I did this few years ago with a utility called RENDOM. It worked on
the first shot following the exact instructions to the byte.
Google for RENDOM, or using RENDOM, you should get quite a few results.

Hi - this is a group for SBS2003 - not the right group for your question.
Try posting in microsoft.public.windows.server.general - but I suspect you
will need to start fresh.

RENDOM is not for the faint of heart, and you can't do a domain rename on a
server running Exchange. As I suspect he is not using SBS2003, it's best for
him to post in a group where the enterprise gurus hang out.....

And are you using SBS2003? If you are, you're in an unsupported config and
you will need to reinstall from scratch, following all the wizards and the
to-do list.

If not, please post in the groups I mentioned - and note that you can't use
RENDOM on a server running Exchange.

Additionally, if you're the same person who posted the original message,
don't reply using different addresses/names, as it will confuse people.

I have seen a single level domain before. It worked but it has been a
few years so I do not recall the details. So what exactly are you
having a hard time with on your SBS server?

They're known to be problematic in AD. Huge DNS problems.

The guy hasn't said he has SBS despite my asking...and I doubt he does. If
he does, he would have had to go very far out of his way to set it up with a
single-label domain (the wizards won't let you, AFAIK) it's unlikely that
the rest of it is in good working order. You usually see single-label
domains in networks that were upgraded from NT4x domains.

It took me a while to recall where I saw that single level domain. It
was at an account I had for a few months before they hired a full time
IT guy. The previous guy did a lot of goofy things and it was not a
SBS network. The new IT guy renamed the domain to a "proper" second
level domain after a few months on the job. The new IT guy definitely
knows his way. Good thing as that account loved its porn.
