Hi, All:

I've been approached by Management with regard to "tracking" a given
employee's Internet usage at work. I know that ISA has some general Internet
Usage logs, but I'm looking to "follow" someone around and record the data.
Any thoughts, ideas, places to look? If it can be avoided, I'd rather not
use third-party software.

ISA allows you to query the logs it keeps. You could, for example open
the ISA Console and select Monitoring. Then edit the filter with the
criteria you want, i.e., either his IP address or some other identifying
field. Monitoring has a surprising number of fields from which to
build filters. Remember that by default, you will get only 1000 records
at a time so make good use of the filters or your results may be larger
than is valuable to you.

Anyway, once you are getting the output you want you can copy to a
clipboard and build your own reports.

There are other ways to do it, but this way is quick, especially if you
want to see historical data and requires no third party tools to pull
the data.

In these scenarios make sure you have some form of written disclaimer If i.e
emails and internet access monitored. If wish to enforce findings may have
an industrial tribunal.

Teneo:

Thank you for your input. I would appreciate clarification, as I'm not
quite sure what you're suggesting.

Some companies have their employees sign a terms-of-use release that
essentially declares everything company property, and that their
Internet activities can be monitored.

But, if you look around, you will find the legal privacy stuff favors
the employer here anyway, or is ambiguous at best. Now here's *my*
disclaimer: Ask a lawyer if you don't already have language in an
employee handbook and you want to be sure.
