Hi

I need to Upgrade from SBS 2003 R2 pri. edition to Win2003 std edition, with
SQL and Exchange on diffrent s

Is it possible without creating a new domain?

I tried in test area to install sbs 2003 and add a new win2003 server. I run
dcpromo to the 2003 server new dc in the same domain.

I moved the ROLES with ntdsutil to the new dc. and then after moving the
mailboxes and uninstall exchange I run the dcpromo on the sbs server. the
system is up for 1 week.

Is it OK? Does microsoft support that kind of solution?

Than'x
Shay

You want to Move off of SBS onto Win2003?
That's not an Upgrade sounds more like a Transition?

If you are running out of licenses on the SBS Limit >75
you will need a transition pack.

This transition pack will allow you to keep your licenses and transfer them
over.

If you just want to move Services OVER you can not separate the parts of SBS
(Without the Transition Pack)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/techinfo/planning/transition.mspx

If a Transition is not what you are talking about and you want to keep the
SBS
Remember the SBS must hold all FSMO rolls in a domain
The other server can Be a MEMBER server but not the Domain Controller.

Does that help?

no, you don't need to keep the original server when you use the Transition
Pack. You're unlocked at that point. But whatever. Just understand that SBS
can no longer be on the network once you move the FSMO roles.
