Running SBS 2003 Premium. Got a staff member who has asked for a
"loosening" of ISA so she can get to her GMail account. She says "half the
time she is disconnected" when trying to access the site.
I don't have a specific rule for or against GMail, but I recently used
ISAServer.org's and MS's papers on security for ISA and hardening of ISA, so
think that is the reason.

I'm personnally against any loosening of ISA, but would like some comments
on whether my settings are preventing her access, which rule(s)/setting(s),
and whether it's an acceptable risk.

I've set up my gmail account as an IMAP account, and access it from within
Outlook. I have a specific rule that allows IMAP connections through ISA.

Never thought of that. Hadn't dealt with IMAP before, so I'll do some
searches on it in SBS and see if I can find how to do that.

Thanks,
Mike

Is she getting paid to use Gmail?

Ever since google added an ajax google talk client to the gmail page,
connections can be flaky. I'd check with her to see if *GMAIL* is the
problem (doubtful) or if she is "disconnected" from google talk within gmail
(my vote.)

Sometimes getting to the heart of what an end-user means vs. what they say
is half the battle. If I'm correct in my guess, you have to make a business
decision whether IM is a company priority.

No. She tells me she has a "lot" of email addresses in it she doesn't want
to transfer over, so she uses both for work.

No, it's just the email. IMO, she doesn't want to take the time to transfer
over all the email addresses she has from GMail to her work Outlook Address
Book.
