Hi all,

As I have stated before I use GoDaddy to host my web site
(www.damexpress.net). When I use RWW I use my static IP address (provided by
Verizon) to connect to my workplace server and computers.

All of my mail is hosted at GoDaddy. And the users use GoDaddy's web based
interface to send and receive mail.

What I want to do is: (I know I have been over this before in this NG but
sometimes things don't sink in!!!)

1. I think that I may want to use Outlook 2003 but I don't see that in
SBS2003 programs. I am not sure that using Outlook has any advantages over
the current web base e-mail???

2. If there are overwhelming advantages to using Outlook then are there any
step by step guides to follow to make this happen. I know that it involves
changing MX records and an A record but all of this is may not be necessary
if I am not going to change the way users get mail.

This NG has been absolutely great. I have been helped with:

Roaming Profiles (works great now)

Folder Redirection (works great but found out I really don't need it because
all users have to access the same files, so I just shared them on a separate
drive.

RWW (works great but I can only access the computers in the network, nothing
else works because RWW says I don't have things installed or configured but
more on that to come :)

Still haven't got VPN to work and I would like to get it to work even if I
don't use it. I can download the connection manager from RWW but VPN just
won't work.

Thanks to all who have helped.

It's a different way to do things. By choice, I use Icedove/Thunderbird
on IMAP, but Outlook is not too bad if you need MAPI facilities. It's
mostly a matter of confidence, as to who is in charge of 'your' email.

If all goes well, there is not too much difference. When there are
problems with email, if you do not host it yourself, then you rely on
the employees of your mail host to sort things out. Some companies are
better than others. Don't expect any help from large ISPs, who are more
concerned with separating teenagers from money.

Sorry? That's what RWW is for. What else do you expect to do? OWA is
easier direct.

The most basic form of VPN, PPTP, Just Works (TM).

-Ask for it in the RRAS Wizard, and give it either a working FQDN or the
public IP address. This is what the Connection Manager will use.

-Forward TCP port 1723 to SBS

-Forward IP protocol 47 (*not* TCP or UDP port 47) to SBS

- or alternatively, many routers offer 'PPTP passthrough' or 'PPTP
service' or 'Application Level Gateway for PPTP' along with TCP/1723.
Many routers do not offer web access to the firewall code where IP
protocols can be specified.

-Place the intended users in the Mobile Users security group.

Either use the Connection Manager, or use a manual connection from a
default installation of XP to a default installation of SBS. There are a
number of configurations which can be changed from default, which will
make connection difficult unless the Manager is used. There is an
unbelievably large number of ways to stop VPN from working properly if
someone messes with the SBS default settings. Authentication,
encryption, DHCP addresses and firewalling are all configurable and can
cause trouble.

There are various utilities which can be used to troubleshoot PPTP VPN,
but if you expect to administer networked computers, you should learn to
use a logging program such as Wireshark or Microsoft's Network Monitor.
For PPTP VPN, look for a TCP/IP handshake on port 1723, followed by GRE
(protocol 47) packets. Error messages from the client would be useful in
troubleshooting. Oh, yes, VPN is an IP routed protocol, unlike the web
services, so the SBS LAN network address must be different from the
network addresses of any network interfaces in the client. That's
probably the number two VPN killer, after router configuration.
