We have SBS2003. Have a user who wants to print to his home printer, and
USB/DOT4 OfficeJet multifunction device, when connected over RWW. When he
connects the printer is not on the list. I have researched methods to enable
his officeJet printer to appear when using RWW, but am wondering if someone
here can provide me the defacto method.

Please advise.

He could try loading the Device drivers on his work PC for his home printer
But there are issues with that.

1. Most mutli function drivers to be installed require the device Locally
attached to that pc
2. Multi function printers don't often work with RWW because of their heavy
use of local PC software.

If you can get the Multifunction printer installed on the PC at work
and it still doesn't work.

You can try to redirect the port from a DOT4 to a LPT port
(Info on this here
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Misc/Q_21460318.html)

HOWEVER!
I personally recommend a low-cost Laser printer for that person.
(No muliti function just a plain laser printer)
He can load just the print drivers on the pc at work and then it will work
remotely.

The cost of laser printer is low and the cost per print page is lower than
InkJet.
And remote printing should work fine.
and I love the personal Laser printers work great and low cost printing.

Sorry this issue is not a Limit of RWW but more of how Multifunction
printers operate.
I hope this helps.

Hi jdc:

afaik, there are only two ways that will work. one is to attach the printer
to the server and install the !printer driver only! Depending on the model,
you may be able to install the !printer driver only! without attaching the
device. Once it works locally, it should then work remotely.
Unfortunately, you have to haul the printer back and forth.

The other way is with one of the third party or universal printer drivers.
One of the third party one is called "Thin Print".
