    - Getting Administrator access to roaming profile folders, need some I've set up Roaming profiles but can't access the folders from my administrator account. I read a post that says I have to do the following: 5. If you want the administrators group to automatically have permissions to the profiles folders, you'll need to make the appropriate change in group policy. Look in computer configuration/administrative templates/system/logon - there's an option to add administrators group to the roaming profiles permissions. Where exactly do I find this?     - Sharepoint companyweb alert issues We are using Sharepoint 2.0 for document and vacation calendar sharing. Recently we've promoted the DC from an SBS box to a Windows Server 03 Stnd box but have kept Sharepoint on the SBS server. I am trying to configure the alerts to send from companyweb.domain.local, they do reach the intended recipients but the links within the alerts point to companyweb.com directing them out to the internet, not back to the SBS server. My account works properly but I am setup as an admin on on the SBS server - not sure if that matters, all users alerts are set the same. Any suggestions?     - Licensing on SBS.. that 75 limit Hi All, Does anyone know what *technically* happens if you go over the 75 user/computer limit of SBS ? Also, has anyone here applied the transition pack before (to a non-R2 system) ? If so how did it go? I've been warned about having to remove IE7, uninstall Exchange SP2 and a bunch of other nightmares that makes me want to delay installing the Transition pack, and need to know what will happen..     - Internet Access with ISA 2004 We have ISA 2004 installed W/SBS 2003 . I would like to control internet access. I would have some users with full access to the internet and i would like to allow only certain web sites for other users (all different). What is the easiest way to set this up. I had it set up in ISA 2000, but when we upgraded, i seem to have lost all that configuration.     - USEREVT Errors 1058 and 1030 Hello, Over the past week or so, our server (2003 SBS) has been hanging up network connections / mappings. It spits out these two errors; Userenv / Event ID: 1058 Description: Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=domain,DC=com. The file must be present at the location <\\domain\sysvol\domain\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Access is denied. ). Group Policy processing aborted. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://support.microsoft.com. Userenv / Event ID: 1030 Description: Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. A message that describes the reason for this was previously logged by the policy engine. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://support.microsoft.com. A reboot seems to fix it temporarily. I've followed the link on one of the events and it gave me a procedure on making sure the domain name was correct in the registry, it was.     - nOOb question --- Can I get my browser to use port other than 80 to I'm not a technical guy, but I always curious about technology. I read a lot, from many online sources, but as a non-technical guy, there are things that get me very confused. I guess I am not smart at all. For example, I know that the Web Browsers, be it Internet Explorer or FireFox or Safari, all use port 80 for web browsing. I guess part of the reason they do that is because it's the common standard, and part (as I read the materials from many online sources) is because of security. But I still want to know, as a user, can I change my browser so that I'd use, let's say, port 3863, to browse, instead of the default port 80? (That is assuming port 3863 isn't reserved for any other purposes.) If the answer to the above is a "Yes", then I would like to know further. Such as -- Let's say I change my browser so that it uses port 3863 instead of port 80. Can I still successfully uses it to browse websites as usual? But before that, how to make my browser, - let's say I am using Internet Explorer, version 7, - how to get IE7 to use port 3863 instead of port 80, for browsing purposes? Would changing from port 80 to port 3863 poses any security risk? Is there anywhere online that I can get more information regarding questions such as these? I've tried to find the answer. Unfortunately, most of the sites assume that their visitors are already technicaly savvy, unfortunately for a dumb person like me, the more I read their articles, the more blur I get. I think what I mean is, is there any down_to_earth place online that give dimwits such as yours truly a very basic idea of what is a port, how to change port, how to forward port, how to change browser configuration, et cetera ....     - SMTP Queues "hang" intermittently I have a problem at one of my accounts that has me stumped. Occasionally (and recently more oftent) SMTP queues for a particular receiving domain will just hang. And they will stay that way for days and more. Sometimes stopping/starting the information store will clear one or more of them, but perhaps not all. Sometimes running eseutil might free things up. But there doesn't seem to be any consistency. One day, each time I stopped/started the exchange services, a queue would clear. But then I had to do it again until another one cleared. Once they are all cleared, they might run fine for a good while; but then it happens again. This is really frustrating for me and even more so for my client. I can see nothing in the event log that might indicate what is happening. I have SMTP logging turned on but not really sure what to look for there to see what might be causing this. When it happens it is not all email. Some domains go through just fine. But when the queue for a domain gets stuck, all email for that queue is stuck.     - Stop 51/Registry_Error/Constant reboot Hello, Shut down server for some electrical work. When starting back up server winds up in a loop, with a error 51/Registry_Error. Last changes that were done were FTP Service install, and allowance of new IP address's for external access' about 2 weeks ago. I can boot the machine in safe mode, so I removed the FTP Service (add/remove programs). Still having the problem. Noticed this error in event log right before machine reboots. Event ID: 4275 Error parsing XML file. Reason: XML document must have a top level element. Incorrect XML ErrorCode : 0xC00CE558 Interceptor : 14 OperationType : Populate Table : MBProperty ConfigurationSource : file:///C:/WINDOWS/system32/inetsrv/MetaBase.xml Row : 0 Column : 0 File was empty, so I just renamed it.     - Some mail not getting through. Lately we have been informed that a small amount of folks are having their email bounced back by us. It is usually whole companies (domains). I have half heartadly tried to remedy this until my wife told me she no longer can send email to our domain and has ordered me to fix it.     - Problem with Connect Computer Wizard I am setting up a new SBS 2003 R2 Standard Server and Win XP Pro workstations. The server has only one NIC. I am having problems setting up the workstations. I was successful on the first computer, after initial problems, but I donâ??t remember what I did. I have internet connectivity, but when I try to run the Connect Computer Wizard it cannot find the server. I have tried using just a router (D-Link DI-704) and a firewall appliance (Freeguard 100). With the firewall I set the primary DNS to the internal adapter on the SBS. If I explore Complete Network I can logon and view the server. I am also having a problem with a Canon multifunction machine. I can print to it set up a network printer with a static IP address, but I get an error when I try to scan documents and send them to a shared folder on the server.     - WSUS temlog.ldf getting too large Our templog.ldf file in the MSSQL$WSUS folder is getting to 10GB. It has grown about 6GB in the last week. I have tried reading up on shrinking the file with DBCC SHRINKFILE, but I haven't gotten that to work. I backed up the templog file last week, then tried the SHRINKFILE this week and it wasn't recognized as a command. In another forum someone said I needed to change from Full to Simple Recovery and I think I have done that from the Command Line. I have moved all of the downloaded updates to another drive and now the clients can't find them. I thought I did it as I was supposed to. But that's a secondary problem until I get the templog reduced. We have less than 2GB of free space on that drive. Would really appreciate some help. Thanks.     - read receipt for Outlook generic user...user has exceptions i have a generic users account that is not a person but a program. The username only exists for the purpose of emailing out our billing statements. What i want to do is have this username's email (abc@company.com) prompt a read receipt when the recipant recieves the email. Can this be done inside of SBS? or does it have to be done w/in Outlook or outlook web? I would prefer to do this inside SBS if possible. Please help, thank you.     - SharePoint 3.0: problems with external access Hi all, We have SBS 2003 standard SP2 behind a Sonicwall TZ 180. We installed SharePoint 3.0 side-by-side with SP 2.0, no problem during installation, we followed the MS instructions for SP 3.0 on SBS 2003. Everything works fine internally. We like SP 3.0, which we find a great improvement over SP 2.0. So far so good. The trouble is with external access, which we find incredibly complex to set up and so far does not work. Here is what we did : - Under SP 3.0 Central Administration/Operations/Alternate Access Mappings/Public Zone URLs, we have 1) under Â«default Â» the internal url ; 2) under Â« internet Â» https://ip-address:portnumber, where the port number was the one allocated to the site during the initial set up of the intranet following the MS intructions (ie "25364") and the ip-address is our static external address (also used to access RWW without difficulty, for example). - Under IIS, we found the SP 3.0 web site created during setup, but with no Certificate, which we then added (we used the existing cert also used for RWW), and specified a SSL port different from the TCP one (which is the above 25364, so that the SSL is, for example, 8000). I think that I donâ??t really understand how the SSL port works and what it is for, so I suspect that I am doing something wrong here. - In the Sonicwall, we opened both the 25364 and the 8000 ports After trying different combinations of the above (for example : no specification of the SSL portâ?¦ ?), the SP 3.0 site still does not work externally.     - Computers Return from the Dead Hi, In my recent Extended Server Usage Report, under the Web Activity by Computer section, I see two computers that are no longer on the domain, (they don't even exist any more!), AND they seem to have 24hr/day web activity. I checked with Manage Computers on the SBS machine (standard version, 2003) and confirmed that these two machines are not on the network.     - Companyweb Missing After SP1 Upgrade I have an account with SBS2003 Premium, ISA installed, but no SQL Server. After their SP1 update, the company web page no longer appears. When you open a web browser, you get an error "Cannot connect to the configuration database" and reference to KB 823287. I followed method 1 from that article. The service MSSQL$SHAREPOINT was not running so I started it. Problem still exists. I followed method 2 and verified that IIS is not running in isolation mode. I tried to follow method 3, and this is where the wheels fell off. Step 1 of the second half of Method 3 say to run the Enterprise Manger for SQL Server.     - Trojan & ADEBOT - Dell Vista SP1 XPS420 infected by ADEBOT... Trend installed but didn't prevent infection. Not to pick on Trend, however, perhaps to alert everyone to this. Where does this crapware come from? Read on... ================================================================= Have a customer who's computer got infected with the following and it was a little nasty to pry it's claws off the computer; I finally located a fix using Google and that seems to have worked. The only thing is, the customer had Trend Micro Internet Security installed and it was up to date and they tell me they weren't surfing on bad sites. they did receive a disc with some pictures on it. Regardless the A/V should have cleaned any crapware. Makes me wonder where the infection came from. Makes me wonder about the usefulness and EFFECTIVENESS of the three year program that they bought along with their Dell. According to the following chart they should have been protected.     - SBS 2003 Transition Pack and Registry Key Removal I'm about to perform a Transition Pack install on my SBS 2003 Premium server. I have read all of the notes and I did verify the pre-tasks. My SBS server registry does have the SmallBusiness key, which I will delete. I do have the SmallBusinessServer key, which I understand is okay. However, I also have a SmallBusinessServer2000 key as this SBS server was upgraded years back from SBS 2000 Premium to SBS 2003 Premium. Is this key okay to leave alone?     - IP Network Translator is missing in Device Manager Hello All, Hopefully I have come to the right area for this question. I have been setting up Small Business Server 2003 R2 (updated to the max). I had some issues with network Communications and an article I came across suggested to disable the IP Network Translator from the Device Manager's non plug and play devices. Since then, have been unable to even see it in the device manager since. Is there a way to re-install the IP Network Translator to device manager? I have compared registries from another 2003 based server and there are references to IpNat.sys, and the file is still on the SBS server in the system32\DRIVERS\ directory.     - SBS 2003 Software Raid Mirror - Replacing higher capacity disks. Hello, we've got a server with two 160GB disks running a Windows-based software RAID mirror across them. The disks are at capacity, and we'd like to replace the drives with two higher capacity units. With previous raid controllers, we were able to break the mirror, install a higher-capacity drive, rebuild the mirror, and repeat for the remaining drive, subsequently adding a new partition. My question is if this will work with the Windows 2003 SBS software RAID or do we need to look at imaging the drive?     - POP3 connector not working SBS2003 Prem Hi POP3 connector not retrieveing mail. I don't know what has changed but this setup was working great prior to this week. i'm receiveing the following error message in event viewer application The error is 10060 (A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. I have tried to telnet mail.domain 110 to see if connectivity to the mail server is there. It timed out. But....... I tried a different telnet.domain2 110 that i also host elsewhere from this server. It succeded. So this tells me firewalls are ok I then tried from a different server the first telnet mail.domain 110. This succeded, so the mail server ok, just to be sure i set up a client and downloaded the mail no probs. I have tried tracert to mail.domain resolves no problem. All i can figure something is wrong with the domain name somewhere. or traffic is not making it back to the server. Ps server is sitting on static ip, dmz.     - DNS to use when ISP's dns is down? So, I got the idea that it would be great to program a third DNS into our firewall so that when our ISP's dns's go down, we can still get to the internet. Does anyone have a recommendation. I guess my main concern is that it will be slow. It would be nice if it were: .open to use (some dns server are blocked if you aren't on the ISP's net) .highly available (few outages) .Good response (no lags in query returns.) I just bought a WatchGuard X Core e-series X550e firewall http://www.watchguard.com/products/compare_results.asp?p1=x550e that has spam-filtering capability http://www.watchguard.com/products/spamblocker.asp and I want to know if it will interfere with ORF or not. Has anyone out there used ORF in conjunction with a firewall that filters spam, preferably a WatchGuard unit? Would it be considered an intermediate host? Thank you!     - SBS 2003 to SBS2003R2 New Hardware Searched through a few threads in here that appear to be related to my issue. Our business recently had to purchase a new Dell server as our old unit running SBS 2003 lease was up and running out of space. The new unit is here with SBS2003 R2 preinstalled. I have found "how to" articles on migrating from SBS2000 to 03 but not from 03 to 03R2 on new hardware. Anyone that could share some recommendations that would be great.     - URL and MAILTO: links not working from non Microsoft Applications Hi, Could someone please help me I've searched high and low for an answer for the problem I've been having since replacing a SBS2003 server within an organisation. Only Difference I can find is that the new server is running SBS2003 R2. Problem is that when a client computer on the domain clicks on either a URL link or Mailto: link from within any third-party application installed on their desktops it doesn't work - nothing happen's, it's like they didn't click the link at all. Applications tested on are MYOB and a Database application However links from within IE and Office do work correctly I've never come accross this before and believe it has something to do with perhaps a new default policy applied with SBS2003 R2 I've ensured the Default Domain Policy has been applied to the server with no changes Clients are on XP SP2 - all latest updates installed Server is SBS2003 R2 SP2 - all latest updates installed I've checked the URL and Mailto: association's on both the server and desktop computers (I've checked this on the server as one of the applications is a server based application/database which has client software... wasn't sure if the Shell Execute code was calling things on the client machine or the server - but after further tests it appears it's local on the client machines...)     - Terminal Services - Virtual Server an Option? I have many clients who could benefit from having a terminal server. However, the cost of an additional server for these small businesses has scared them away. Assuming the SBS box has enough horse power, can I run Virtual Server with Windows Server 2003 on it and Terminal Services to accomodate? Anyone have any experience? Any downsides worth mentioning?     - Users Shared Folder Security Messed Up Hi, I have a client who started messing around with his SBS server. He found the "Users" share and was moving files between users from the server. As a result, many of the doucments and offline cache have the wrong permissions on them. Is there an easy way to reset the permissions for all files back to the perspective user? Also, I've found with Vista clients that clearing out the offline file cache is a bugger sometimes once the permissions of local files are incorrect (i.e. they got sync'd down to the client machine with the wrong permissions).     - Licensing issue Licensing issue I have a Replica Domain Controller in an SBS 2003 R2 Premium domain. I wanted to configure licensing correct, that is in accordance with KB327644. When I tried to set licensing to Per Device or Per User, I got an error message stating that Licensing logging was not running. I there for configured Licensing logging to automatic and started the service. This allowed me to configure Licensing (under Control Panel) to Per Device or Per User. When I thereafter tried to add client access licenses I receive an error as follows form License System: You do not have the appropriate access privileges to complete this operation.     - VPN connectivity issues I have a problem with the connectivity across my VPN connections. Our SBS is an SBS2003 R2 with SP1 and is situated outside our office at a Server Hotel. In order to reach the server we use VPN, OWA, RWW and PDAs. When moving the server to the new site, there seems to be some issues with the connectivity. The server has two NICs: One that is hooked to the Internet connection of the Server Hotel and the other is not connected to anything but is just there in order for the CEICW to accept a "Direct Broadband Connection" into the server. So, I have set up the Server to accept incoming PPTP connections, and I have tried to connect to the file shares on the server. Many services do function across the VPN link such as RWW, OWA, Exchange in Outlook and WSUS. However, file sharing does not work at all. Is there a special port that has to be configured to be opened in the SBS Firewall or that has to be opened in the firewall that is situated outside of the server at the server hotel? This secondary firewall is transparent. I reckon that if the PPTP tunnel has been established - shouldn't this then mean that the server would pass all traffic, including file sharing traffic, through the tunnel and hence not blocking anything? When I try to access the file shares from a Vista machine, I get the message that the network resource is not available. I have tried to activate "Use the standard gateway on the remote network" but with no luck except for that the Internet connection drops from the server. Does anyone have any input to deliver?     - Proxy settings won't hold I manage a small company with SBS 2003 Pro. The proxy settings in the ISA proxy client have to be set on 5 computers everytime the users logon. I can't pinpoint and cause at this time. Four are Vista machines, one is XP. The owner just recently mentioned this, so I don't know if this was a problem a while ago or not.     - router setup query SBS I see the options for setting up the dlink 604T are ppoe/oa, static ip, etc during the wizard and I would like to confirm that setting up this router with 2 nics on sbs2003 and a static ip from bigpond is simply setting up the router like any other (non static IP) adsl account. So as I understand the router gets it's static IP and dns etc automatically. Correct? So when would one use those >choose static IP and complete all the dns feilds etc?     - no OWA Hi, I have upgraded from SBS 2000 to Small business Sever 2003 R1. It seems to have knocked out the OWA functionality of exchange. The main Exchange system is working on the internal network with the Outlook clients but the Outlook Web Access doesnt work internally or externally. I have run the "Connect to the internet" wizard again to make sure OWA and OMA are configured and enabled. All of the users have OMA enabled in their "Exchange features" tab in the users properites. I have played with all of the neccessary settings in the Properties, but i get nothing. When i browse to the OWA directory from a remote web browser (https://servername/exchange or https://ipaddress/exchange ) it displays : Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. If i disable the "Forms base Authenitication" option, in HTTP properties, i can browse to the OWA Exchange directory from the Exchange server web browser (internal) and it logs into the OWA with the Administrator user account. But it doesnt display correctly, it looks like no images or files can be located. here is a print screen of what i get presented with when it logs in. http://www.ringsights.com/exchangeerror.jpg When i view the Default Website in the IIS manager it displays a status message next to the "Exchange" and "Public" virtual directories. This message is "The System cannot find the path specified".     - Strange Outlook Mobile Things Happening I just set up a Windows Mobile 6 phone (via Verizon service so syncing wireless). There are strange things happening with Inbox email and I'm not sure what is causing it. This is running from an SBS 2003 Std R2 server/Exchange 1. The phone will only sync the standard Inbox/Sent Items folders and no others. I have gone into the phone and selected the folders I want to sync but no messages are downloaded to the phone for those folders. Messages are in the folders via Outlook and OWA. 2. The Inbox on the phone (and via Outlook Web) only displays messages for the past 5 days. I haven't been able to verify the full Outlook client yet. I'm not sure what is limiting these messages. Hello all, Really bummed and tired - reviewed the newsgroup thoroughly before running the Transition Pack for our Premium SBS server, although some problems were encountered the server is up and running all applications just fine. The problem - Although I see the new File Service Resource Manager and other non-SBS components - I DO NOT see the DFS Management pieces available as I do in our other 2 W2003 R2 servers.     - Slightly OT: Response Point on SBS Running SBS 2003 Premium with a T1 connection. ============= Our small non-profit is not ahppy with our current phone & voicemail system, and I've been tasked to look into alternatives. I keep coming back to Response Point, based on some blog entries I've read in teh SBS and SMB world. It sems to be pretty good, but there must be some lessons learned out there. Concerns I have are ROI, integration with T1 (I read a review of RP dated Dec 2007 that said it wouldn't integrate well on T1, but SP1 might fix that), who our "carrier" would be, etc. (I've never dealt with VoIP so this is very new to me.) I have just upgraded SQL to 2005 SP2 and installed Report Services, taking
care to ensure the SharePoint site was still available according to MS
guidelines (this is fine).

However when I try to install CRM it requests the existing Report Services
site, which doesn't actually exist - If I look at Default Web Site I can see
virtual directoryes - ReportServer$Sharepoint and ReportServer$CRM - am I
supposed to use one of these?

Need to ensure that SQL 2005 Report Services is install properly.

Check by opening IE and URL: http:\\yourSBSserver\reports or
http:\\yourSBSserver\reportserver

That is the default path that you supply to CRM 4.0 Server install on
SBS2003 R2.
