    - DNS Configuration Question. We have recently moved our internal web site to an external host. Computers on other external networks can access out new website just fine. However, our server and client machines canâ??t navigate to the new site. Can anyone give me some pointers on what to add to the forward and reverse lookup zones within DNS to allow our internal machines the ability to connect to our new externally hosted website?     - What limits number of remote VPN connections on SBS 2003? Please clarify what may be my problem. What limits (if anything) the number of remote VPN conenctions to an SBS 2003 server? The router is VPN pass through and it seems that only one or two people can connect remotely with VPN. There are 15 CALS on the server and there were only about ten people logged into the domain locally. Is there a way to increase the number of allowed remote VPN connections?     - HP DAT72 Tape Drive and DDS Greetings, The "Media care" portion of the manual on this USB tape drive says that verify can be turned off because DDS verification takes place during the backup. But the SBS backup Wizard does not allow verify to be turned off. I know I can exclude the v switch by just scheduling a NTBackup, but then I loose out on the e-mail notification of successful backup withour adding some other monitoring software. I wouldn;t do this lightly. The more verification the better. But I have one client who's servers are busy doing something all night long, and if I can cut the time down in half, plus save on tape wear, I might consider it. Any way to disable verify??     - Site design confirmation First time I have done a site-to-site type setup before and we are having some DNS issues that I would like to bounce off someone. This may be to much to cover in this posting but here goes. SBS site is on 192.168.15.x network. Win2K3 2nd site is 10.100.0.x network tied together with Netgear firewalls Setup 2nd site in AD and replicates with no problems - works well. DNS at 2nd site forwards to SBS site - this is where I am wondering if I am not setup correctly.... Multiple times a day we intermittently loose DNS - can ping remote site by IP but not by name - vpn tunnel is still operational - cannot get to Internet by name. I know this was broad information but hopefully that can help get us started.     - Server/Network setup question I have a windows 2003 SBS w/ 2 net cards. My internet connection is via a DSL wireless modem/router combined. Currently, the one ethernet port on modem/router runs into a hub which provides connectivity for the clients on the LAN. Wireless also works.     - Transfer of Raid 5 array to new server We have an SBS 2000 Server with a Raid 5 array with 3 drives and 1 hot spare drive. The old server is an IBM x235. New server is x236. Can we simply pull the SCSI Controller and 4 drives out of the old server and place them in the new server and expect to be good or is the OS tied to a chipset on the old motherboard or BIOS somehow?     - Additional Domain Controller + DNS Server Hi All, Primarily for reasons of redundancy we wish to add a second Windows Server 2003 to an existing SBS 2003 Server network. We would like this to be an additional Domain Controller and also act as a backup DNS server should the SBS 20003 Server need to be offline for any reason. We have a mission critical third party database which sits on Sybase which can easily be switched from one server to the other. But as we have recently found out client PC's practically don't function properly at all when the SBS 2003 Server is offline. Obviously the SBS 2003 is the logon server and also supplies DNS and DHCP. If this isn't available then the client PC's won't be able to get at the database even though we have moved it onto the other server, ie no Logon, DNS or DHCP etc etc. So.. We have promoted the other Windows Server 2003 to be an additional Domain Controller in the existing Domain, straighforward enough. Have then made this server a Global Catalogue Server in order to service logons. Then installed DNS on the Windows Server 2003 and setup as AD intergrated and setup both servers in Forward Lookup Zones and allowed Zone Transfers etc etc.. Question: What would you enter on the DNS or the SBS 2003 server's 'Server Local Area Connection' ? Do you just leave the existing 192.168.16.2 on its own or do you add the IP of the other Windows Server 2003 as the Alternate DNS server ? Likewise what would you enter on the DNS of the 'Local Area Connection' on the Windows Server 2003 ? All seems to work OK at the moment. I've shut down the SBS 2003 server and client PC's can still logon and access shares from the other Windows Server 2003, which they could not do beforehand ( well actually I lied a touch, I had to setup static IP on the test client, more on that one in a moment..) So far so good...but yes, what about DHCP ? When the client PC's boot up they can't find the DHCP server so then they go to AutoIPConfiguration..not much good at all.. So options here as I see them are: Either go to static IP for all the clients. Or setup a backup DHCP on the Windows Server 2003, set this to disabled and then only start this in the event of the SBS2003 server being unavailable.. Or allow the client PC's to retain there IP lease by using the ' IPAutoconfigurationEnabled' registry key and set it to disabled thereby allowing the PC to continue to use its leased address even thought he DHCP isn't available.. Anyone any thoughts on this ? There are a few scenarios whereby we can forsee that we may need to run the database from the backup server without the SBS 2003 available, not least because of firmware upgrades to various pieces of hardware on the SBS 2003 Server, this has bitten us in the past and we have lost the main server for some time without being able to function at all. So we just need to ensure that we can have the database available at all times in the event or essential maintenence being required on the SBS 2003 Server.     - SBS 2003 C: drive creeping disk space consumption I have a client that is using SBS 2003 with SP1. The OS came pre-installed from Dell with only 12 GB on the C: drive. To gain some room on the C: drive, I've moved the Client Apps folder, several Exchange Server files, and the paging file to other drives on the machine. In the daily server reports, I'm noticing that the C: drive is slowing losing free space at the rate of about 2 MB per day. I'm suspicious that a component of the OS is writing to a log file or something like that. The C: drive was losing free space before the relocation of the files mentioned before, so the act of relocating them probably isn't the cause.     - Etrust Antivirus on SBS2003 Std Hi everyone, I have an SBS 2003 Std installation and I installed Computer Associates Etrust Anti-Virus 7.1. I have not been able to get a successful download of the AV signature updates from their FTP site on the SBS machine. The errors are as follows from the AV log AV distribution program started the download process. Configuration file: C:\WINNT\TEMP\33b25F.tmp --- Attempting to download from host number 1 - FTP_0 --- The connection method selected is FTP AV Distribution is loading the configuration data. Downloading from FTP site ftpav.ca.com. User name for FTP logon: anonymous. No Proxy Server Specified. Using Download Path (/pub/inoculan/scaneng/) Opening the connection. Connecting to the Internet. Setting connection timeout to 60 seconds Log on to the connection. Connecting to the FTP Server (ftpav.ca.com). Download directory: C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\ScanEngine\ Incoming. Downloading the list of signature files. Error downloading file /pub/inoculan/scaneng/Siglist2.txt The request has timed out. Internet error message 200 Type okay.. Internet error message 200 Type okay.. Error downloading file /pub/inoculan/scaneng/Siglist.txt The connection with the server has been reset. Internet error message . Finished download process unsuccessfully. I have other SBS installations that are similar to this one and I have no problem downloading the signatures....     - SBS and external mail server Hi, I've had some problems with my SBS2003 server that the nice folks on this group and Microsoft have helped me solve... but it seems that now the exchange portion of the server is ok, but that things are still amiss from how I want the server to work. I need to ensure that all SMTP mail from the server is sent out to our 3rd party mail server (eg, mail.somedomain.com). I've set the SMTP connector to forward email to mail.somedomain.com, but if I set the users accounts email addresses to joe@somedomain.com, then the SBS server puts the email into that users SBS inbox, rather than forwarding it on. I tried using a made-up domain of somedomain.local, but when I do that, then the Global Address Book lists that user as somedomain.local, and the outlook clients still use that address, and the email still goes to the inbox. The complication is that not all users of the domain use the SBS server, choosing to download mail themselves from mail.somedomain.com If the email is stored in the SBS server, then those users never see it. My current solution, is that for each user who doesn't use the SBS server, I change their account to use @somedomain.local, and then hide them from the GAB, this way client machines can't see the .local address, and the server forwards the email on.     - join to sbs domain?? this company manager tells me he installed office onto each client. I'm wondering if this will cause problems because I assume they did not join the client using connectcomputer. But Outlook is working with the exchange component. Second issue is, I have reinstalled xp on a client and during the installation I selected "join to a domain", then I recreated the username as a profile and seem to be connecting to the server ok. Should I un-join the domain, join a workgroup, then use the add a client and connectcomputer methods? Or am I doing the same thing through the install process mentioned above? The only thing is that the computer name is now different from what it was before and does not have the name.local name, even though it does seem to be connecting to the 3rd party mail program and the exchange on the server. the name of this pc is simply "reception".     - SBS2003 problem Dear all, I need your urgent help! I have one SBS 2003 down. I have re-installed the exchange server and re-connect some of the users to the SBS2003. 1) Some of the computer could not connect to the server. I removed the original computer in exchange server and then make use of the web wizard to re-connect the computer to the exchange server. It is success. However, when it connected to the exchange server, the user profile of the local computer changed. I would like to know if there is a way to restore back the original user profile and installed program. 2) In the exchange server, I have the old mailbox store files and public folder store files. I have tried to use the dismount and then mount the mailbox and public folder files. It could be mounted. However, I find the user mailboxes with a red cross besides them. When I tried to reconnect the mailboxes back to specific users. I got the following error , error message example: " An object (user or other object) with the following name cannot be found: "Terrence Tsang". Check the selected object types and locations for accuracy and ensure that you have typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from the selection " However, this user could be viewed in the Active Directory.     - Help with SBS 2003 SP 1 Installation Hello, I really need some help with my SBS server. This is hopefully my final vers ion of SBS configuration before actually deploying it. I was trying to install SBS SP 1 and I keep getting this error during the in stallation. This is my 5th time reinstalling SBS for testing and preparatio n for SBS deployment on my network and so I have seen the success and failur e during SBS installation. I realize that I want to configure the default " User Shared Folders" to a different drive which have more disk space. While I don't have problems with the updates the first 3 SBS install since I left everything on the C:\. On the 4th and 5th tries Ive decided to findtune wh ere I want things to be and that's when I have the problem installing SBS SP 1. During the SBS installation, I have decided to change the path of the Us er Shared Folder to E drive. When I followed the step-by-step procedures to install SBS SP 1, this is the error I am getting. "Windows Small Business Service Pack 1 Setup has encountered an error. For m ore information, review the most recent entry in the Setup error log in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business 2003\logs\setu p.log. The correct the error and run Service Pack 1 Setup again. Do you want to view the error now." When I click yes, the setup log have one entry indi cating that the Component Name: server tools..An error occurred while the server was being reconfigured. Rerun setup. I've tried disabling Trend micros Scan Mail; emptied all the temp files but that did not work. One guy told me on MS newsgroup told me to try disabling all antivirus, then go to add remove programs and find "Windows Small Busin ess Server 2003" and click change/remove. When you get to the Component Sele ction Window, expand Server Tools and choose Maintenance in the Action field , and choose Reinstall in Administration.     - Header missing from NDR I am receiving NDR messages from my exchange server (SBS2k3) but I cannot see the internet header information in the NDR email. If I understand things correctly if a internal client relays or send a email via mapi and it is bounced back a NDR will be sent with out the internet header. How can I trace / log emails going thru the exchange server. I am guessing that if it is a relay off the SMTP server (IIS) it will be in the IIS logs. What about the exchange server?     - If I restrict logins to specific computers, then cannot connect to RWW or Sharepoint I have a couple of users that I want to restrict to only login certain workstations on the local LAN. But I would still like these users to be able to access RWW, SharePoint and Connect to my Computer. Problem is, when I modify the properties on these users to restrict login to just their workstation, they cannot login to RWW. If I add the server computer to the list of allowed computers, then the login to RWW works, OWA and connect to their computer works, but trying to connect to the internal company web site fails with an Internal Server 500 failure.     - Problem opening/sending email in with OWA on SBS 2003 I am running SBS 2003 and trying to access email through Remote Web Workplace using Outlook Web Access. A have no trouble logging in and seeing my inbox, and no problem switching between mail, calendar, etc., but when I attempt to open an email or click to create a new email, I receive an internet explorer script error the first time during that session. Subsequently it just says "error on page at the bottom." I am running IE 6.0 and have tried from several other computers and receive the same message. Thanks for any help.     - Firewall Client 2004 Hi, I have a SBS 2003 SP1 with ISA 2004. I also have 4 Windows 2003 SP 1 member servers. I was going over the event logs on my member servers and I see the following error in all of them: Source: Microsoft Firewall Client 2004 Event: 1 Description: Application [svchost.exe] authentication failed.     - Weird ntbackup problem, Status = failed, log shows otherwise The Servermanagement->Backup status shows every backup as Failed. However when I look at the log everything looks like it completes and verifies with NO errors except at the end of the log it says "NTBackup finished the backup with errors."     - How can I run exchange just for shared calendar and admin email? Hi, I use outlook client direct to our ISP for POP3 email and this works very well for laptops... no change in settings for work or home and don't need to access work SBS server. [SBS POP3 connector worked OK, however I found it simpler to have direct ISP mail collection] However I would love to run shared calendars and be able to pick up SBS alerts when at work.     - How do I move an SBS 2003 server to a larger drive? I have a client with an SBS 2003 server (which I didn't setup) that has a full C: partition. The server has a 30 gig mirrored drive with 2 partitions. I want to add a mirrored 73 gig drives and move the C: partition to that. What cloning software can you recommend for moving a server boot partition to a larger drive? I've used Drive IMage Pro on XP machines, but it doesn't support servers.     - SBS2003 Terminal Services Client on Smartphone w/windows CE 5.0 I have an internet enabled telephone and have no problems accessing MSN options.     - SBS SP 1 installation error Hi, I keep getting this error message when I was trying to install the SBS SP 1. "Windows Small Business Service Pack 1 Setup has encountered an error. For more information, review the most recent entry in the Setup error log in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business 2003\logs\setup.log. The correct the error and run Service Pack 1 Setup again. Do you want to view the error now." When I click yes, I the setup log have one entry indicating that the Component Name: server tools....An error occured while the server was being reconfigured. Rerun setup. Which CDs of the SBS to would I have to use to rerun setup? I've try disable Trendmicros Scan Mail and install the SBS SP1 but that did not work.     - IE 6 proxy settings I have an issue with IE 6 on my SBS2003 domain, when trying to access a specialty web server (Xerox Flowport Server) on a Windows 2000 server on my local domain I get an authentication error because the login is passing through the proxy server. I have bypass proxy for local computers set on all of my domain computers but with the exception of the SBS box and an old win95 machine with IE5 installed none of the computers are actually bypassing the proxy for my local server. If I add an exception for the server in IE 6 the connection to the flowport server works because IE6 actually bypasses the proxy. However as soon as I close IE 6 and reopen it, the exception for the server has been removed and it does not work until I add the exception again. I have checked the Group policies on the SBS Box and the local policies on the computers and cannot find anything that would be resetting the proxy exceptions.     - Exchange & Sharepoint Issues. Errors 9153, 9662, 9154, 2114, 8026 I have an occasional client with SBS 2003. Issue 1. The Exchange Server has been hanging once per day for several weeks. The client see a "Connecting to 'Server-Name'" message in outlook 2003, and had been rebooting the server to resolve this (15 min). The only non-SBS software on the server is PopBeamer, and Trend Client Server Messaging Suite. The Server is both the DNS and DHCP server for the network. On first being called in, I installed SBS2003 SP1. (All but Exchange, which was at SP2, and SharePoint SP2 - which reported that it was allready installed.) Needless to say, the problem remains. This morning I was on site, and found that bouncing the Exchange Attendant (& Information Store) temporarily resolves the issue. Error messages that occurred immediately preceding this problem are: Source Event ID MSExchangeAL 8026 MSExchangeDSAccess 2012 MSExchangeDSAccess 2114 MSExchangeSA 9154 (x4) MSExchangeIS 9662 MSExchangeSA 9153 (x2) Server/Network Details: This server is an Intel Server Board (7210TP1-E) and case. P4 2.8GHz 1GB Memory 2 mirrored 80GB SATA drives -SMART status on the drives is Healthy The server is connected to a new Netgear Gigabit per port switch. *I suspect that the server is having difficulty in enumeration of the network, which is strange considering it is on it's own subnet, with only 3-5 clients for company.* Essentially, this server is never under load. *All of the updates as of 4/7/06 have been installed. (from Microsoft Update).* On a different note: Issue 2: The SharePoint portal is no longer available. It returns a message about ASP2 configuration errors and refers to KB 894903. This article states that the STSADM.exe tool should be run. However, the tool is not available from the command line on the server. I have tried reinstalling SP2 for SharePoint Services, however it states that it is already installed. Any help in resolving this will be appreciated. PS: NT backup also seems to have disappeared from the Admin Tools Menu, although it is available from command line. (Since The Backups are now verified as running, this is a minor annoyance.)     - RWW and open ports I've installed SBS 2k3 several times however; I have a different problem related to many previous posts on this board. Summary: Port 443 is open on firewall - OWA and RWW is available from the internet Port 25 is open on firewall - Exchange is sending/receiving e-mail Port 4125 is open on the firewall - RWW is accessible through the internet From the internet, I connect to RWW and log in. When I try to connect to servers or workstations, I get a web page error (Bottom-left of Web page) I can successfully connect to servers and workstations on the LAN through RDP (Port 3389) and through RWW.     - Sharepoint or database corrupt Ok I was trying to move sites from one server to another and things went well during testing but now I've got all types of Sharepoint problems it seems so I'd like to basically wipe Sharepoint an anything concerning all the sites from SBS and start from scratch without a full reinstall of SBS. Can I just remove Sharepoint or do I also need to remove SQL or at least all SQL databases and also the monitoring compenent or what? Basically I am in a loop with several sites saying they have FP 02 extensions on them which doesn't match STS so it won't extend the site for Sharepoint to manage but if I delete and start over with that site it comes back and says the same thing again even though it's a new site so I assume some reference to it is hanging around in Sharepoint or IIS no matter how I clean it and iisreset. Need to send e-mail through Exchange to all internet e-mail addresses and not get them bounced because the receiving e-mail server did a spam check on the internet address to verify the smtp server B. Need to receive e-mail into the Outlook/Exchange e-mail folder whether through a POP connector or through SMTP/Exchange C. Need to have a routable domain name (for example a valid A record or common name for the SBS) I need this for multiple reasons -- I use Managed Workplace and would rather avoid IP numbers for certain staff reasons, I have users who would like to connect to RWW, OWA, OMA and would rather not use an IP, and I want to avoid the "invalid certificate" problem of OMA and Exchange SP2 with Windows Mobile 5.0 devices -- i.e. I'd like to get a valid SSL certificate for the SBS server I've thought about doing a couple different things: 1. new domain name with it's own MX record tied to the IP address used by the Exchange server. e.g. MX for somecompany.com points to www.xxx.yyy.zzz and the domain is named somecompany.local 2. new domain name with it's own MX record tied to the IP address used by the Exchange server. e.g. MX for somecompany.info points to www.xxx.yyy.zzz and A record for somecompany.com points to www.xxx.yyy.zzz and domain is named somecompany.com 3. old domain name with an MX record pointing to an ISP mail server used by the Exchange server. e.g. MX and A record for somecompany.com points to www.xxx.yyy.zzz (not the SBS server) and domain is named somecompany.com and SBS server exists at aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd Microsoft recommends using somecompany.local instead of somecompany.com when somecompany.com is mapped to another internet server. What are other people doing to set up SBS networks that will work with Windows Mobile 5.0 devices (without the contortion of the certificate tools) and that are able to send/receive e-mails through a valid routable e-mail domain using SMTP/Exchange?     - Printer Sessions on sbs2003 server Hello all, I have a SBS2003 prim server with 9 printers installed (attached thru IP ports) they are shared and listed in AD. works well and I have no issues for the most part. Now whne I look in the printers menu on the server I see HP4050 on svr1 (from ws4) in session 2 .. this is coming from only 1 work station all the time, some times its session 1 then session 2 etc. In event log I see warnings about session 1 printer such and auch is deleted.. The work station in question is actually my work station. I do remote access the server from here, could that be the cause? I have no printing issues, and everything works fine. yes we need 9 printers. and there will be more in the future.lol. we are nothing but tree killers, and i cant seem to get away from it.     - Low Disk Space alerts Greetings, I have a new SBS2003 set up and am using external USB drives for backups. I have been getting alerts of Low Disk Space on Harddisk(X) (pick a number - it seems to increment each time). After troubleshooting and not finding this disk number referenced anywhere else, I finally found that it is time-wise related to when the disk gets switched out with the alternate drive for backups. These drives are no where near the low disk space threshhold. The user who is switching the disks is not using the 'unplug or eject hardware' utility to stop the disk prior to removal, and I suspect this may be related, but I'd rather they didn't log in to the server at all to perform the switch. We've been having some network performance issues and to test some timings we'd like to turn-off the firewall on one of our user workstations network connections.     - Services 'forget' login credentials I have a SBS domain with other member servers. When the servers reboot any service that uses a Domain Login account has to be started manually. For example... I have a Blackberry Enterprise Server that uses Domain Account login credentials. When I try to start any of the services I get a login failure. If I open one of the services and re-type the password that service and all the other ones will start just fine. It's like the group of services that use that account need to reconnect to the domain.     - Help! Repairing a RAID 1 dynamic disk I've got a production system here that I've inherited and need a little advice - and my boss is riding my ass for an update asap. Its a Dell Windows 2000 server with two SCSI hard drives running off the m/b's on-board SCSI controller. The controller is not a raid controller, just a U320 scsi. The two drives are configured with dynamic disk and software RAID 1 mirroring. There are two partitions on the hard drive system - C:OS and D:data. When I browse the hard drives using the MS disk management utility, I see not one hard drive, but two. And each hard drive shows the C and D partitions. So here's the problem: The disk 0's C:OS partition is no longer synced to the disk 1's C:OS partition. The D:data mirrored partition shows as the RAID mirroring as ok. I have rebooted the box and used the on-board SCSI utility to verify the disk that claims to have failed with a read/write test that has found no defects. I'm thinking (guessing) there is no real problem with this partition and that it just needs to be re-synced. So how do I do this, safely, without hosing the box? ---- Traditionally, I've use hardware SCSI RAID controllers to provide the RAID safety. I've never worked with MS's dynamic disks and their software RAID, so I'm really worried about trashing the OS. My assumption is that I would try a re-sync on the C:OS partition and see if the box can repair itself for now. If the re-sync come back with the same error and we are again operating the OS on just one hard drive, then I'd need to come up with a better solution, soon. In situations like this in the past, I'd hookup a spare drive and snap a Ghost image of the server for safety. I have access to and am pretty familiar with Ghost Corporate edition 7.5, but I think it's not compatible with dynamic disks ?? --- Could anyone having experience with this situation / MS dynamic disk RAID please offer some tips here? I just need to know the sequence I should use to try to get the software RAID to repair itself, for now. Please repsond to this group - any tips or suggestions would be really welcome! Thanks Alan. Have SBS 2003 SP1 running Exchange. Using XP Pro remote client to attach
using RWW. I believe ICW settings are correct but am not sure how to setup
Outlook on local (remote client) system so I can view Outlook folders when
I'm not attached using RWW.

Any help or KB articles would be appreciated.

What you really want is technically called "RPC over HTTP," which lets you
use Outlook 2003 on your (remote) WinXP computer to access your Exchange
mailbox over the Internet, and sync to an offline file therein.

You can see more info about it on your main RWW page after you log in....see
the bit about "Configure Outlook via the Internet" ? Click &
read....remember, your XP box has to have SP1 at least (although you should
definitely be using SP2).

You will need to make sure that in the CEICW you a) allowed Outlook
connections of this type b) set up a SSL cert if you don't have a 'real' one
and that you also c) allowed port 443 inbound to the SBS box through your
firewall or ISA or whatever.
