'm getting very lost in the suggested ways of doing it...., especially if you are restoring it to a new server with a different name/domain.... I don't know a lot about Sharepoint so we need to keep this simple.... I was wondering if there are any tools etc to do the job....?, or a dead simple "bullet proof" way of doing it...?     - Server died best way of rejoining clients to new server Hi, my sbs server died a few days ago. I have just fininshed installing the new server and have kept the name / domain / IP address the same as the old. Whats the best way of joining the clients to the new server without losing their existing profiles ? I have taken backups of the local documents and also exported the exchange mail on the clients to pst files as a precaution. I had a scare early on today when I couldn't log into my machine, I finally traced this to the fact the new server was running and I hadn't added the accounts back to the server, obviously the clients could see the new server and this was getting in the way of the locally cached credentials, after turning off the new server the clients could log in again.     - Outlook 2007 HTTP and SBS 2003 connection problem Hello, We have an issue where configuring RPC over HTTP works fine for Outlook 2003 clients but not for Outlook 2007 clients (all Windows XP Pro computers). The Outlook 2007 clients continually receive a login popup.     - Vista, Outlook 2007 & Profiles Apologies if this is the wrong group for this post - if so, would appreciate advice re more appropriate group. Scenario is SBS 2003 Sp1 server with 5 users, 4 XP SP2 machines with Outlook 2003, and one user running Vista Business SP1 with Outlook 2007. The SBS box is fully patched and has the Vista updates. Since joining the Vista machine to the domain, each day the Server Event Logs have had Event Id 673 (Service Ticket Request) and Event ID 675 (Pre-Authentication) Errors from the Vista box. Have tried to research these and followed some advice but the errors remain. So, I decided to remove the Vista box from the domain, join a workgroup, create a new machine name, and bring it back to the domain using connectcomputer. In the past, this procedure has worked fine for XP. Did all that - errors seem to have gone - BUT: 1. The user wants her nicknames back 2. The user wants her favourites back 3. The user wants her photos back (They were in Vista's Photo gallery.) Question 1. What happened to her old domain profile??? (In XP we know where it is and we can recover the photos and the Outlook *.nk file. etc.) Question 2. This user has local admin rights on this machine but keeps getting ACCESS DENIED to some folders under her user name.     - Two domains in Exchange 2003 Hi, I am visiting the oft mentioned two domains in Exchange issue. I have added the second domain to the default recipient policy and enabled it. However, I was not able to receive email to the added domain until I went to the smtp virtual server and allowed the second domain to relay. If I do not do that the email addressed to that domain would be bounced back as undeliverable. Nothing I have read says I need to do this, but that is how is seems to be working. I got a call today from a new client stating that their mail.xxxxxxxxxx.com address was being redirected to a Banking Phishing website.     - SBS 2003 Setup fails after choosing install paths I'm re-installing SBS 2003, and after it gets to the part where you choose components (Exchange, Fax, etc.) and tell it where you want to store the Users Shared Folders and other paths, I click "Next", and the Wizard disappears. There's no error or anything. If I try to "Continue" installing SBS 2003, it asks again for the company address, which components I want and the paths...and disappears again. It doesn't matter if I use the default paths or specify my own--it just fails. Rebooting hasn't helped, and I tried to re-install again, but now the install routine can't load "iastor.sys" from the floppy for the Intel-based RAID. (Stupid floppies!) So, if I get a new floppy disk, copy the RAID controller back and try installing again, does anyone have any idea why the Wizard would fail after choosing paths? I did notice that SBS downloaded about a dozed "updates" even before I got to this point--they're listed in "Add/Remove". I'm wondering if any of those could be conflicting with the Wizard.     - ISA Server Capabilities for Reporting Traffic? I have installed a few SBS 2003 R2 Premium setups and love the control of network/internet traffic via ISA Server. What I'm curious about is do I have the ability to log the internet traffic and produce some reports (even customized ones I can create) that can tell me more about internet usage, at a user level, such as times of traffic, what internet sites were hit, how long were users at that site?     - Help with Client Disconnects I have an issue I have been trying to solve for the better part of about 4 months with a client. They have SBS 2003, SP2, Exchange SP2 all other windows updates applied. The machine had Symantec Endpoint Server on it but I removed it. The issue is that clients continue to experience disconnects, very short duration, just enough to bump them from the network and foul out the database connections to the server. Anyway I removed symantec MR2 SP1 because I was thinking this was causing the issue but it is still happening. Also, there was another DC on the network which was having replication issues so I demoted that DC now there is only the SBS box that is a DC on the network. That said I am spinning my wheels on what could be causing these disconnects, they are only for like 10 seconds but they still kick them from the database and its very annoying for them. The disconnects happen so fast that there is no way to really know if they are getting disconnected from just the local subnet or from the internet as well. There are about 15 clients all running XP and most of them are having this same issue. The clients are not getting disconnected when they are idle, they can be working in a database and all of a sudden the network drops off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Outlook license with SBS 2003 Hi all. Quick question. I have SBS 2003 SP1 (not R2). I know each SBS CAL also gives you a license for Outlook 2003. Question is, if I install Outlook on a client, can they use Outlook to access another Exchange server? Or do they have to use Outlook to connect to the SBS server?     - SQL Reporting Services I'm running SQL Reporting Services 2005 on my SBS Premium 2003. I have it installed in the Default Website. It runs well except for one issue. After rendering a report, if you select the "Acrobat (PDF) File" format and click on "Export", it will come up with a File Download prompt to save the file, but it wants to name the file "Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd". This behaviour happens for all the reports. On other installations of Reporting Services on Windows Server 2003 the behaviour is that it the prompt will have the default of the name of the report with the pdf file extension (such as "MonthlySales.pdf").     - RWW slow to load for users Hello I have a customer who uses RWW to a great extent. However, he has noticed a problem with some of his users. When they initially connect it can take several minutes to display the menu screen. However, those users who have domain admin rights (for other reasons) get the menu displayed more quickly, despite being on the same machine / broadband link etc. Infact, in all my testing, it appears that they only difference is this group membership. When I do this I select a mapped drive (as well as the C: drive). This works fine. But when I do the same using a scheduled task then the mapped drive is skipped.     - 2008 Terminal Server not showing on RWW as Application Server Hi All, I have an SBS2003 Premium running on DELL 2950. I have added sufficient memory and installed MS Virtual Server followed by the installation of MS Windows Server 2008 and then installed the role of Terminal Server. I have installed MS Office and from the LAN using Remore Desktop it works fine. A problem I have is that when I run RWW from a remote client, there is no icon or option to select "Application Server" that was there for the Windows 2003 Terminal Server that I have used in previous organisations.     - SQL Writer error message on bootup. On booting our SBS Server 2003 Sp1 (Not R2) I receive the following error message on the screen. SQLDumper library failed initialization. Your installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with. Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem. After looking at the System logs in the event viewer the following 5 error messages appear: ID: 7022 Source: Service Control Manager The Kerberos Key Distribution Center service hung on starting. ID: 7009 Source: Service Control Manager Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Windows Internal Database (MICROSOFT##SSEE) service to connect. ID: 7000 Source: Service Control Manager The Windows Internal Database (MICROSOFT##SSEE) service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. ID: 7022 Source: Service Control Manager The SQL Server VSS Writer hung on starting. ID: 7034 Source: Service Control Manager The SQL Server VSS Writer service terminated unexpectedly. And there is 1 error in the Application Log in the Event Viewer as follows: ID: 1008 Source: Perflib The open procedure for service "PSched" in DLL "C:\Windows\System32\pschdprf.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The status code returned is the first DWORD in the attached data. It was recommended that I install SQL Server 2003 Sp2 to fix the problem, so I downloaded SQL Server 2003 Sp2 from Microsoft and tried to install with the following result: During setup a message window appears saying that it detected the following SQL Server 2005 features: MSXML 6.0 Parser. After clicking continue it says there are no locked files and then it appears to commence installation when a error message appears saying "Hotfix.exe encountered a problem and needs to close, so i then click on a view summary button but it contains no data, the program then closes.     - PC specific vpn issues Hello, I have 10 computers that CAN connect to my SBS 2003 pptp VPN. I have 1 user who cannot. He is running XP sp2. He gets 721 error. I can run pptpclnt / pptpsrv successfully from this client, so GRE is not the issue. (Dell server / 2 NICs; 1 NIC connected to local network; 1 NIC connected to public network. I have rerun CEICW, reinstalled RAS on the server. I have msconfiged and booted very clean on his PC (no AV, firewall, defender, etc) I tried connecting to another company's SBS vpn and have same issue. I can connect to vpn with his account on another computer. It fails with any account I try on his computer. So, it has to be computer specific. The fact the pptpclnt / pptpsrv succeeded really has me stumped. Any ideas?     - Teeny tiny text on Company Web Site After a server crash and subsequent running of CHKDSK (which found a few index errors and repaired the usn journal) the text on the Company web site and the HTML sections of the Windows 2003 SBS Management Console is very small and almost unreadable.     - Remote Wipee a WM6 Evening. I have been authorized to begin planning and deployment of Windows Mobile 6 devices to our field workers which will be using PDA/Mobile phones from Verizon Wireless (More specifically the Motorola Q). I have finished almost all my policy checks with the exception of Remote Wipe. I can't seem to find this anywhere on the server. How do we remote wipe a WM6 device in the field if it is lost? I saw on a SBS 2003 promo video an area on the server that looked like SharePoint Services 2.0. The problem is, we do not use SharePoint Services 2.0 (we use 3.0) and as such I removed SharePoint 2.0 early last year.     - SQLDebugger Logon Locally I posted this on SQL newsgroup but I have received no answers so i am reposting here. THE PROBLEM When i came into the office today I hit ctrl-alt-del and brought up the logon menu. To my surprise the name in the User field was "SQLDebugger". I was under the impression that this account was used only iternally to the prgram and that by default it did not have local account logon privalleges. Further, the event logs show five logons by the SQLDebugger from the IP address 222.137.205.131...mainland china... THE QUESTION Is there a loophole being exploited?     - EventID: 101, 103 + 108 (Software installation policy problems) They are all a variation of this: Software Installation failed due to the error listed below. The system cannot find the path specified. Additional information may have been logged. Review the Policy Events tab in the console or the application event log for events between 6/26/2008 1:56:18 PM and 6/26/2008 1:56:18 PM. In short, the only bit of software I have a policy install is the User Hive Cleanup tool. By the error given you'd think that the workstation couldn't get to the installer. However browsing via UNC gets me there with no qualms. So I figured maybe the network isn't 'ready' yet.. so I set a policy to 'wait for network'. This is the same machine that earlier in the week I posted about it's refusal to get GPO's from the server. Now that that got 'fixed' (by itself no less) this is the last of my current problems with it.     - Outlook over internet RPC not working Hi all. We have two laptops at a jobsite . One can connect with Outlook over the Internet and other one cannot. Both are joined to the SBS server at the main office, but obviously they are not connected to it at this time. they are at a jobsite trailer. I have double checked and triple checked all the settings compared to what SBS says in the REMOTE documentation about using RPC Outlook. One laptop connects fine, the other does not. I even logged in as a local user on the trouble laptop (instead of the domain user) and it didn't help. Outlook prompts for the username (domain\username) and password , sits there, then eventually says "Disconnected". Never says 'Connected' unless the laptop is on the LAN with the SBS server. I know it's not the SBS since I can connect to the troubled mailbox from here on a different computer. Just did it. And the other laptop in the same trailer on the same DSL connection works fine (with a different account of course).     - Changing Server IP Range When I set up a client SBS 2003 I used the IP range of 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.252 Giving the Server a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 The router has an IP address of 192.168.1.254 I have DHCP enabled on the server where the clients get their IP address from. Having set up remote access for several users, they cannot connect to the server. This is because their hope ISP router uses the same IP range.     - Proliant ML350 G4 Server SBS 2003 & Server 2003 Console Freezes Hello All; We are running two Proliant ML350 G4 Servers. One server is running MS SBS 2003, the other is running MS Serve 2003 Std. Both are on the latest MS Service Packs. Sys Vol have 4 Gig or greater available on both systems. The data drives have greater than 50% space available. Both servers are runnng ADS and are the primary domain controllers. Both servers have been recently experiencing console freezes/ unresponsive. The servers can be pinged, RDP works, but when issuing Server Restart through RDP, server will not shut down. Have had to hard restart to get console to return. Have checked all Event Logs, etc. and cannot find an indicator as to the cause. This issue has been occuring more frequently after applying the most recent security packs to the servers.     - GPO Delegation "Apply Group Policy" deny for Domain admins does not I'm trying to diagnose a problem with my WSUS/WindowsUpdate GPO. So I go into delegation and tell it to Deny application for Domain Admins and I run gpupdate /force /boot and re-log in. However, all of those settings are still applied? If I disable the policy as a whole and gpupdate /force /boot then most of the settings change back to their default. The exception being that I had previously told the GPO to disallow going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com so that people can't manually patch their systems. However even upon disabling that GPO I cannot go to the WU site. All the other items (such as my automatic update preferences) have reverted back. At any rate, I guess that's a three part question: 1) Why why I deny this policy does it still apply where as Denying my IE7 GPO works as I think it should (ie the settings revert back). 2) Why can't I go to the WU site even with my GPO disabled? I ran RSOP and checked this particular policy and it is set to 'not defined'. 3) Why even after disabling the GPO itself can I not go to the WU site? It tells me a policy is set disabling it. An example from the policy report: User Configuration > Windows Settings > Folder Redirection > Application Data Group: DomainAdmin Path: \\FileServer\Admin\%USERNAME%\AppData Grant User exclusive rights...: Enabled Move the contents of App...: Enabled Policy Removal Behavior: Leave Contents This has been mirrored to four other groups, to four other locations, for App Data, Desktop, My Docs, and Start Menu. The share has the permissions: Everyone: Full Control The folders created for Appdata, Desktop, etc have the permissions: Admin: Full Control %USERNAME%: Full Control I still have the default policies enabled and have scanned through them but can't see a reason for there to be a conflict or problem. The problem is, since the change, if you try to run a iexplore shortcut (for example) from the QuickLaunch bar (effectively AppData folder), from the Desktop, or from MyDocs, you receive a permissions error: "C:\Program Files....iexplore.exe" "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" This also happen regardless of what you try to execute within the above listed folders (shortcut, exe, etc). Shortcuts will run from the start menu however, despite the start menu folder sharing mirrored policy and permissions as the other 3 folders. I'm stumped, anyone know what I've done wrong?     - SBS 2003 to SBS2003 R2, new hardware Hi All, I'm just about to move our SBS2003 Pre SP1 server to new hardware at the same time I'm going to upgrade to SBS 2003 R2. Out current server has very limited space about 1.5GB on the System drive and 2.5GB where exchange data files are installed. I'd prefer not to have to upgrade the SBS to SP1, but exchange is at SP2 already.     - SBS2003 NTbackup overwrite/delete problem I am having a problem backing up my SBS 2003 SP2 server to a Netgear NV+ NAS using NTBackup. I have NTBackup configured to save 3 copies of the .bkf file in the \\readynas\Server Name\Backup Files folder. The backups work fine until I have 3 backup files in the Backup Files folder and the 4th backup file has to overwrite the oldest file. At that time the backup will fail with a Event ID: 5634. Eventually the oldest backup file is deleted, but NTbackup has already aborted by then. A sample failed backup log appears at the bottom of this post. After doing some additional testing, I have confirmed that the my problem with oldest backup deletion by NTbackup is the amount of time required to delete a 82GB backup file from the NAS. Deleting one of these files from my server can take 2-3 minutes or longer. I think that due to this delay, NTbackup is aborting before the oldest backup is deleted. If the backup file size is smaller (42Gb for example), the oldest backup file is successfully deleted and the new backup completes successfully. How can I resolve this problem? Do I need to modify my Small Business Backup Script.bks (file contents below) file somehow? Any suggestions are appreciated.     - Shared calendars with OWA issues Hi, I have problems viewing 1 users shared calendar with OWA. All others appear fine, and if I use Outlook I can view this calendar. I am using outlook to set the share permissions (you have to, can't do it with OWA) I am using this method to view the shared calendar with OWA, log into OWA, and then add /username/calendar to the url. This method seems to work properly for all users except for 1, and of course this is really the only user we need to have her calendar shared. (Murphy's law, and I am not exempt!) When we try this method for this user, we get a "The Page cannot be found" 404 page, that appears to be generated by IIS. I know this is a clue, but can't find the culprit. Further testing shows me that a user using this method that does not have permission to view the calendar gets the login screen and not the error page. We are using sbs2003 standard, and outlook 2003 that comes with it. We would love to make this work with OWA, so I can set this calendar up as a shortcut from bosses desktop.     - Open Relay Issues with SBS 2003 I'm running SBS 2003 Standard with SP2. All of a sudden my server is starting to get blacklisted due to open relay issues. Nothing has changed, however. I have verified the relay restrictions on the Default SMTP Virtual Server and they're the standard settings that are usually on an SBS server following the use of the Internet Connection Wizard. The granted IPs are 127.0.0.1, 192.168.16.2 (255.255.255.0) and my external LAN NIC, which is a valid IP address. The "Allow all computers which successfully..." checkmark is selected as well. I do have a valid reverse DNS entry and MX record on my external DNS record. I am using the standard R&RA firewall settings that comes with SBS Standard. What is wierd is that some of the external open relay tests come back negative and some come back possitive even thought I'm using the same IP/host when running the tests. I've used http://www.abuse.net/relay.html, http://www.spamhelp.org/shopenrelay/ and also followed the Microsoft KB to test for open relay, which comes back negative. It seems that the tests that run multiple open relay checks at the same time are getting a few through, but the ones that run a single test comes back blocked/negative.     - SBS 2003: Some Services Do not Start on Reboot I have an SBS 2003 Professional installed. Everything is working normally. However, when updates are installed which require the server to reboot, either the Information Store will not start or the Firewall Service will not start. I have a dual core Intel Core2Duo 2.0 GHz processor with 4 GB of memory.     - adding sbs2003 to existing domain I am adding a SBS2003 server to an existing network. I have and will follow http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884453 I had an SBS on this network once before (it was at one point, the only AD)... but after another server (Server 2003 - NOT an SBS) was added a problem occurred where users couldn't connect to the network unless the SBS server was up. I had set the Server2003 was AD/GC I need to make sure that users can login and access the other server, even if for some reason the SBS becomes unavailable. DHCP is on the router (I know, I know...) I'll continue to run DNS on both servers. Do I _have_ to disable the GC on the Server2003? Is there anything else I should do?     - Server Management not working correctly While in server management console, I've got a couple of problems. First the font size for the side bar on the left has turned very small and is almost unreadable. All pages have the small font on the left menu. Also, I cannot use the "add user" or "add client computer" options. When I select these links I simply go back to either the list of users or computers. service. This is not a recommended security configuration. Credentials
for Dynamic DNS registrations may be configured using the command line "netsh
dhcp server set dnscredentials" or via the DHCP Administrative tool.

What are the correct credentials to use here? I don't want to use Administrator
due to password changes. Any suggestions on best practices?
